View 5 Replies View RelatedJust as the title states. Dell has not given me a straight answer. When I asked in their support they said and I quote.
"We do offer upgrade packages, for windows 7 if you would like to do that it is very easy to do. I can help you with that now"
However He didn't answer my question after asking twice he gave me similar replies.
I have Hardware warranty and currently my pc is having a few hardware issues.
Would It void my warranty if I send it in with windows 7?
I'm having trouble upgrading from Vista to windows 7. I have purchased a legal copy of 32 bit windows 7 home premium, same version a Vista.
Â
I tried the update instal to preserve my programs & settings. I got an error and system reverted back to Vista.
Â
I then tried a boot, fresh install. The windows disk loaded , but I ended up with Blue Screen of Death.
Â
I have downloaded all the latest drivers for the the Extensa 4420 from Acer's site. Is there a special version required for the 4420?
I'm thinking of upgrading to windows 8 directly from vista home edition and since the drivers aren't available. So how do I go about it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a nicely loaded E6500 from the Dell Outlet. It has XP installed but came with a Vista Business licence and I am just not sure whether to or if vista is an "upgrade" or not. I've read a bunch of reviews comparing the two systems but they were all done on Vista's release and did not account for the SP1 and other fixes, those reviews seemed to give Vista a slight edge but by no means was it overwhelming. So I was wondering what peoples opinion of Vista was now that its been on the market for a while and has had some fixes applied.
Brief specs on the laptop:
2.5ghz, 3m L2C, 1066FSB
2gb ram (1 dimm) have a second 2gb dimm on order.
250gb 7200rpm HD
Nvidia Quadro 256mb vid card.
my usage:
I am not a gamer. I do some limited video, Photoshop and audio arranging. For the most part it will be a general usage computer mainly using MS Office apps, web apps and multimedia playback.
I asked Dell Tech Support to send me the install media for Vista Business 64-bit for my E6500. They said that since my System Type is "X86-based PC," I won't be able to run 64-bit. Is there no workaround? Is that really true? My refurb laptop came with XP Pro installed as a downgrade from Vista Business 32-bit. It has a T9600 processor. Does anyone have experience installing Vista Business 64-bit on a laptop like mine?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just picked up an XPS Studio 1640 with Vista Home Premium, and I'm planning to do a clean install. I think I have that figured out, but I want to upgrade to Ultimate.
Can anyone tell me if the upgrade will change anything that I have accomplished with the clean install? Will it reset my partitions or anything like that?
just looking for software/firmware (if i need any) to support the OEM dell blu-ray burner for the m1730 as i just ordered one from an online store...
just curious...i assume that vista will go to windows update to look for drivers when i install the new drive....not entirely sure. i looked on dell's web site and did not find blu-ray specific software for the m1730....
Since I might be benefiting from a 64-bit OS with regards to video encoding and rendering (aka benefiting from more than just 3gb of my 4gb installed ram, or more) I was thinking of a way to convert my 32-bit Vista Home Premium to a 64-bit one.
I came across this blog (might even belong to someone here on the forums ) and I was wondering if this is a legitimate way to acquire a 64-bit Vista using my own keys.. Anybody?
I am replacing the installed Seagate Momentus 160 gb 5400 SATA disk with a Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm SATA hard disk as I need the extra space to hold my growing itunes collection and feel the extra speed would also be welcome.
I have the original Dell installation disks (Operating System, drivers etc), the installation disks for the subsequently installed software (other than the freebies including iTunes etc available on the net) and have backed up all my critical data to an external hard drive using the vista backup facility for subsequent restoration once all the software has been installed.
I will of course keep the 160 gb drive available with all it's data intact as a secondary safeguard until I have satisfactorily completed the installation and testing of the new disk.
I have ordered this laptop recently (Spec is below), well, it's due to arrive tomorrow, and am probably going to upgrade to Vista x64, or at least give the new Windows 7 x64 a go on it. However, I'm just unsure as to whether it will be easy enough to migrate or whether I'm likely to have issues finding drivers for the relevant hardware. I hope someone here can give me some advice as attempting to scour the internet for a response for this particular model has been a nightmare, I've found the drivers page but it's all a bit confusing with seperate 64bit and then SP1 sections! ...

