Dell :: CPU FSB Is At 166 But Rated At 666. Normal
Sep 16, 2007I know this will be the bonehead question of the day, but...RAM rated at 667, runs at 333. CPU rated at 667, but runs at 166. Could someone explain how this all works?

View 11 RepliesI have a dell inspiron N5110 and i am planning on upgrading the ram modules which are rated at 1333hz. i would like to know if the motherboard can support ram modules at higher frequencies, if yes, how much of a performance boost can I expect.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy only question here is whether or not the LED version is noticeably thinner than the normal LCD version.
If it's not noticeably thinner, I'm not going to bother with that option. I know the LED is brighter,
but in imho, if it's not noticeably thinner, it does not warrant a $100+ premium.
edit: now I'm having second thoughts. Can someone help me pick? LED or 9500 GE? They cost about the same for an upgrade.
edit: I just ordered a refurb from outlet
dell studio xps 1340
13inch LED
2.4ghz c2d
320gb 7200rpm HD
4gb ram .....
Well i'm about to order a fully Loaded XPS 1330, but i'm confused on wether to get the Slim or the normal LCD.Which one is better?? and If I choose the normal lcd will it differ in weight?? and what's the actual weight of this laptop?
Finally, is this laptop worth the cash or shall I go for the Macbook?? I prefer the XPS due to the better video card.
When idle, my harddrive makes a very faint clicking noise. By "clicking", I mean the same sound it makes when it is loading something... you know, that "tik tik tik" noise.
However, when idle, it tends to make little "tik" noises every 2/3 seconds or so.
Now, according to the internet, clicking means my HD is about to die... but having looked on youtube, by clicking people mean very loud clicking, like i was turning a light switch on and off...
Now I don't know. Is "access" clicking every few seconds normal? Or should i get my hd replaced??
To clarify, the clicking i am experiencing is no louder than the clicking you hear when ur HD is accessing information. If I used HDParm and play with the settings, the clicking sounds becomes almost impossible to hear and less frequent.
I just got my 1730 today and it's quite awesome.
However upon downloading hwmonitor, it seems my temps usually hover around mid 60s and go to 75s quite often making the fans come on. Is this normal?
And I live in the bay area pretty close to San Francisco, so the weather here is usually pretty cool
This is at idle (although it is about 85 degrees F and humid at my house). But this is with a Antec cooling pad with my SXPS16 on an angle.

Lately I've been busy and haven't played a whole lot of games. Just the other week I notice my GPU temps went up on ilde. The fan would kick in ,to stablized the temp around 75 degrees then drop to 60 or so. The temperature just keeps climbing up till it maxed at around 75 degrees.
Iv'e already went and bought some air can blowers and blow all that dust and lints out. I even ensure it's clean by shining a flash light thur the top of the fans and look thur the vents to see if I can see the fan blades. All is clear but I'm still having then same issues. When I ran games such as RE5 it gets really hot sometimes reaching 95 degrees.
My palms sometimes starts to burn anyone encounter such act? Wondering if there's anything else I can do before calling DELL support!
I've been fighting this M1330 for a while, and had the motherboard replaced once already to "fix" the GPU issue.
But I'm still worried about temps.
Sitting flat on a coffee table (not blocking the vents or anything) and playing Fear 2 demo
the laptop just shut down (presumably due to high temperatures) after only 5-10 minutes.
i got my motherboard replaced today, the idle temperature is the same like before around 65--70 'C.
but i never tested the temp when i m gaming
with previous motherboard. and i did with the new one, the max temp i got was 104'C O_O normal? when i quite the game was 96'C and 5 min later it returned to 70
the notebook is m1330, the game was warcraft III, AC connected
can someone post their m1330 temperature after playing half hour game?
On my (soon to not be my) 1536 I get really loud electrical squeals, kinda like interference that you would get on a phone. And I can usually hear it from across the room.

I have noticed that sometimes my computer is running slower than normal... how can i fix this? what are some steps that i can take?
is it true that norton really does slow down computers?
if your computer is running slow, could that just be a result of windows vista (if you have the latest update)?
i was playing world in conflict on a low res, this normal for the 1530
my CPU temp reaches 98 C while gaming..
wondering how many of you RGB-screens owners who have good/normal white colour ???
if so, what setting (or software) are you using.
Just last week I got nice E6400. Since the first day of possession I observing that right side rest pad (on DVD drive side) getting quite hot, where you start feeling good amount of heat while typing.

