I realize re-installing XP is my next bet but I can't boot to USB. maybe the Solid State HD DEAD?
my laptop is HP 6107 TX and i have an integrated webcam, which worked the first few days after I bought it, but after that the webcam screen just shows plain black. But the strange thing is if I bring a luminous object, like a phone screen near it it shows a green image of the phone on the screen :
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq 3000 Laptop, it's almost 2.4 Years old now, over the period of time I dint faced any issues with my Machine.it all started yesterday.
I was watching a movie on my Laptop yesterday, after sometime the screen froze up but the movie was playing as I was able to hear whats going in the movie.
Later I tried restarting the machine, what i get is the machine boots up properly, but the screen doesnt display anything thing, it shows up a blank white screen, sometime when the windows XP loading picture comes up the screen shows light distorted colors but again goes white blank.
I did approached a local vendor for that but he says that we need to replace on the motherboard, I was not much convinced over his explanation over the issue.
I would like to know your views on what might be the problem with my Machine.
I am going to try over connecting an external monitor and see if LCD is the problem, but I would like to know more what all possible options are there which might be affecting my machine and how much would it cost me in the worst possible case.
I just bought an inspiron 17 r se, specs say memory at 1600 mhz. however when i ran speecy the memory only shows a speed of 798 mhz... what gives here ??

the driver driver struck in infinite loop.I tried running the PSA (Pre-boot System Assessment) diagnostics and check if there is any problem with the video card by tapping F12 key.It passes without any errors and i am able to boot the system to windows screen. I also to uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers to fix the problem but of no use.Main Problem is ATI X 1300 graphics which is going in infinite loop and Blue Screen.
My Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop (which came with windows 8) was working fine yesterday but whenever I try to turn it on today it shows the Dell logo briefly then goes to a black screen and remains like that. The F12 key works, but I can't change any settings as it will only let me highlight the diagnostics option. I've run diagnostics and recieved no error reports. Neither the F2 or F8 keys work, so I can't access BIOS or start in safe mode. I've tried removing the battery and unplugging the power.

