I've had this laptop for the best part of two months now and it has been excellent up to now. However, it has now shut down completely 4 times within the same day - with absolutely no warning. It doesn't feel as if it has overheated but I'm only touching the outer shell.
View 13 RepliesIt's not like normal fan working when computer gets cooler stops, when it's heating up starts working. It happened 7 days ago. And that never happened since then. But I'm still wondering why it's happened. My laptop is just a few days old. I was checking my air vent and suspiciously was being silent. After keep checking 5 to 10 min the fan still wasn't not working. And then I started running heavy software like video converting program. CPU was working 100% when I load this, fan still was not working laptop bottom was getting heated up. Then decided to check my cpu temp and installed everest ultimate edition. Everest doesn't recognize both cpu temp and fan.
I restarted laptop because my laptop was getting hotter. And when I restart it, laptop fan started working normally. CPU temp, fan speed are recognized in everest software. After I noticed that in system cooling policy settings was in passive mode on battery. Why it's happened? I doubt it's cord unplugged or sth. Cause software couldn''t detect both cpu temp and fan. Remember, after I restarted software detected the fan and temp, all fan thing go back to normal. And if it was loose connection why it's worked back again when I restarted and still working. I'm not able to give it back.
I have an Inspiron 15R 5521 that intermittently restarts at various times. It doesn't seem to matter whether I am working in an MS Office Application or Firefox, IE, Chrome at least as far as noticing a pattern.
I have tried to run the diagnostic tests on the Dell Support site numerous times and keep getting the message "A problem has been detected, please try again" at the third step in the Diagnostic test process, 'Installing my Dell client'.
My Dell N5110 has started not stutting down completely although it looks like it has shut down the power light is still on and I have to press the power light for about 10 sec to get it to go off. Also if I am working on the laptop and just shut the lid it won't wake up when I open the lid Have tried pushing every button but nothing happens Have to press the power button to shut down and then restart. I have changed all the power settings many times but nothing fixes the problem.

After that the charger is no more working, And i had to order a new one & everything went great also .
A weak ago, It started to show a battery failure " Battery not detected " error message . But it's still running with Power Adapter .
The serious problem is that the computer started to shutdown randomly .....
My HP Pavilion DV6 6120us freezes during shut down. Windows looks like it goes through the shut down process and the screen goes black but the mousepad border light stays on and the wifi (f12) button goes orange. The only way to completely shut it down is to hold the power button for a few seconds. Once I start it up again, it says Windows wasn't shut down properly. After a few days of this, now the laptop battery isn't being detected.
I went into the BIOS and run the onboard memory test and hard drive test but both passed. I haven't done a reinstall of the Windows yet but with the battery issue now I am thinking it could be the motherboard but I'm hoping it's something else as it's out of warranty. I'm running Windows 7 Home SP1 64-bit edition.
I have an Aspire M5-581T. In March of 2014, the battery suddenly stopped working. It would not charge, the unit would not boot from the battery, and if I unplugged the computer from the AC outlet it shut down completely.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Inspiron 5521 with ubuntu pre-installed, I shifted it to windows 7 OS and also updated the BIOS in the driver installing process,Before I updated the BIOS my Brightness was working fine meaning I can low the it down while on battery and use high settings on AC mode but after I updated the BIOS I could not do this feature any more....when I go to Power Options to adjust it manually the Scroll bar there doesn't do a thing, even if I low it down or take it to full settings.

Once in a while it detects but then goes off again. I had taken it to a Dell store where they tried replacing the battery as the diagnostics showed a battery problem, but changing the battery also did not work. The same happens even in case I out the laptop to sleep or hibernate.

I was surfing internet on my dell inspiron 5521 an battery level was around 72% it suddenly goes off. It was not a turn off or windows error. I feel it was something from inside hardware because it is not turning on by pushing on button and tried to charge him but charging light did not on but adapter light was on that means adapter is fine. I have removed the battery and puts it back but no power for laptop. There is not a error soon total no power.

When I try to boot it, it starts to boot (audibly you can hear the internal systems starting to go) but the screen stays black and after about 5 seconds, it starts beeping. It beeps continuously approximately once every 2-2.5 seconds, and I have counted up to about 30 beeps (it didn't stop beeping, it was just doing my head in).
It started about six months ago, doing it once when I tried to boot it, but pulling the battery fixed it. However, it got progressively worse until one night it simply wouldn't boot at all. A short-term fix was to mash F4 or F9 once the power button was pressed, but now even that doesn't work. I think it might be something in the boot sequence that causes it to fail...

Can he downgrade the OS to Windows 7(64Bit)? as he has some issues with certain software, which according to the developers won't work on Windows 8. Will the warranty be void if the system is formatted and Windows 7 is installed. Is there any option to go in for a dual boot with Windows 8 and Windows 7. As per the support center, they do not recommend dual booting on a Windows 8 system.

I removed its harddrive (Western Digital, 1 TB) from my laptop to connectit to my desktop with 2 harddrives (one for system (Windows 7, 64 bit); the otherfor data (2 TB)), but never started the installed system to prevent the systemfrom writing some system information into the Inspiron disk.Instead I inserted a Windows PE CD embedded with Acronis True Image 2013.I chose "Disk Backup". The Inspiron harddrive had 6 partitions.The destination drive (where the image created was to be saved) was the 2-TB data disk.Clicked "Finish" and writing Partition 1...done, 2...ok, .... 6 ok and"Backup Process Failed!" at the final stage.
The final stage seems to be a partition layout.BTW the Acronis backup system has an option "Ignore Errors" (force complete).I gave it a try too, but the image created was incomplete with only 4 partitions.Macrium Rescue Disk is a similar one but with no ignore error option.I also tried this and failed at the final stage. No image created.The error message was "Unable to read from disk".Both the Inspiron disk and the destination drive happened to be Western Digital ones.I tried Western Digital Lifeguard checker on each and found no bad sectors.
I've had a problem with my LCD for a while now. For around six months the screen sometimes turns black unless it is at a particular degree to the keyboard. For example, at 90 degrees there is a good chance that the screen will flicker and will mostly be black. More than 90 usually works.
Couple days ago I turned my laptop off and before it shut down left the room. When I came back after 15 minutes I heard the beeping sound. I turned the laptop off immediately. After that, every time I turn on laptop, nothing happens apart from beeping. I tried 'D' and then turn on. Also f12. Nothing changes, screen stays black. I also removed battery and pressed on turn on in order to get rid of excess charge.
I'm currently in the middle of attempting to downgrade from Windows 8 to 7, however during the initial reboot from the Windows 7 dvd, I would get the starting windows screen, then it would freeze up.

The laptop had not over been over heated, I checked straight after it crashed.
