Dell :: FINAL SOLUTION: Studio 15 Media Sensitive Button
Oct 20, 2009
Like you from the first day I had my hands on my Dell Studio 1535 I have the problem with sensitive buttons, eject the cd light stays lit,
the light stays lit lower volume and not permitted me to walk up or down the volume or when the team suspended him again and I fastened to light one of those lights, etc etc.
I changed the panel of sensitive buttons 2 times, thinking the problem was that but never fix the problem .....

The touch sensitive eject button on my new Studio 15 laptop appears to be stuck on. When I reboot the laptop, the media control lights flash back and forth as normal. However, the CD drive immediately ejects and the eject button light stays permanently on. This all happens the second the laptop comes on - long before it boots into Vista. This makes me suspect a hardware rather than software issue.
None of the other touch sensitive media controls work.
I've tried cleaning the button, checking for dirt under and on the button and rebooting the laptop. I also rested it overnight.
I only got the laptop on Friday.

I'm new here, so I apologize if I'm not doing this right or if this has been addressed.
I recieved a new Studio 1535 for Christmas. It was purchased on Thanksgiving Day so its past the 21 days. Everything was working great, but all of a sudden, randomly the eject button started lighting up and trying to eject a cd.
This did it for a little while, my sister has a MAC and says her's does the same thing. It was my first time with a slot loading cd drive..so I took her word for it.
Then it kept happening. Next, the volume button would light up..raise the volume up all the way on the screen and stay there. I would manually try to lower it, and it wouldn't let me

I remember reading a thread similar to this a while back but am unable to find it. The fellow had his laptop replaced several times due to the media buttons being too dim when pressed.
I am having the same problem. How bright are your media buttons when you press them? I can barely see them unless I'm right on top of them purposely trying to see what I've pressed.
Is there any way to adjust the brightness of these or am I out of luck? I'm not really in the mood to have the laptop replaced as university classes are about to start back up and I can't be without it.

I just got my SXPS 13 in the mail today, and it seems that the touch sensative buttons do not work,
I've read on the forum and others of the issue and a manual reset fixes the issues, or upgrading the win7 eliminates the problem.
P.S. I bought the SXPS without the leather accent so if anyone wants to see some pics i can snap a couple

how the media buttons stop working after a resume and how the eject button stays on.
i have been testing something and would like others to try this out. follow me here:
i notice the eject button light stays on when i close the lid and then pull the usb cable out (connected to a Dell 24" widescreen with usb port which connects: 2 mouse and 2 printers and a external drive).
*IF* i disconnect the usb first and wait for the full disconnect sound and THEN close lid, the eject button doesn't light up.
i'm thinking... and it could be completely wong here but the eject button might have something to do with shut down and boot up of usb devices and is going though some sort of a systems check? why? i dunno. it's been rather sporatic but i head to class 4x's a week and i shut down differently and i have experienced different results. testing a few things out.

Basically I bought a Dell Inspirion 1525 with Vista, Downgraded to XP, had to change the Hard drive to IDA for the system to recognise XP. Been running fine then I pressed the MD button by mistake thinking it was the power button, it gets as far as 'Building you MD files' then says ''DMD cannot access your hard drive. This maybe because you have enabled Microsoft Bit Locker (Drive Encryption)'' etc etc. Now i'm hoping that means it hasn't wiped my HD cos i've read a load of people who've had problems with that button wiping everything out but i think it can't recognise my HD cos I switched it to IDA.
Anyways whenever I press the power button now it keeps loading MD and doing the same cycle and I can't load XP at all, tried loading it in safe mode and it crashes. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I can't get windows on at all and I really don't care about MD, infact when I can access windows again i'll be researching how to deactivate the MD button so this doesn't happen again unless someone can provide that info aswell

Durring this i got the wifi button to work for about 5 seconds im not sure what i did but it still dosent work. I even tried another media bar cover from a working dv7 still no luck. So does anyone know where my problem might be or do i have to send this laptop into hp?

I have a Vostro 1700 with Vista installed. When I got it I didn't want the Dell Mediadirect softare on there so reinstalled with those partitions removed and just Vista on there.
I also tried installing Windows XP to see how that worked on it; XP installed fine and worked well, but I had the problem that if I touched the Media Direct button it could knacker up the whole XP installation. Obviously,
I couldn't resist trying, and low and behold, when I pressed the button my XP installation was corrupted! (my original thread on it was here - New Vostro 1700 laptop! Why are there four partitions, and can I get rid of them?!)
I've really not liked Vista, and do want to get Windows 7 on the Vostro, but what I want to make sure before I pay out for Windows 7 is that I'm not going to have the same problem with that damn Media Direct button .....

