1) What type of keyboard does the Studio xps 1640 have, is it chicklet? And is it good to type on. IS it better than the xps m530's keyboard.
2) Are their any anoying dell stickers on it that will just peel off like on the m1530's hinge?
3) Does the lid say XPS like the m1530?
4) How is the trackpad is it too small like the xps m1530? I found the trackpad to be too small for me

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend is very cheap and will not get a new computer. He has a dell lat. D520. I wiped everything and installed all the drivers from the dell website for the laptop.
Everything works great until you have to type or move the trackpad. It tends to jump around or insert other letters then the one chosen. But a usb external keyboard works fine!
I called dell and said that he doesnt have any warranty and said maybe the buttons were stuck? Should he order a new keyboard for 50 bucks?

It is probably a little to early to ask, but does anyone know if the Backlit Keyboard and Trackpad from the Studio XPS can swap into the regular XPS M series?
Even if the backlighting didn't work, my main gripe is the silver keyboard, which is difficult to read under airplane lighting. Black keyboard with white fonts are much better.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard and trackpad on my Compaq Presario CQ60 notebook are not responding and don't have any external devices to see whether this is an internal matter. Cannot restart in Safe Mode as keyboard does not respond, however it allows me to type in my password to access vista! I think I have just locked the computer, but don't know how to unlock it, various forums have specified reinstalling drivers etc. but I am unable to do this with no working keyboard and do not know how whether I have pressed a combination of keys which have caused this. I am not sure whether this is a Vista problem or a Compaq/HP problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just received today my new Studio XPS M1640 laptop (with blue ray drive and led screen) and so far all seems to be good except ... It can't play Blue-Ray movies. When I insert a BD disk, the autoplay only gives me the option to explore the folders with explorer. No option to play the disk. If I right click on the drive, I can select powerdvd but once in powerdvd nothing happens.
Notes:
1) I can see the folders on the BD disk in explorer
2) I tried it with the version of powerdvd dx that came with the laptop and also used the online update option of powerdvd dx to get the latest version (8.1). No change.
3) I'm trying to play to the built-in screen, no external monitor connected.
4) I've read somewhere about a blue-ray icon in powerdvd, I don't see this.
5) A long call with Dell support yielded nothing. I specifically asked if they might have shipped the wrong version (non-blue ray of powerdvd), the tech said that they only have the one version and that it has been tested to play BD disks properly.
6) Dell support says to try with other BD disks and if it still doesn't work to return the computer to have it fixed. (I don't really want to do that since it seems to be a software problem).
7) I ran the Cyberlink Blue Ray advisor and it tells me that all is fine except that it doesn't detect a blue ray software player.
Anybody else ran into this? Any solutions?
It would seem a bit strange to have to pay extra for a blue ray movie player on a brand new laptop that included a blue ray drive.
Do people usually remove the stickers that come on the lower-right-hand corner of your keyboard saying "Windows Vista" and "Intel Centrino" and such?
View 10 Replies View Related1) Start with one corner of the sticker and pick at it with your nail and nothing else (unless you know for a fact what you are using will not scratch your computer) until the corner is lifted high enough to grab onto and peel back. Note: this is very tough in some occasions so just slowly continue to work the sticker, I promise it will come up.
2) Once you can get a hold of the corner you picked up, pull back slowly to ensure you bring at least most of the adhesive up with the sticker.
3) After you get the sticker up there will probably be a little adhesive right where you attempted to pick at the corner or maybe somewhere else. If this is the case do not rub it or pick it or anything, just use the adhesive on the sticker you took off to "dab" up the rest of the adhesive on you're computer. (Almost like back in the day when it was clean-up time and there was playdoh every where, you'd gather it all in one ball.) And repeat for however many stickers you have.
If you follow these rules and are careful, you will not have any trouble getting the unsightly childish stickers off of your computer.
I have tried creating a recovery disk using the ‘Acer Empowering Technology’ but every time i click on the “create factory default disc” button, the “Acer eRecovering Management” freezes and i get an error message saying : Acer Empowering Technology Framework launcher has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows is collecting more information about the problem.
Another thing, i know how to unhide the 'PQSERVICE' partition, but i'm wondering if it's possible to create these discs directly from the partition without the need for the faulty 'eRecovery Management'. If yes, how?
Has anyone removed the stickers from the right palmrest of their E6400 (or similar)? The Windows Vista Basic sticker is really annoying to me, but it seems to be very securely attached and I don't want to ruin anything in the process of removing it....

