Looking to pick up a USB Hub and was wondering if I connect it to the USB port on the right side (not the USB/eSATA port), will it be powered?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought Sony FW490 with full hd screen (1920x1080) but after hearing so much about wonderful RGB LED display on Dell, I got one from Dell outlet and now I can compare them both side by side and send one back. To my surprise Sony's screen is a tad brighter,
white color is white and red is very accurate too, on Dell screen is dimmer (on full brightness) red is more brownish and white is yellow-greenish.
I was reading this forum for a few months and almost everybody says that RGB screen is very bright, that one can use it on half brightness, but that is not the case with my SXPS16.
I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.
I have a studio 1537 with the Ati graphics.
The problem i have is when i power on the laptop i get a warning saying Hit F1 Critical battery warning .
So i hit F1. Then get the option to hit F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup as battery cannot be identified.
So i hit F2 so in the bios i see not battery and it says NO charger detected.
Now my problem is the battery is totally flat if i pull the PSU the system dies . I have changes the power jack as i read the could give trouble.
What I could do next as other than this my machine is perfect. Just a note i also have two spare batterys one 6 cell and one 9 cell and still neither charge
I’ve got a Del Studio 1753 laptop and I use it with a separate LG flatron w2486L screen. The cable recently came out of the VGA port and when I plugged it back in there is now a black strip at each side of the screen and the image doesn’t go across the full width any more. In display settings I’ve got the monitor set at the highest resolution possible, 1440x900, but this makes no difference (I’m on Windows 7).

View 9 Replies View RelatedOur Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit. When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work. When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports. When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).
I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers. How do I get these working?
I just received my brand new XPS 13 yesterday and followed the quick start instructions. Plugged it in and pressed on the power button. As soon as the power came on, the fan started blowing and is so loud I cant believe this is normal. I decided to convert from my MacBook, so I'm new to Dell... is this normal? It's so loud, I can't ignore it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received my E6410 a few days ago and was quite dismayed to find out that I cannot charge peripherals on the powered USB port when the latop is off/hybernated/stand-by *and* the power cable is plugged in. The specs say that the latop has a powered USB port (the one above the e-sata port), and I had assumed that powered USB was the same as always-on. Is that not the case?
I checked a colleagues E6400 today and noticed that the same USB port has a lightning symbol, but that symbol is not on the E6410. The E6400 BIOS also has a setting for "USB PowerShare" which selects whether or not USB charging can be done when the computer is off or hybernated. No such setting in the E6410 BIOS..... Did Dell remove that feature in the E6410?
The Dell D830 comes equipped with one powered USB port at the rear.
The powered USB port is compatible with USB 2.0 connector. When used with a powered USB connector that looks like a bloated RJ45, powered USB port can supply 5V (beige), 12V (blue), or 24V (red)..
They are color-coded and connectors are keyed to distinguish between them..
I've got a relatively new XPS 13. I noticed that I seem to lose battery charge even when I'm completely powered off -- about 10-15% overnight. Is this common or is something draining the battery that shouldn't?

The manual that comes with the SXPS says some devices won't charge and some will.
I recently came across something regarding the right USB port of my M1530 (the port right below the Slot-Loading Optical Drive and next to S-Video).
The two ports on the left were full (one 160GB External HD and a Logitech V450 Mouse Receiver). When I plugged my other 80GB external hard disk to the right USB port, a pop-up box said that I should plug it into a "high-powered USB port" to maximize its performance or something.
Sure enough, when I was transferring big folders of music files, the transfer rate was very slow. So I plugged the external hard disk to one of the ports on the left, and the speed was back to normal
I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.
I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.
I have an XPS M1530 which just had its motherboard replaced. I've now noticed that the underside of the laptop directly under the touchpad gets very hot. Its far hotter than any other area of the laptop even on load!
Its a new mobo and not a refurb. After using for half an hour it becomes quite uncomfortable on my lap. I initially thought it might be the WLAN card but ive switched it off and used ethernet instead. The problem persists. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their systems?
My Inspiron 15R SE which I purchased from Dell Canada in February 2013 recently acted up on me. It was just like any other day, I run the laptop battery down, then plug in the power adapter when its low.
This time however, the laptop just suddenly shutdown (not through Windows, like just up and died). I tried to power it up again and each time, barely 30 seconds after it powers up, it just up and dies.
I had to do work on it so I thought I let it sit for awhile to charge the battery, thinking that I can run it on battery at least. But alas I left it there for even a whole night and the battery did not even charge a drop.
I then tried removing the battery and only running on power adapter only but it won't even start. I have also tried another power adapter but the same issue persists so I can safely rule out the power adapter.
The power port doesn't look damaged either seeing as I have always loyally bought Dell throughout the years, and I really need to get work done (it is my primary computer).

