Dell :: Crackling Noise From Adapter (XPS 1645)

Dec 16, 2009

i noticed a slight crackling noise coming from the adapter. It sounded like an electrical problem within the power brick itself but i'm not an electrician. So I immediately called dell and told them the situation. They had me go through a series of restarts, shutdowns, and even updated my bios for me, but still no solution. Fortunately dell will be shipping me a replacement adapter and power cord.

Dell :: Crackling Audio - Hiss/noise

Dec 7, 2008

Along with other people I have a constant hiss/noise whenever I plug in my headphones, even when not playing music or any audio. I'd like to know whether it is a specific problem of which only my Studio suffers or if this is a problem which occurs to every Studio.

To be clear: I'm not talking about the infamous crackling audio problem.

How do I tell if mine is 130 W or 90 W? I have 2 adapters: the 1st came with my older 1640 and says 90 W on the front, while the newer one that came with my 1645 does not say anything related to W. The part # is WK890 and everything else is about Amps, Voltages, Made in China, etc.

Dell :: S-XPS 1645 AC Adapter, Anyone Tried 150w,210w Or 230w

Dec 3, 2009

Seeing as how some people have tried the 130w AC adapter for the XPS 1645 i7 models and it solved their problems and how some still have a few issues(less though than the 90w adapter), I am just curious if anyone has tried the higher powered adapters and noticing any improvements as there are 150w, 210w and 230w adapters out there.

I wonder if there is a cut off at some point, as to how much power can be drained through the adapter for this model. Its possible the 130w is the limit and the 150w+ might be more than it's capable to drain and there'd be no added benefit. Who knows, hopefully someone will try it out and will share the experience.

All I know is its a shame that when you opt to get a nice screen (RGBh) and have to spend more money for it you get shafted due to its power usage. In our day and age that shouldn't even be in the list of possible problems, tell me its a driver issue, a bios issue and I'd understand but this is utterly disappointing .

Dell :: Laptop Power Adapter Sparking Noise

Sep 5, 2009

just got my Refurb Dell XPS studio 16 3 days ago, and there was a weird sparking noise(nothing visible) coming from the brick.

So, I disconnected the adapter and plugged it back in. That reduced the noise, to where I can only hear it if I stick my ear to the brick.

I called Dell Tech support and they said they will send a replacement. So, 2 questions

1) Is it normal to hear that sound if you put your ear next to the adapter(It's like some sparks are going on inside .....

It sounded like a mouse or something chewing/clawing away at something. I freaked out I searched the entire room and finally narrowed down the sound to my damn power adapter.

It was making a sort of clicking/ light scratching noise. It's still doing it, is this normal, this is the first time I've heard it.

Heres an MP3 I made of the noise.

I was going to take the keyboard out to see if I could clean it but after taking out the screws from where the battery sits, I can't manage to take off the control cover.

Dell :: Crackling And Popping Noises

Jan 13, 2009

I have inspiron 9300 and when I play mp3's on the laptop it makes a crackling and poping noise every 1-3 seconds, when it does this it pauses the song about 1/2-1 seconds each time it makes this noise. It also does this when I play my ripped dvd's on the harddrive and playing video games, it pauses the movies and games 1/2-1 seconds seconds during the crackling and popping noises. I can temporarily fix this sometimes when I take the harddrive out for about 8-9 hrs and put back in again, but after I reboot or turn it off and turn it on again the crackling and popping noises come back. When I play dvd's or cd music in the optical drive this doesnt happen. What can I do to fix this?

Dell :: Plugged Power Adapter Into Wrong Laptop, Now Adapter Doesn't Work?

Nov 9, 2009

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and my friend has a Latitude D820.

Tonight she accidentally plugged my power adapter into her laptop. A few hours later, she noticed that her laptop indicated that it wasn't plugged in, and that's when we realized that she had accidentally used my adapter instead of hers.

Now my adapter doesn't work at all. We've tried the adapter with both our laptops with different outlets with the same problem, so we know it's the adapter. The green light also doesn't come on when it's plugged in anymore.

Did plugging my adapter into her laptop somehow screw up my adapter, or could this just be a coincidence? Is there any way to fix the adapter or at least figure out what the problem is? And if I have to purchase a new adapter, do the universal ones they sell at retail electronics stores work OK? I would order one from Dell but I'm working on a project now and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.

1. Do you experience sound crackling? If so, what Wifi card do you have? I have the Intel Wifi 5100 card, which does occassionally cause some crackling.

