View 10 RepliesWhenever I insert an SD card or Sony Memory Stick in the memory card reader (VGP-MCA20) of my SZ, the computer doesn't recognize it. If I double click on the removable drive, it hangs the computer. I tried 16MB and 512MB SD Cards and 16MB Sony Memory Stick. All of them don't work. I tried them with my FW notebook and they work fine. So, it is not the media problem.
I tried to restore from Recovery DVD with Windows XP, install with Windows Vista and I still have the same problem.
I was thinking about going 8gb ram in my 1730. would i notice any good justifiable increase in games? I know i would need the 64bit os.

I have an Aspire 7530 which will not boot with two memory sticks in, but boots fine with only the lower slot populated. My thought is that the upper memory slot is faulty.

After being put on hold for an inexcusible amount of time the tech, that I could hardly understand said it wouldn't work. Why not, and if not what will?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 x 4GB sticks of G.SKill F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ DDR3-1066 PC3-8500 CL7-7-7-20 SO-DIMM.
They worked perfectly as the only memory sticks in a W500, but I'd like to install them in addition to the 2 x 4GB Lenovo memory sticks that came with the W520.
Is this going to work and be stable at all? After reading the W520 specs, I'm still uncertain about the memory speeds of the two different sets of sticks and if that is a real compatibility issue. I don't know enough about memory specs.
Full error message:
Memory write/read failure at 00020040, read 02ED4AED expecting 02ED02ED. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the memory.
I am unable to get past this screen. Windows will not launch. Inserting OS disc triggers no response.

I have a Dell Studio 1440. It has only one user replaceable memory slot. 1 GB is on board. After upgrading the RAM to 4 GB my computer had 5 GB and worked well for almost a year. Then there seemed to be a memory failure. I put the old 2 GB DIMM that came with the laptop and the laptop worked for a while. However, one day it just started beeping (4 beeps) at startup. Now, no matter what memory I put in, it just beeps. It works perfectly well with no memory in the slot i.e. with 1 GB on board. All diagnostics pass.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy xps was having start-up issues and when trying to run the Vista Start-up Repair disk I received an error:
'The instruction at 0x7336e159 referenced memory at 0x00000076. The memory could not be read. Press CANCEL to terminate the program'.
Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:
' ERROR CODE: 0142 MSG: Error 2000-0142 MSG: Hard Drive 1-Self Test unsuccessful STATUS: 79'.
I have installation disks as follows:
Dell Drivers and Utilities for XPS M1530, Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT Reinstallation DVD, Dell Media Direct 3.5 for XPS Reinstallation Disk.
What can I do?
Why is it that the sony extended batteries come out from the bottom of the laptop(the z-axis) instead of out the back(y-axis), I kinda feel the Lenovo approach towards extended battery makes a lot more sense...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a question for the new Z owner with 128GB SSD.
I have been thinking about returning the unit in exchange for one with a larger SSD due to the drives lower capacity.
After reformatting and installing win7 Ultimate Office 2007, and some other things I deem as required Iam left with approximately 76 GB this includes BFBC2.
I have a few more games and some benchmark tools I like to install etc.
I would like to hear a few opinions on SD Capacity (SDHC) or Sony memory cards as an alternative for additional storage rather than returning it for the higher capacity SSD models and getting nailed with a 15% restock fees.
Do SD cards or the Sony mem Stocks have any short comings?