I have recently purchased a Dell Studio 14 laptop with Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB 5400 rpm HDD. I installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 immediately after purchasing it.
I am aware of the Load_cycle_count issue and would like to fix it. But with so many threads on the topic available on the net, I am a bit confused.
Has anyone applied the fix on the Studio Laptop with the above HDD yet? If yes, can anyone please share their experiences/caveats etc. so that I can confidently go ahead and apply the fix .....

I upgraded the OS to Windows 7 professional x64 several months ago, at that time sony had not provided the drivers yet,
but still Win7 recognized most of the devices and I've tried to install the drivers for other OS,
most the installations were incomplete but somehow some of the multi-media buttons worked except for the AV MODE button

I have a final revision pre-configured VGN-SZ780DN (Canadian model Made in Japan). It comes with Vista Business 32bit RTM (not even SP1). I was shocked this morning to check on the eSupport Canada website and find out that my model is not supported by Sony for a Windows 7 upgrade!?! I mean, I thought the earlier SZ models probably wouldn't but I figured that for sure the final line of SZs would be as they are pretty recent, as I only brought mine on clearence for a real good price this year in March for $1100 CDN.
So, if I get Windows 7, I just want to make sure that everything works 100% and I will do the simplest straightest upgrade possible. Windows Vista Business RTM 32bit upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 32bit.
I already have my computer flashed with the latest BIOS and Bluetooth firmware from the eSupport site. Now, if I reformat my computer to ensure that it is all clean with the Sony recovery, remove crap like Norton 360, Google toolbar, Spybot Search and Destroy, install ALL the latest driver and software updates from the eSupport site for Vista then upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 32bit, how will things be?

I have just installed the final version of Windows 8.1. The thing I've moserly been waiting for is Miracast.
As for now when I search for wireless displays (Add new device menu) it doesn't appear to find my TV. (An unpaired Android device can)
I'm thinking about driver issues with 8.1..

I can still change the volume, but that little graphic that pops up when you turn it up/down is no longer there, making it hard for me to see what the volume is.
Second, and more importantly, the "eject" button no longer works. I have to manually goto the disk drive, right click, and click eject............

I just got my Studio 15 last week and love this notebook! On previous Inspiron notebooks if you pressed one of the media buttons while the system was off, it would then do a quick boot to a Media Direct partition where you could play movies and music and also view photos. However, on my studio, when I press the media direct botton while the notebook is off, it changes the splash screen during POST to a Media Direct splash screen but then boots into the OS, where I have to log in, and then the Media Diract app launches. This was a big dissapointment for me. Is anyone else seeing this? I was hoping that maybe I got a bad factory install, but if others are seeing this then I guess Dell has done away with the hidden Media Direct partition.

I've had my Dell Studio 15 (1535) for nearly a year now, problem free. But last night, my touchpad moving extremely choppy,
and my CPU/RAM meters (on Vista) were at nearly 50%, sometimes even spiking higher; I've never seen them that high before.
Here's what was going on when it happened. I was using Facebook Chat, which I don't believe was the problem, but what I believe started it was when i tried to turn up the volume using the touch sensitive media keys at the top, and hit play on iTunes. When i went to turn the volume up,
it froze for about 30 seconds, and then turned the volume all the way up, and now none of my media keys work, my keyboard barely works, and my touchpad/mouse buttons don't work at all!

This is a pretty nice glitch, even if it is completely accidental.
So I was powering on my laptop just a few minutes ago, and during boot, the progress bar was going slower than usual and stopped at one point, about 3/4 of the way through. So, I wondered what was going on, and tapped the media buttons to see if the whole thing was locked up, and they all lit up.
However, they never actually turned off. Now, I'm booted into Windows and everything's working normally, but the buttons are still lit! And the best part is, they function like normal when pressed!
I wish there were a way to set this up to work like that all the time...the buttons are impossible to see in the dark.
Here's a pic. Sorry for the cell phone camera quality, but you can still see that all the buttons are lit up, along with the Wifi light on the far right:
So, does anyone know of a way I can get it to do this every time without an unusually slow boot?

The touch sensitive media buttons above the keyboard on my Studio XPS 1647 stopped working the other day. When I tried to turn my laptop back on the computer beeped a few times and the screen flashed a few solid colors and then went black. I had to turn the laptop off and on again and it booted as normal except the media buttons stopped working. They do not light up or respond to touch.
I have restarted the laptop, updated the Dell QuickSet drivers and the BIOS and nothing has fixed it. According to this post the media buttons need to be replaced. How can I do that and where can I buy the parts needed?

just got my Studio's palm rest replaced today since the touchpad freaked out after I accidentally spilled water on it, thank God for complete warranty.
However, the replacement palm rest seems to have the pattern on which came with my old Studio, the graphite pattern. Here are some before and after pics, and some pics showing what happens when the media panel does the all buttons stay lit glitch.
This an example of the later palm rests. However, I had this on my Studio before the palm rest change because I received a replacement which had the newer palm rest. So, this is the before picture .....
