My E1705 was recently worked on for some video card issues. After coming back from the shop, the right side fan is locked at full speed and ignores any i8kfangui settings.
View 10 RepliesSince I recently upgraded to BIOS A12, my XPS 1530 fan goes at full speed when gaming, even if the temps don't go too high...
If I pause the game and go do something else for 1-2 hours, the fan will be at full speed those 1-2 hours... it is better to quit the game instead of just pausing in those cases?

I have an XPS M1710 and it has the 3945ABG wireless card. Just today I upgraded my internet speed to 15Mb down. When I go to www.speedtest.net I get a result of 5Mb down.
I have tried the same test on one other laptop (not a Dell) and another desktop. None of the components involved are capable of 802.11N so I know its not that. The wireless router being used it Linksys WRT54G.
One more note, when I connect the router, or modem up directly to my NIC I will get the fill 15Mb.
My problem is first i had clean my laptop yesterday with a cleaner for laptops l disable my laptop battery and clean it and put it with towel cover for two hours and i turned it on then the laptop work fine but the keyboard has a problem it type different thing than i typed then i disable it and put the keyboard under the sun for about 3 hours and the problem still founded then i open my laptop and extract the motherboard and i just clean it with caution with cotton and then put the motherboard in the laptop and connect all the wire with it thn i close the cover of laptop and turned th laptop on and just the fan run at full speed and the light works also the cd room but the motherboard not working my qustion is what the problem behind the full speed fan and blank screen is it a disabled hardware like cpu or gpu or ram...

The problem is that the fan on my computer always stays at minimum speed and as the computer heats up, the fan will not speed up to its full speed. The computer gets really hot ~70°C. The problem occurred when I upgraded bios to its latest version F.20. I believe that there is a bug with this bios- that the bios will not control the fan properly. This type of notebook has a history of bios bugs: its original bios made the fan run all the time at full speed which was fixed with a bios upgrade.
This bios came with a note that I cannot downgrade to a previous version that worked well. So my question is, can I expect a bios upgrade for this computer that would fix the error.
The last bios update for the Notebook probook 4320s did something odd to my notebook, the cpu frequency never get to full speed as i found out after so many tries its a BIOS bug
If i boot with battery fully charged and power ac on the cpu gets to 933 mhz
if i remove the power cord cpu gets to 1200mhz
i have to reboot with only the battery for the CPU to get to 2200mhz as its the I3 speed
There is no way to disable speed step or to disable bios control power .....
my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought Sony FW490 with full hd screen (1920x1080) but after hearing so much about wonderful RGB LED display on Dell, I got one from Dell outlet and now I can compare them both side by side and send one back. To my surprise Sony's screen is a tad brighter,
white color is white and red is very accurate too, on Dell screen is dimmer (on full brightness) red is more brownish and white is yellow-greenish.
I was reading this forum for a few months and almost everybody says that RGB screen is very bright, that one can use it on half brightness, but that is not the case with my SXPS16.
I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.
I placed and order on June 16 2009 for the new Dell Studio 14z Laptop.... The estimated delivery date was July 22, 2009 (). I called to find out about the hold up and the rep put me on hold told me it was in production. This went on for 3 days.
I decided to cancel the order but when I called Dell they tell me the odrder was shipped. I check website and it still says in production. Now I am pssed and I don't want the Studio 14z I purchased a Mac Book from the local APPLe store........
I paid for the Dell with my dell preferred account ...... can I just refuse the delivery and get my money back or should I accecpt the delveiry and then call dell to ship it back. Also how wwould that affect my dell preferred account. How long will it take to get credited back to the account.
is there any way to control the leds on the side? i sleep with my laptop in my room and those lights blinking gets to me, but i don't want to shut it all the way down...i know there was something to control all the lights on the older xps's but haven't heard of anything for the new ones
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an XPS M1530 which just had its motherboard replaced. I've now noticed that the underside of the laptop directly under the touchpad gets very hot. Its far hotter than any other area of the laptop even on load!
Its a new mobo and not a refurb. After using for half an hour it becomes quite uncomfortable on my lap. I initially thought it might be the WLAN card but ive switched it off and used ethernet instead. The problem persists. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their systems?
Just last week I got nice E6400. Since the first day of possession I observing that right side rest pad (on DVD drive side) getting quite hot, where you start feeling good amount of heat while typing.