If I start up windows normally, it will think and then shows a window that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently run into a problem, when I wanted to install my ANNO 1404 game, I inserted the disc into my laptop, but it shows no data, it simply looks to be empty. So I tried it in my desktop PC and there there is everything OK, disc is full, game can be installed. I left it be and after few days I wanted to see a movie, but after inserting the movie DVD into my laptop, I received this error in WMP: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. In some cases, you can resolve the problem by updating the device driver for your video card." So I'm starting to think my DVD driver is somehow "wrongly set" or something like that. What can I do about it?
My OS is W7 Professional (on desktop too, so OS is not the issue), my laptop is Inspiron 15R SE 7520. Both DVDs (game and movie) are original, no stealing here.
I have two Inspiron 17R 5720, identical?, except bios in one only shows Sata options ATA and AHCI. The other show all Sata options ATA, AHCI, and Intel Rapid Start. Both are running Bios A14.
What can be changed to make both display all three Sata options?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.
My Inspiron 5521 warranty has expired a month back and now suddenly my laptop shows a message saying your battery has encountered a permanent damage during startup...The battery bar shows the mesage plugged in , not charging message and when i disconnect the ac power adapter my laptop shuts down...I tried updating my BIOS to A12 but it did not work...What is the problem here..Do Dell companies manufacture products which last only upto the warranty period or what??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an older Inspiron 6400 (looks like the 1505) that isn't charging the battery. The bios indicates that the battery is charging, and that it is performing normally. There isn't a red flashing battery indicator, but when the laptop is powered on there isn't any "green light" indication of the battery, either. The AC adapter performs normally ( Charger is a PA10 (90watt) and it works fine on my D800, and charges that battery normally).
What I don't understand is why the BIOS indicates the battery is charging and that the battery is performing normally. However, when I have the system up and running there isn't a green battery indicator light on the button strip. Let me clarify that statement. During the initial boot phase of start-up there is the green indicator light on the button strip, but as the OS finishes loading this light goes out and the battery doesn't charge.
Could this be caused by a faulty Bios update, or is it something with the battery charging circuit of the motherboard? The laptop operates normally when using the AC adapter, just no indication of the battery charging when the OS is fully loaded. OS is Windows XP Pro (SP3).
I've dell Inspiron N5110 and I'm using it since past 3 and half years. In 2013, base of the laptop was broken and I had to replace it with a new one though there was no problem in hardware at all. Soon after the dell representative installed the new base and left my house I was facing a weird problem. When I power on the laptop, my screen gives a mild flash but does not start (6 out of 10 times, not always), but I can hear windows start up sound in the back ground. I use to press power button again to lock or stand by the laptop and then move my mouse. After performing this I can see the screen glows and log on screen shows up.
I was using my laptop like this for past 1.5 years as pressing a power button was no big deal. Today on the eve of new year, I saw my trick does not work any more. I was not able to start my screen even after repetitive attempts. But I remember I used it last night, display was really fine.
My Dell inspiron 6400 has a battery that works amazingly but recently, I noticed a change in the behaviour. Anytime I switch the laptop on, the LED battery indicator shows me red meaning something is wrong even when the battery is fully charged. The battery charges normally even when I intentionally drain out the power and try charging it again. This is just to make sure that the battery charges fine. Infact, in windows, it shows me that the computer is on AC power even when it is not plugged into an AC outlet.
The BIOS shows "No battery installed" and windows tells me the same. Summarily, everything is fine except for the LED indicator showing Red and the BIOS telling me that no battery is installed.
i own a dell Inspiron 9400 it did have 2gb 533mhz and scored 4.5 in vista. I have just upgraded to 4gb 667mhz and the score is still 4.5? The BIOS shows 4gb at 667mhz Dual, and in vista only 3.3gb of ram(know about only seeing 3.3gb in vista).
Not that im into the vista scores but is this normal or is something wrong here with my ram or laptop? As it should improve when i done this up grade.
My display is not working on my Inspiron 5160. The image is there but very faint. When hooked to an external monitor everything displays properly on the external monitor.
What I am leaning towards is to first replace the LCD inverter. Not sure if I would spend the money on a whole new display for this old of a laptop.
It had been having a over heating problem before the display went out. I took the cooling fan out and cleaned out all the dust mat from the fins that were blocked. Now the fan seems to be keeping it cool, but the display did not come back.
I removed everything - but in the process - the camera board - located behind the bezel - broke. I figured that the screen should still work - until a camera can be bought - but it does not. It lights up a bit: dim black - but it will not show a picture.
Do any of yo know - if there could be another cause: cables not not plugged in right - etc? I just don't see how the camera board could be the cause since it's just an extra device.
There are two white and black connectors - under the keyboard - that are part of the lid - which I plugged in. There's also the power plug for the screen (also under the keyboard) and that's plugged in. The only thing I can think of is the camera board. Let me know if I'm missing something - though - because - if so - I'll just do something to fix it now.
I have an XPS m1530 with the built-in webcam along the top of the screen. When running XP Pro on this laptop I can see a USB device called "Laptop Integrated Webcam" in Windows Explorer, and when I click on that device the camera instantly comes up on my screen

View 3 Replies View RelatedLatitude E6410, changed a bad HD for a new one. Installed windows 7. Besides having issues with WIFI and USB drivers, I cannot do a windows update, it shows a big red X, message I get is
" Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You many need to restart your computer"
I updated the bios, and rebooted like 15 times.
My Venue 11 charging with original 23w charger shows Alert on boot.
A 3w AC poweradapter has been detected, wich is less than the recommended Latitude xx 23W AC adapter originally shipped. etc ...
i turned on my laptop and the screen had a horizontal line splitting into mirror images. it also has monochromatic horizontal lines all over the display. sometimes it will boot windows, sometimes it wont. i get an error saying windows cannot start do i want to start windows repair. it usually doesn't work and i end up going with the factory image restore.
i've gotten back to running windows and i've updated drivers, updated the bios, and nothing seems to stick. i've had it working perfectly (perfect display on the screen), but it seems after i did a windows update and it rebooted that it stopped working again. split screen, lines, the works.
i took apart the lcd screen to ensure all the cables were attached and they seem to be ok. i hooked it up to an external monitor and i didn't get the split screen mirror image, but i did get the monochromatic horizontal lines over the display. i can still use windows and the internet and everything.. it's just really hard on the eyes.
also, if it's the video card i know that most are integrated into the motherboard. mine is the nvidia geforce 8400m gs.. please tell me i can replace these independently.