2. The headphone jack has some line noise which is present all the time. Do you have this as well?

Dell :: Crackling Audio In E1505 With USB Sound Card

Jan 18, 2009

I am in desperation currently with this problem. Let me explain my setup first.
I have the Dell E1505, 2gb ram, ATI X1400 mobility, 1.66ghz duocore processor, about 2 years old.

I recently got fed up with the onboard sound as I have taken a hobby up in purchasing high fidelity headphones.

This led me to get a M-Audio Fast Track Pro which is an external sound card with a separate headphone amplifier.

I basically used this sound card as my sound card as opposed to the sigmatel audio that's in the computer.

Everything was great but i found out that everytime that I did anything graphics related on my computer (blow up an image, scroll down a webpage, minimize a window, etc) that there would be a crackle/static that comes from the sound.

It got reallllly annoying so I tried finding a solution but really could not.

like in several threads mentioned installing not the DELL-WLAn drivers but the broadcom Mini-1510 (http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R212337.EXE) reduces the latency/crackling sound problem.

This worked also on my E6500, so I'm very happy.

I also tried to change hd from IRRT to AHCI, disabling DELL WLAn 802.11a, installing Matirx driver 8.2 or 8.8 and so on.

Hopefully someone might find this more useful than digging through pages and pages of conversations!

I have tried most if not all these solutions and none have worked for me. I still have 1 skip every minute or 2 and cannot listen to a single mp3 without it at least having a single skip somewhere in it.

Dell XPS 17 L702x :: FPS Drops Screen Freezing Crackling Audio

Apr 22, 2012

I just purchased a Dell XPS 17. The problem while playing video game is, that randomly the sound starts crackling for 1 or 2 seconds and the screen freezes with it, or the FPS drops down to 5 or lower.

I thought it might be problems with the fan on the laptop, or the AC adapter doesn't give energy for the laptop so it chokes down? It mostly happens, when the laptop gets pretty hot.

Also I tried to contact the Dell customer service, but it says i purchased the Laptop in the United Kingdom, which I didn't. I used the Dell Customer service from the U.S. and used the chat without any problems. When i try to E-mail them, it gives me an error, that it cannot read my system components (I don't remember exactly what it said, might be something else, but it was an error).

Dell Inspiron 11 3147 :: Crackling Noises When Play Music From YouTube

Jan 5, 2015

I have recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 11 3147. Everything was fine for about an hour (created my MS Windows account, installed some apps, laptop was perfectly quiet), until I decided to play some music from YouTube. The sound was really cracking and from that point the laptop constantly makes quiet buzzing/cracking noise (it does not come from speakers!), just like HDD is reading data very fast or the fan was damaged. Sometimes music is played fine, and sometimes (i dont know what it depends on) sound is crackling even more.

Plus when the computer starts, the fan noise is quite buzzing too.

I don't know what could be the problem since it all started when I played music, I dont know what makes music crackle too! I tried to reinstall sound drivers but I guess it's not the driver, since the buzz is there even when Windows is not loaded.

Sony :: Vaio PCG-5K2- Mmaking Crackling Noises Near Fan

Jan 10, 2010

It's a Sony Vaio PCG-5K2M, and for the almost 2 year period I've had it, I've had no problems at all.

Recently, something must have bashed against it, as I noticed the plastic bars covering what I can only guess is the 'fan' at the back have been snapped off.

By 'fan', i mean the bunch of what looks like copper lines on the left hand side of the laptop, just above "S VIDEO OUT". (Sorry my explanation is bad, I have no technical experience with laptop terms whatsoever).

Ever since the plastic bars were snapped off, the 'fan' at the side has been making 'crackling' noises, and I could have sworn I've seen a few sparks come out the side of it, which alerted me that something isn't right.

The 'crackling' sound isn't all the time, it occurs sometimes, but I'm just curious as has anyone else had a similar problem like this? I'm quite concerned that if I leave it, it'll only get worse and I'll be left with no laptop at all!

Apple :: MacBook Makes Crackling Sounds

Feb 8, 2009

My MacBook has recently been making crackling sounds (very static-ky), especially when I use YM or play the Funk sound in the Sound Preferences. Generally, the crackling sound occurs when I get an alert or any short bursts of sound that quickly plays. After that, the crackling goes away until the next abrupt alert plays.

Also, when I play the Funk sound in quick succession, the systemwide sound altogether fails. I know it's not a speaker thing since the same scenario occurs even when I use headphones.

Could it be a software or logicboard thing?
