Dell Inspiron N5110 :: Doesn't Completely Shut Down And Won't Wake Up After Closing Lid
Apr 5, 2013
My Dell N5110 has started not stutting down completely although it looks like it has shut down the power light is still on and I have to press the power light for about 10 sec to get it to go off. Also if I am working on the laptop and just shut the lid it won't wake up when I open the lid Have tried pushing every button but nothing happens Have to press the power button to shut down and then restart. I have changed all the power settings many times but nothing fixes the problem.
I've had this laptop for the best part of two months now and it has been excellent up to now. However, it has now shut down completely 4 times within the same day - with absolutely no warning. It doesn't feel as if it has overheated but I'm only touching the outer shell.
For the last week i have noticed there is something wrong with my laptop. Every night i turn it off and in the morning it doesn't turn on at all its like the power button is broken or something. After 10 minutes of removing and putting the battery in( same with AC adapter) it finally starts without the battery only with the adapter plugged in. Until this morning of course - now it looks like its completely dead...
I have already done hard resets with 45 seconds holding the power button. Also the LED light on the charger is glowing just perfect so its not a problem with the adapter. I use my laptop for work and i have very important things there ...
My laptop just shut down on me out of nowhere. The battery wasn't low, in fact it had just finished charging. It wouldn't turn back on until I plugged it back in and tried. The battery is at 86%, not charging. The battery indicator light flashes red 4 times, then white then off.
It can now only run when it is plugged in. I can start my laptop and it runs fine while plugged in but as soon as it is unplugged, it shuts off.
I assume this is a hardware issue and what caused it. Nonetheless, I used the diagnostic tools provided and found no issue and tried a system restore to no avail.
My laptop is a few weeks out of warranty (classic)...
I have a very confusing issue with my Dell Inspiron N5110 Core i5 laptop. Sometimes when I try to switch it on, it doesn't do anything at all. I tried to talk the battery and the AC adapter out, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, put the battery and the AC adapter back in but nothing at all happens. No lights are showing up at all on it even when i'm having the AC adapter however i am sure that the adapter is fine.
What confuses me that when i leave it for a day or two and try again, it just works fine. It is about 7 months old and it came up with Windows 7 home edition on it.
I bought a dell inspiron n5110 laptop just a couple of days back. the problem is I am not able to scroll on the touchpad. it does not even have a mark on it to tell you the area you can use for scrolling. I have tried uninstalling and installing the drivers but its not working.
When I close the lid to my laptop it doesn't sleep. I did check the power settings and it is set to when the lid closes the computer goes to sleep. I've tried changing it to shutdown when the lid closes, but it doesn't even shutdown. I can still see the power light on when the lid is closed and I can still here my computer running. Everything was working fine, then it stopped working a couple of days ago.
My HP Pavilion DV6 6120us freezes during shut down. Windows looks like it goes through the shut down process and the screen goes black but the mousepad border light stays on and the wifi (f12) button goes orange. The only way to completely shut it down is to hold the power button for a few seconds. Once I start it up again, it says Windows wasn't shut down properly. After a few days of this, now the laptop battery isn't being detected.
I went into the BIOS and run the onboard memory test and hard drive test but both passed. I haven't done a reinstall of the Windows yet but with the battery issue now I am thinking it could be the motherboard but I'm hoping it's something else as it's out of warranty. I'm running Windows 7 Home SP1 64-bit edition.
my laptop was working fine until an hour ago but suddenly the screen went white and so i turned it off. after waiting for sometime, i turned it on again but the screen is blank and the laptop makes 3distinctive beeps and repeats them until i turn it off again.
I can't turn off my laptop. Widnows shuts down, the hard drive LED doesn't blink, just the power LED and I can hear the fan from time to time and it just hangs there. So, all I can do is hold the power button and force it to shut down. Even more weird is the fact that I can restart the computer. This started about a month ago and I've tried everything I could think of... to no avail. Here's my system info:
Computer Type ACPI x64-based PC (Mobile) Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate OS Service Pack Service Pack 1
CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-2330M, 2200 MHz (22 x 100) Motherboard Name Dell Inspiron N5110
Motherboard Chipset Intel Cougar Point HM67, Intel Sandy Bridge System Memory 8098 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)
Video Adapter Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (2108 MB) Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M (1048384 KB)
Here's what I did:
1) I suspected a Windows update, so I tried to restore to a previous point. 2) Didn't want to reinstall Windows, so I tried to boot from the Windows CD and shut it down from there. 3) I tried to let it hang after the shutdown. This brought up a BSOD two times. It was DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. 4) Then I started suspecting the BIOS. Updated to A13 (the latest version for my model) 5) Resetting the BIOS to default settings. 6) Updated all drivers to the latest. 7) Restored the MBR. (Windows repair said that it couldn't find my Windows installation, even though I was able to boot) 8) Tried to shut down without the battery. 9) Tried to shut down without the power adapter. 10) Ran all Dell support center tests. The short ones, though. No problems were found.