View 7 Replies View RelatedHave an HP DV8110us Pavilion notebook purchased in 2006. Â Running XP SP3. Â Upgrading to Windows 7 with a clean install. Â Ran the MS Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Â This notebook has the AMD Turion 64-bit chip running at 1.8 mhz. Â I have 2 GB memory. Â Looking through the Win7 options, I decided to order Win7 32-bit, since I'm only carrying 2 GB of memory. Â Win 7 64-bit seems to be happier with 4 GB. Â While the Advisor shows I have some drivers that need updating after Window 7 is installed, I just noticed that the Realtex RTL8139/810x NIC needs a new driver for 32-bit Win7, but under 64-bit Win7, the NIC is compatible.
Â
Should I have ordered the 64-bit Win7 ? Â Or should I look around for a new Realtek driver ? Â Realtex has a link to an old Vista driver that should work. Â Other searches suggest that a workable driver might be on the Win7 DVD.
I have a E1505 (6400) and I was running Vista 32 bit with 2 x 1 gb ram. I bought 2 x 2 gb ram, and it caused all sorts of problems.
I took the opportunity to upgrade to 64 bit with Windows 7 (clean install), and I reinstalled my 2 x 2 gb of RAM. It seems to be running smoothly so far... But only 3.25 gb is recognized as "usable" in Windows and my BIOS.
Does anyone know any settings I need to change or if there is a different BIOS for 64 bit OS's?
I did some googleing and found some recommendations for updating the BIOS if RAM that should be usable is not.

I have an Acer Aspire 5920G with Vista premium 32bit and was wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 (through MSDNAA) but wasn't too sure about it. I take it I can still download all the Acer eNet management etc software as well as everything else that came with my laptop to use in W7?
Has anyone else successfully upgraded their PC and got everything to work?
I have a VGN-CR290 notebook pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. I was thinking of upgrading from Vista to 7 RC1 and I was wondering if I can still re-install Vista using my VAIO recovery partition after I had made the upgrade?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've finally recieved my windows 7 disk from HP
But before I go and upgrade/install everything I have a few questions.
1. Am I able to do a clean install? Does the product key in the kit allow for me to do this?
2. How would I go about doing a clean install properly? (paranoid about mucking things up)
3. After doing a clean install, am I able to use the second disk to update the drivers, etc. or can I only use it when doing the upgrade option?
how are folks preparing to upgrade their Acer Timeline to Windows 7? Are you assembling the drivers on Acer's website, or are you content to rely, at least initially, on Windows 7 drivers? For folks who will be upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, what are you doing about the fact that there seem to be very few drivers and applications currently on Acer's support website?
I keep telling myself that Acer is going to release something, anything, in the next few days giving customers at least some guidance and help on how to get their Timelines fully compatible with Windows 7, but those are probably pipe dreams. So... as folks upgrade to Windows 7 over the coming weeks, it might be helpful to post experiences--good and, in particular, bad--for the benefit of the community.
I own a Acer 7545g and in October I ordered my Windows 7 and yesterday it finally arrived from Mentor Media.
So I followed the step by step instructions and installed Windows 7 with out any problems and added the drivers.
How ever in device manager next to HD4570 there is a (!) so I think my Laptop was only using the HD3200 card.
I tried getting the drivers from ACER Driver webpage and from ATI radeon and it will not work.
Has any one else having this problem? Any one knows if ACER/ATI plans to release a driver to fix this or have ACER just raped me?
I have now reverted to using Vista Ultimate x32 and every works perfectly, but I would like to use Windows 7

View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a laptop (Envy, 17-jo11nr, PN: E0K87UA#ABA) and tried upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. It wouldn't install and went back to Windows 8. This was a few months ago, and I am wondering if it is safe to try upgrading again. I checked my product number on the page about Windows 8.1 and it said my computer hasn't been tested for 8.1. I would very much like to upgrade, but I don't want to ruin my pc.
