View 7 RepliesJust got an email from Dell stating that my service contract will expire in 30 days.
How much would this be to renew, and how long does it renew it for? Also, if I wanted to add accidental coverage, how much additional would that be? Do they replace the laptop if its dropped, broken, yet still functional?
I would call Dell, but I'm at work and wouldn't be able to contact them until tomorrow evening if I'm lucky.
In mac, when you say download a virus, must it be open/run before it can excute itself? does it also require the user's password before it can continue? if you did not open/run it, then the virus will not excute and lay dormant inside itself or its package (trojan). is this correct?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI indent to get a dell studio 1537, but the shop where I want to buy it doesn't specify which kind of display it has.
Also their tech support is to dumb to get the info from anywhere else except their own page. (they provided a link to the 1555 model to get the resolution from there... duh).

My questions are, what resolutions are in the 1537 ? I want one with 1440x900 so, is there the posibility to get a 1280x800 one ? or all the 1537 and ATI 3450 come with at least 1440x900 .....
i just got my dell studio 15 and i had two Display options when i customised

I've got a XPS 15 (L511Z) which recently stopped charging the battery. It says plugged in but not charging when I hover the mouse over the battery icon. Luckily I've got an extended warranty and on contacting Dell they sent out a new charger. I plugged that in and the same result. In fact now when I boot the laptop it gives me an "The AC adapter plugged in cannot be determined" message.
Dell then asked me to buy a new battery since batteries are not covered in the warranty. Did that but still no luck. Am thinking that the original battery was ok to begin with anyway! Dell then asked me to update the BIOS but when I tried to with the update they gave me it failed, saying incompatible with the current hardware.
I then ran the DELL Support Center utility which identified another BIOS update which updated successfully but then I noticed that it changed the Product to L501X now. The charging issue still persists though.I've sent a response back to Dell but based on what I've been reading on the forums it looks like the motherboard would have to be replaced.
How do i turn off the beep while i type on XPS13 on physical keyboard and not the on screen keyboard .
this sound while tying is really distracting not only to me but every one in my office
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.
Oh, I have a M1330, and I have gotten a lot of use out of this laptop
I'm looking to buy a new Unibody MBP in the next couple of weeks and have been thinking about getting an SSD for it. I don't have a problem dropping one in there myself, but seeing as I'd have to take the drive out any time I wanted it serviced and Apple offers an SSD, I was curious if anybody on here got theirs from Apple and what brand the drive is so I can check out it's performance.

Do to some problems with my current e6400, DELL is giving me a refund and I will likely buy another with different specs. My current laptop has a T9400.
Considering I only use basic computer software (Outlook, iTunes, some proprietary CRM software and Excel), what benefits are there for me to go for another 6m cache as opposed to saving some money and getting say a P8600 3m?
Would I notice the performance difference between a T9400 or 9500 and a P8600? (im also trying to keep the temps down as much as possible too.)
I use this laptop in an E-Port with TWO external displays.
By now you know what error I am getting, but still here are the screens:
I've pressed F2 and all that stuff, here's what I get in to BIOS;
It'sstill under 1 year warrenty.
Only 34% battery left 0x...
I bought a new docking station to improve my workplace at home. Unfortunately I wasn't able to start a system because of warning during a booting sequence : "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge....etc". After that waring the only possible action is pressing F1 button to shutdown a system.I connect an AC adapter directly without a docking station, a system started properly.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message.

When I boot up my laptop, I get this exact error:
Quote:
The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance.
To resolve this issue, try to reseat the power adapter
Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. Press F5 to un onboard diagnostics.

I recently updated from BIOS A08 to A09 if that matters. Any ideas?
Brand new Inspiron 13 7000 (7347) 2 in 1. Its just out of the box, and I'm just finishing windows updates and Dell Drivers.I seem to be getting this error message when I boot up, maybe 10-15 % of the time"AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"..As with others, Press F1 to continue, F2 to check Bios, F3 to ignore this.In bios I see <unknown power adpater> I unplug and replug the power supply and it magically comes back as <65 watts>
When this issue is occuring, the battery won't charge, it held at 91%. I also got the warning in Windows one time.Is this just the power supply, or the laptop itself ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a old dell inspiron 6400 this isn't my main laptop anymore but i still love it so i want to fix it a year or 2 ago the laptop wouldn't boot i fixed it by taking one ram stick out of DIMM B i have 2 slots it use to have 512mb on each side one on dimm A and one on Dimm B. I want to use the second ram stick so i can use 1024 mb of ram. if i put them both in numlock 9 is on(and shining green) numclock A and Numlock down arrow are blinking(green).
and also i get a arrow at boot saying the ac adapter type cannot be determined please connect a dell 65w charager or better for optimal preformance and blah blah the battery will not charge and performance will decrease. I purchased to dell chargers with my laptop a 65w and a 90w they both give the sam error i did research on both my problems until i joined this and someone said that the cords were flexed and the wires weren't connecting. well both of my chargers have been flexed for 1-2 years is this why?
I have an Aspire 4720z that had a hard drive failure. I replaced the hard drive with a new Seagate and went to the Acer support pages. Since I was foolish and never followed the process to use the e portion to create recovery disks, I had to purchase the recovery disks from the Acer website. When I start the system disk, it goes through picking the language etc. and then tells me to insert the first recovery disk. I do this and it pops up a warning about making sure you do not have any external drives......make sure you want to do this as this will reformat the C:......etc. At this point I click next to go on and it pops up a Recovery32 Type Mismatch error and won't go any further to recover my system. Based on all the reading that I have been doing on this it would seem that there may be some HDD formatting issues that I need to resolve, but I am at a loss.