My laptop is still under warranty, so I won't open it, but I'd like to know that I have tried everything before I contact the support center. My job is on my laptop. I don't have a PC, so if I take it to support, I won't be able to work.
Okay...so, a while back, my computer had a problem where the computer would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." I fixed this by getting a new adapter. ([URL]...)
While the charging problem is fixed, whenever I plug my computer in with this adapter, the mouse becomes erratic. I can do basic navigation, then the cursor flips out and flies over what I'm about to click, so aiming for anything is like running on ice. I read a few things online as to what this is, and wound up updating my mouse driver and BIOS, even "releasing flea power" (Either I did it wrong or it didn't work) This has done nothing for this problem. I don't want to have to replace this computer. This is a Dell Inspiron N5110
I'm using Dell Inspiron N5110 and recently did fan cleaning on my laptop. Once I've completed the fan cleaning, my laptop doesn't detect my charger. No error message appears and my laptop only can be switched on by using battery power.
I mentioned in the subject my laptop won't start. I checked forums here and tried the offered solutions but nothing. My AC works fine, green light turns on when I plug it, and stays the same when I plug it to laptop. Laptop doesn't make any sounds...my led for battery on laptop doesn't work when I plug it on AC.
I have an Aspire M5-581T. In March of 2014, the battery suddenly stopped working. It would not charge, the unit would not boot from the battery, and if I unplugged the computer from the AC outlet it shut down completely.
Sometimes (not everytime, seems random) my laptop won't wake up after being put to sleep by closing the lid.
usually, I just have to tap the space bar a couple of times, and it wakes right up, but other times, there isn't anything that will wake it up ,and I have to shut it down (hold the power button for 4-5 secs) and restart it...
I've just purshased a new Acer Aspire E5-771 (IGP, not Nvidia).
When I get into deep sleep, it can wake-up normally. I mean that after pressing power button and booting Windows, it comes back to my opened session.
But wen I get in simple sleep (close the lid or press Alt+F4), it cannot wake up. Let me be precise. Wen it is in simple sleep, the orange LED is blinking. If I open the lid, nothing happens. If I press a keystroke, the LED becomes quickly blue and then switches off (1/10 second). No noise, no image. Nothing else happen. I have to press power button to switch on the computer, but I lose my session and have to boot all of Windows.
It does this from the beginning, even with my updated drivers and with the last 1.15 BIOS.
It is a XPS 15 9530 and when set to sleep when the lid is closed the unit will not wake when the lid is opened. If I then press the power button it lights up and I hear a faint sound for about 20 sec (fan, disk, nothing weird) and then the sound stops. I never see anything on the screen. If I press the power button, again, then it says the PC wasn't shutdown correctly. Next, it runs some diagnostics for about 10 seconds and then it starts normally.
I got a new T440s about 2 weeks ago and sometimes it doesn't wake up after it goes into sleep mode. It gets stuck on a black screen and the mouse cursor is visible, but moving the mouse or pressing keys on the keyboard fails to wake it up. When this happens, I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and hybrid sleep is off. I'm just really confused because sometimes it wakes up perfectly and sometimes it doesn't.
Having a puzzling time with my 8930G. Just recently when I shut the system down it goes through the shut-down process as normal. Yet as it shuts down and the screen goes blank, the power button remaims lit as does the CineDash. The laptop has turned itself off, yet these two remain lit?
I had to uninstall the current driver. After this it auto installed the old ati driver.
I uninstalled this one as well leaving me with the bare bones driver that comes with windows. After installing the modded driver again and restarting it began to work again................................................
I own a Dell Inspiron 3521, and I'd been having an issue with apps not opening and closing when I do try. I went to fix this error. That's when I made a grave mistake. Somewhere along the line of me trying to fix it, I messed with something I shouldn't have and when I finished with my task, I was told to restart the computer to activate the settings. After I turned it back on it seemed normal up to the point after I saw the dell logo. It went black. At first I made the assumption that since I changed settings that it was still trying to configure them. But soon after, I saw my mouse and a little signal flash in the bottom left of my screen. So I checked around and found out that I needed to reinstall windows with disc or USB. But I don't have access to either of those.
I am having dell inspiron N4010 for past 2 years now suddenly there s some crackling sound while closing the lid.i cant find any dust or anything in that area.
Today i bought an Inspiron 5547 and i have an issue when closing and opening the lid. The issue is get screen artifacts like if were pressing the screen with my finger. Is this normal?
new dell inspion 3421 running windows 7,64 bit. my laptop does not shut down completely. When I shut it down, it logs off screen goes black and still the fan is running and the front power light LED is on. I have to long press to power button to completely turn it off.
The same happens even in case I out the laptop to sleep or hibernate.
my Dell inspiron 15R N5010 crashed on me, I had no previous warning that this was going to happen, when it crashed I was just watching a movie and not using up much CPU power. The laptop had not over been over heated, I checked straight after it crashed. It now is completely unresponsive i've tried using different chargers, batteries and I have also checked the internal hardware and everything seems to be intact, I assume at the moment it is a motherboard malfunction.