Just last week I got nice E6400. Since the first day of possession I observing that right side rest pad (on DVD drive side) getting quite hot, where you start feeling good amount of heat while typing.

Mouse is now recognized by side USB port, but I like to keep them free for bulky flash drives..I tried uninstalling all ports/refresh from Device Manager, but rear port is still dead to all USB devices.I then tried a repair install from desktop, but still dead (1st time HD light flashed for 1sec, then nothing from then on).
I have a Dell Inspiron 5521 that is about a year and a half old. In the last two weeks, it's begun to make a beeping noise and will not boot up. As far as I can tell, there's no pattern or end to the beeps -- it's just one beep continuously. The longest I've let it beep before I couldn't stand it anymore and popped the battery out was 25 beeps. There are about two and a half seconds in between each beep. Up until very recently, taking the battery out and putting it back in seemed to solve the problem, but that no longer seems to work.
I've researched beep codes but can't seem to find one matching that description.
Running Windows 7. The BIOS version and date is Dell Inc. A05, 1/3/2013, SMBIOS Version 207.
This sticker (the one saying "regulatory information...." in 50 languages)
would NOT come off by trying to pick at the corners. It was leaving the sticky part on.
When I pulled at the "tab" built into the sticker, I got that off but it left the whole rectangle sticky part on the laptop. In other words, the whole printed part of the sticker came off leaving all the clear sticky material on the palm rest still.
I kept picking at the corners trying to grab them but no luck.
What finally worked was sliding my fingers while pushing on the surface of the palmrest, upward, into the bottom of the sticker. In other words, press your finger on the plastic of the laptop just below the sticky stuff left behind. Keep sliding your finger while pushing on the plastic INTO the bottom line of the sticky part. It will eventually start to roll up. Do this all along the bottom edge of the sticky part and eventually you can grab the "rolled up edge" and pull at it. It should then pull off in one piece. There will be little tiny sticky marks left on the plastic but they come right up when you place the sticky rectangle piece down onto it and pull fast up.
My E1705 was recently worked on for some video card issues. After coming back from the shop, the right side fan is locked at full speed and ignores any i8kfangui settings.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe battery about 8 months ago had gotten old & the Dell servicing application (what's its name?) told me that I needed to purchase a new one. The battery was showing full power (on a full night charge) and yet would only give about 25 minutes power. So, I'd taken to the habit of just keeping the laptop plugged into the adapter.
This past weekend, the light on the side of the laptop (either glow white for getting power or blinking yellow when warning on last few minutes of power or be dark when powered-down-with-no-adapter-plugged) has now gone dark despite being plugged into the adapter.
My 2 year old spilled juice on my new laptop about 3 weeks ago, and now when I power it on it goes to the boot screen, the blue bar doesn't finish loading and it turns off. Ok, today I was just trying things. It's 3 buttons at the top right of the laptop, if I hold the middle one the computer will boot, stay on and I can do everything as normal. But if I let that button go, it turns right off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received my new Aspire One (I actually bought two from Circuit City) and one will NOT boot up. (The second works fine!) I've fully charged the battery. It will boot up to a warning message that a password is incorrect. (It won't stay on the screen long enough to read completely.) The machine seems to loop through the startup process a couple times, and then just powers down. I've tried stopping at SETUP (F2), but it will power down in that screen, too.

Wow, so the Line-in port is not powered, that means any Mic that isn't powered will not work.