View 10 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to taking the stickers off of the palmrest on my Z11, and I was left with a lot of goo.
I was too lazy to pick up "goo gone" cleaner so I just rubbed off the sticker goo with my thumb.
Problem is, it left a "carbon footstep" of where the sticker goo was which, no matter how hard I try, I can't clean.
If I look at it at a certain angle, I can see a whole pattern of where I rubbed the sticker goo off. It's really really ugly and I would advise anyone getting around to it to be smart about it and buy goo gone

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on my 2nd SXPS 16 (first one had dust under the glass) and on both systems the trackpad gets very hot even when I'm barely using the computer! Is there anything I can do to get the heat down? Is there a application that allows me to increase fan speed?
It really get uncomfortably hot even when it's just sitting on my desk with no programs running (and I have the 256GB SSD which I thought would reduce heat!). I also know this isn't an issue with the computer b/c the original one I had, had the same issue
my track pad on my M1530. I have sometime when I will run my finger across the track pad but the cursor with not move. It will jitter a little bit but will do nothing else. Then after a couple seconds, and sometime a hit on the palm rest, it will work again. It has happened probably the whole time I have had the laptop( 7 months), and now it seems to be occurring more frequently. Also, for the whole time I have had the laptop, the track pad will not always register a tap on it as a click, it just sits there like I did nothing. I know that could be a setting, but I have messed with them the best I can and it has changed nothing. Do you think this could be a driver issue, I have updated the driver since I got the laptop, or could it be bad hardware that came with the laptop. I have a complete care warranty, so they would probably replace it no problem, and I am already going to have the motherboard replaced because of a broken clip on the Ethernet port.

Every so often (probably once week) the trackpad will stop functioning: the buttons keep working but the pointer does not move. At that point the only thing I can do is to shut down and reboot. There doesn't seem anything systematic about what I am doing before to trigger this.
I normally have the pointing stick switched off, I've turned it back on to see how that interacts
I'm used to the trackpad of the Inspiron 8600 which is accurate and responsive. By comparison the trackpad of the E6500 is not very responsive.
I can move my finger 1/3 of the way across the trackpad before the cursor responds, and even then the cursor will lag behind my fingertip.
I'm using either a usb or bluetooth mouse with my new XPS 15z, and i'm  getting tired of a problem...
The trackpad is impossible to shut down for good... i mean: indeed you can  disable it, turn it off, and even tell it to turn off when usb mouse is plugged, but it never really does, it always, always, always stays on for a second before shutting down...
In other words: my trackpad is disabled, both buttons and touch, and i use a bluetooth mouse. but even it is disabled, if i pass my fingers on it, the cursor moves for 1cm before shutting down... then i wait 2 minutes, and i pass my fingers on it again, and then again the cursor moves 1 cm before stopping moving.
So it is never really shut down, with the consequence i never can type text without my hand touching it and putting the cursor somewhere in the page and i have to put the cursor back to where it was, Â Â
For example it happened 5 times when typing this very text....
I have updated the cypress trackpad drivers to last up to date version...
Suddenly, after a year of use, the Cypress trackpad has become inaccurate. The pointer judders when I move it across the screen and when I tap to open or close something or anywhere on the screen, the pointer move slightly (usually up and to right by a small amount) when I tap. This is frustrating when trying to do simple tasks. This is not caused by a change in senstivity on the trackpad. I have checked all the defaults settings in case something changed. I am running Windows 7 on a XPS 15z.

Also their tech support is to dumb to get the info from anywhere else except their own page. (they provided a link to the 1555 model to get the resolution from there... duh).