I turned my laptop on and my mTRON SSD was not detected. I panicked and i thought that my SSD was dead-on-arrival. I left my computer on for like 10 minutes and then I reboot.
After the reboot my laptop finally detected mTRON 32gb SSD. I'm glad it wasn't dead on arrival... i just have to wait for 10 minutes to be detected when I turn on my computer.
I am notebook user with a Dell Inspiron 1720 (ich8m) and have a sata mtron SSD (16gb) running.
The SSD will not exceed the 84 MB/s read speed in normal mode but in safemode the SSD reaches 98 MB/s or more. I am now running XP but this problem is also in Vista.
On my old desktop with a nfore 4 the ssd always reaches the 98 MB/s even in normal mode.
The maximum speed of the SSD is 100 MB/s ......
I thought I would check how long the battery hold out on my new studio 15, which I got two days ago. Surprisingly, only roughly about an hour. Is this normal? When I just unplug the power cord, it says 3 hours.. and then the remaining time of the battery dropped quickly inpproportionate to the physical time past. The whole time I was just surfing the internet, IMing and playing music. The battery is 56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery.

Maybe its the display drivers.. so i start testing different drivers but no luck, it wont change. See below for example:

Should it be like this? Do I miss the right drivers? My monitory sais General PnP, not any specific.. I'm using windows 7 x64. If its hard to see the vertical lines let me know and i'll try to get better pics.
I put the new xps studio 1640 in my cart with EPP discount, but saw no option for free shipping, is that normal?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude D800 I bought in Summer 2003. I've never really used it away from a power outlet in almost six years of ownership, aside from one time a few weeks ago - when the battery died within 15-20 minutes of powerwing on.
Is it normal for a six year old notebook battery to not hold a charge, even if it's never really been used, and has just been plugged into power (or shut down) constantly throughout the bulk of that time?
My i9400 died last Tuesday. While sitting idle on a marble topped end table the fans went wide open for 15 seconds and then it just turned off. Not shut down, just dead. I went to bed figuring this must have been an overheat protection shutdown and tried to crank it up the next day and nothing. Hit the power button and the green light blips once and thats it.
I have the top of the line warranty and next day service so Dell came out 2 days later (not next day but close enough at first) and replaced the MB and fans. This got us nowhere. He gets on the phone with Dell and they send another MB and Processor as well for the next day.
Visit two with another MB and new processor produced nothing again. The field tech (pretty knowledgeable) said that this would have to go back to dell and that I needed to call them.
So I call them and they say that a third visit would be required I said fine send whoever, this thing is not coming back to life and my business is being severely hampered by this notebook being down. They try to re-diagnose over the phone and corectly come to the conclusion (again) that the computer is toast.
My problem is this: They finally conceded to me returning this $4000 brick to them but I could not get a i9400 loaner overnighted to throw my HD in to get back up. I've got my HD out and in an external enclosure but this really slows things down finding files and loading apps on another computer that is already slower to start with.
I've got a business to run and it is running slower with this laptop being down. I was told by Dell it would take 2 days to get a box to return the computer in and then 5-8 days to repair it and then shipping after that. An exchange would be up to 2 weeks total turnaround time...........
I currently have a dell xps 17 laptop. It will not switch on properly.
When I power it on, the lights flash on as normal, and some of the fans appear to start (although the side fan does not appear to work). The cd drive will open when I press the button, and the touch buttons light up on contact as normal.
However, the screen does not switch on at all. The laptop will stay on but nothing will happen. The side fan does not appear to be working either (i cant hear it, and that area gets VERY hot when plugged in).
I am currently on holiday and do not have an hdmi cable to test it on an external display (though I could maybe buy one).
I have tried fully charging and depleting the battery, I have tried removing and reinserting the coin cell battery and the memory.
I have a dell XPS m1530, with an 8600MGT graphics card.
Every time I load up my laptop, it takes me to the dell loading screen, then the windows vista loading screen, then finally I hear the chimes for the vista login screen but nothing appears !
Also when I login on safe mode it works fine, then When I uninstall my graphics card driver via safe mode ..
I got my E6400 + regular dock few weeks ago.
I'm working with Windows 7 64bit.
When the dock is connected and I'm transfer files from computer in my network to the E6400.. The fan start work at full power and it's very annoying
my temp is:
Core 0 - 33C (89F)
core 1 - 36C (95F)
ACPI - 42C (106F)
HDD - 44C (111F)
the processor is T9550 (I'm undervolting the processor)
Whenever I plug my earphones in my Studio 1537, I can hear a constant noise without playing any music or other audio. Is this normal?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI need to check the normal operating temperature for the Dell Latitude E7440. My fan is constantly on and the air coming out the side vent is extremely hot. I have installed a temperature app and with basic use (windows 8.1 and 2 or 3 apps open) the core 0 and core 1 of the processor are running between 85 and 90 degrees Celsius. When plugged into power, the fan is permanently on high speed. I don't know if this is normal. I dont understand why it is getting so hot, i have the i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD, so literally no moving parts to generate heat. My battery (47Wh) drains very quickly as well, 2 1/2 hours max.
View 14 Replies View Relatedare AA1 owners able to hear the fan on their netbooks? mine isn't loud and doesn't change when the netbook is tilted, but curious if they're SUPPOSED to be silent. i don't mind the sound personally, just sounds like a tiny motor spinning in a quiet room - no clicking or anything like that.