I bought my E6400 about a year ago now and never got around to upgrading the RAM from 2 GB (on 1 DIMM) to 4 GB. Which memory do I need? I am still running Vista Business 32-bit (haven't looked into the new Windows 7 yet). How much will a 2 GB stick run me these days, and does anyone have a link to the correct memory I need
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm about to order an E6400 from the dell outlet and was wondering if you all have any advice before i order.
I want to upgrade the memory and HD, but i dont know what to buy exactly.
I want 4 gb of RAM, and the quietest and most inexpensive HD that is 250 or 320gb that I can get. I assume that a 5400rpm is quieter than a 7200rpm drive. Any ideas?
Does the e6400 support ddr3 1066mhz ram?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've tried updating the drivers and updating the registry but the CD-ROM drive is still acting weird. The software from the sony support site actually made the issue worse because now the computer doesn't even recognize the drive (did the registry update). I am willing to go into the registry and try to undo the changes however I need to know where to look (so I'm not searching blindly). Further, I'm not really a fan of going into the registry and making modifications there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to upgrade the RAM on an Acer Aspire 1650. I used CPU-Z to check and it told me it is PC2 4300 DDR2 ram. All nice till this point.
I happened to have two 512MB DDR2 sticks around and tried to install them there, but no luck.
They don't FIT.
I checked 2 other laptops and they all use the same memory sticks like the spare I have and none have the same size as the Aspire in question.
Checking online, all DDR2 PC2 4200~4300 SO-DIMM sticks I can find are "200pin", but the spare stick I have is ALSO 200pin.
How can I tell if a certain memory will be compatible with this model? Does ACER use some "very very very specific" type of memory?
I'm using a old dell inspiron 6400 this isn't my main laptop anymore but i still love it so i want to fix it a year or 2 ago the laptop wouldn't boot i fixed it by taking one ram stick out of DIMM B i have 2 slots it use to have 512mb on each side one on dimm A and one on Dimm B. I want to use the second ram stick so i can use 1024 mb of ram. if i put them both in numlock 9 is on(and shining green) numclock A and Numlock down arrow are blinking(green).
and also i get a arrow at boot saying the ac adapter type cannot be determined please connect a dell 65w charager or better for optimal preformance and blah blah the battery will not charge and performance will decrease. I purchased to dell chargers with my laptop a 65w and a 90w they both give the sam error i did research on both my problems until i joined this and someone said that the cords were flexed and the wires weren't connecting. well both of my chargers have been flexed for 1-2 years is this why?
I'm using the notebook right now, waiting for a blue screen. None so far with a single 1 gig stick. I tested both stick's by themselves no errors, as soon as I use both i get bsods left and right.
Both are Pny 667 1 gig sticks, But i was cheap and since i had a stick already, i snagged another off Ebay. I guess they weren't well matched.
I'm going to test both slots and make sure there's no errors. So i guess it's a lesson not to be to cheap and just buy in pairs.
One more thing i might try is to lower the shared video memory, i noticed that some programs are reporting to much memory allocated to video.
I have a U530. I had to restore the laptop to factory configuration. However, after the restore the MMC slot and the USB slots do not work properly. The MMC slot does not work at all. The USB slots will work with newer sticks (3.0?), but not older sticks that I have (which are properly recognized by all other PCs I have running 8.1). I went to the support site and installed the "latest" drivers, but they did not resolve the problem. I tried installing the latest firmware, but it returned "LoadImage() Failed! Access Denied. Error: Update BIOS Failed! Unload Image() Failed! Invalid Parameter. InsydeH20 - Secure Flash. Error: Firmware update failed!!! Please press any key to reset system......"
I've already spent the time to reinstall all my software and really do not have the time to try another reset to factory configuration. How to get my MMC and USB slots working properly.
A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?
I want to move my 4GB Z moved to 8GB ... what is the best memory to get for this? Do you guys recommend a source?

i'm just wondering why my z's memory usage never go back down, it starts with 800mb, when i watch movie, surf the web, use software like photoshop, winrar...
it goes up to 1.6 or 1.7gb and it stays the same even when i close them all, i did the same thing on my dad's toshiba and it went back to 800mb after closing all the program, both have 3gb memory ddr3
I'm looking at purchasing an FW with only 2g of RAM and upgrading it myself cheaper than I can do buying it from Sony. The RAM from Sony is DDR2-800 PC2-6400. where to buy a couple 4g modules (2x4, 8g total)?