would NOT come off by trying to pick at the corners. It was leaving the sticky part on.
When I pulled at the "tab" built into the sticker, I got that off but it left the whole rectangle sticky part on the laptop. In other words, the whole printed part of the sticker came off leaving all the clear sticky material on the palm rest still.
I kept picking at the corners trying to grab them but no luck.
What finally worked was sliding my fingers while pushing on the surface of the palmrest, upward, into the bottom of the sticker. In other words, press your finger on the plastic of the laptop just below the sticky stuff left behind. Keep sliding your finger while pushing on the plastic INTO the bottom line of the sticky part. It will eventually start to roll up. Do this all along the bottom edge of the sticky part and eventually you can grab the "rolled up edge" and pull at it. It should then pull off in one piece. There will be little tiny sticky marks left on the plastic but they come right up when you place the sticky rectangle piece down onto it and pull fast up.
The battery about 8 months ago had gotten old & the Dell servicing application (what's its name?) told me that I needed to purchase a new one. The battery was showing full power (on a full night charge) and yet would only give about 25 minutes power. So, I'd taken to the habit of just keeping the laptop plugged into the adapter.
This past weekend, the light on the side of the laptop (either glow white for getting power or blinking yellow when warning on last few minutes of power or be dark when powered-down-with-no-adapter-plugged) has now gone dark despite being plugged into the adapter.
I've had my M1530 for about 5 months and in the last few days and have had a problem with the screen.
Twice in the last 3-4 days I have come home from work to find the left hand side of the screen substantially dimme(darker.
The screen was left on regular settings, no screen saver etc. Within 5 minutes of use the left hand side of the screen had returned to normal brightness..
I’ve got a Del Studio 1753 laptop and I use it with a separate LG flatron w2486L screen. The cable recently came out of the VGA port and when I plugged it back in there is now a black strip at each side of the screen and the image doesn’t go across the full width any more. In display settings I’ve got the monitor set at the highest resolution possible, 1440x900, but this makes no difference (I’m on Windows 7).

Only asking because I applied the QuietHDD program to stop the clacking from the heads parking on these two Seagate ST9500420AS. It seems to work on one but not both. The drive on the right keeps clacking on and off all the time, annoying! But I have lots running and downloading torrents on the D drive (second hard drive) and constantly using the C drive opening and doing stuff yet theres always clacking, I don't know where it finds the time to decide to park the heads when I am using it and its not idle.
I have tried many settings on the computer, as well as cleaning out all my nvidia drivers and installing them back. There seems to be no solution. How do I fix this?

The left side usb port appears to have fallen into the laptop case. It is rattling around, visible and does not appear to be connected to anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe McAfee expired and each time it opens a new windows I get an error message and am asked to buy again. Started to freeze the screen and I'd have to shut down the unit and start again if I had more than 3 open windows.There was a system restore logo on the left side of the screen - so I thought maybe that would work - wrong thing to do!
Now it starts, and then the windows colored balls appear and turn into the logo - then nothing but blue gray screen. Tried doing F-8 system restore to factory settings, the last option, as recommended by MicroWarehouse where machine was purchased for Army son-in-law in 2011 - would not run completely. the instruction at 0x0411c2e3 referenced memory at 0x0db81030. The memory could not be written. went back to that F8 screen automatically so I tried it again - same message ar 0x44cc2r3 and back to the screen
since it said memory, I clicked on restore memory - which may have been wrong as it said I had videos, and I did not, and it said I had pictures, which I would only have had in e-mail. but I clicked to do it. Took several hours to run. and still screen is blue/gray. Now it won't even F8. Thinking my son-in-law may have disturbed something when he re-set it for me (took all their info off prior to military deployment - and when I tried to restore that may have conflicted with what he did. (We got him btter unit, I got old one)

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe keyboard is sticking out from the right hand side...So I can literally lift it up from the lap top using my finger.
Also the lap top doesn't stay balanced sitting on a table. It rocks back forth as if one of eraser pads underneath is bigger than the other. But that's not the case after I examined it..
I've only had it for 5 months and today is the first day I noticed these things...It's never been dropped or anything with light use.
I have the extended warranty, I wonder if its covered.
A couple of days ago, and quite some time after the latest BIOS upgrade I noticed that under windows the keyboard and mouse on a unified receiver wouldn't work anymore. I normally use Linux and didn't notice the malfunction because Linux does find the USB and enables it (as seen in logs) and they work.
First I thought it's some weird Windows driver issue but the thing that is different is that when booting (grub) or in BIOS - the keyboard and mouse don't work there as well indicating that apparently BIOS doesn't enable it at boot.
I am now not sure whether the BIOS upgrade did this or something else. Since it works under Linux I can hardly consider it as a hardware problem.
What works under Windows anyway is charging USB devices - so apparently something comes through that port.
I am trying to troubleshoot a E1-531-4836 model laptop, the right handside from the 9 does not work. So Num Lock and number pad etc does not work. The touchpad does not work well either. I can plug a USB keyboard and mouse in and they seem to work for the most part. Sometimes I can not bring up the charms etc with the USB mouse. then I have to hit the space bar on the laptop keyboard,and I then can use the USB mouse to bring up charms. I tried updating drivers and restoring to original settings. Did not fix my problem.
