Windows 8. I recently got an Inspiron 15z touchcreen ultrabook with windows 8.
Often I'll be on the net/playing a game/composing an email/pretty much anything and my mouse will disappear and I can't make it come back. I can still use the touchscreen; but no matter of swiping or clicking the touchpad makes the mouse come back.
I was using my inspiron 1545 the other night and it was charging the battery, then i heard a pop from the left hand side of the keyboard. At this point i noticed that the battery icon no longer had the plug icon on top showing it was charging. I then looked at my power adapter and noticed the blue light was not on on the brick.
Finding this I unplugged the brick and then plugged it back in..POP from the laptop again....and the blue light on the brick went off again. This happens everytime.
So I am guessing there is something wrong in the laptop and the brick turns off maybe activating its short circuit mode protect. Obviously, this means I can not charge the battery.
If i remove the battery and try to run it on mains adapter it POPs as soon as you plug it in and the laptop won;t boot as it has no power...
My touchpad driver keeps disappearing and its the only way I can disable the touchpad - I much prefer to use the mouse and I am a touch typist so the touchpad is a nuisance. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to find a win 8 touchpad driver or other way of disabling the touchpad - win 8 even on a standard laptop is magic and has improved my older laptop no end but its now annoying me due the limitation of drivers and the fact that the only way one can disable the pad is via the driver settings?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an inspiron laptop. been working fine now all of a sudden the circle icon keeps flashing in the background it doesn't go out. Ran norton antivirus didn't catch anything. checked register disks everything ok. the computer is working fine except it just keeps flashing off and on again.
I tried rebooting removing battery nothing works. the only msg i received was a box that said wireless configuration OLE initialization failed, make sure that the OLE libraries the correct version. I am running windows home premiun 7.
I've noticed that my battery meter/AC power icon has disappeared from my system tray. I'm not sure how to make it reappear. I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place. The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop. Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon.How do I get it to reappear? Is the icon part of the Dell Quickset program/software? I'm not sure. I have an Inspiron 1520.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPurchased an upgrade for my Windows license from 8.1 to 8.1 Pro on Sunday in the US (I had done the update to 8.1 from Win 8.0 months ago without issue). Since that time, my Inspiron 15R (5537, Mid 2013, non-touch screen) has stopped charging...although the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging'. I am using the OEM charger and battery initially purchased with the laptop. Currently in Canada (just in case that makes some crazy software difference...plugs/power is the same I think).
I've taken the following steps:
1. I tried battery diagnostics on Dell site. Said the battery is fine.
2. Ran full diagnostics at boot on startup. Those say in Current/High/Low columns:
Primary Battery Charge: 5% (now actually 4%); Primary Battery Health: 86%; Primary Battery Voltage: 11106 mV/11106mV/11106mv; Primary Battery Current Flow: 0mA/0 mA/ 0 mA; AC adapter: 65 watt adapter/na/na
-On separate page, diagnostics continued:
Primary Battery : Charge Cycles=159; Temperature=26C, Voltage=1106mV; Current=0mA; Remaining Capacity=0.271Ah; FullCapacity=5.184Ah; BatteryHealth=86%; ManufactureDate=6/8/2013; Serial Number=b99
Charger: ChargerState=Installed.
3. Checked and rechecked physical connections, took battery in/out and used alternate plugs (although usual light ring glowing around plug to computer and icon says charging, took it out and replugged into computer, wall, and at the brick, tried various plugs at the hotel and at the office).
4. From Device Manager, uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
5. From Power Options, selected alternate power plans and changed plan settings/restored default settings for the plan.
6. Went to Dell's drivers & downloads. Downloaded suggested updates to Intel drivers and BIOS. Installed Intel drivers.
7. Because power level was under 10%, couldn't install the BIOS update normally. So I downloaded a program to make a bootable USB drive, made the boot USB, transferred the BIOS update to it, restarted the computer, enabled legacy boot settings to get it to boot to the USB, and flashed the bios out of a DOS prompt with the /forceit command.
8. Since none of this worked, reran diagnostics (same results, slightly different voltage than the earlier office test, and diagnostic showed the drain when I momentarily pulled the AC cable out of the computer).
9. Took battery out entirely and restarted computer. Went back to Device Manager, uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter, shut down computer, pulled out adapter. Reinstalled battery, replugged AC adapter, restarted computer and both programs reinstalled.
10. Downloaded, installed and ran iOlo system check software and followed recommendations for other fixes although it found no issues with battery.
None of this has worked. I've now got a battery at 4% with the icon still showing 'plugged in, charging'. I don't have an alternate Dell battery and charger to try in the system (hotel doesn't have one, I may try to run to a local electronics store tonight after work to see if I can borrow one). While this could be a hardware issue, with the timing (issue arose after upgrade, no issues previously) and the battery passing its diagnostics I'm guessing software...maybe...
I have a 1 year old inspiron 1520 laptop which has suddenly stopped working.
When I press the power button, the power light comes on but I don't hear a fan whirring, the battery light also comes on. The screen is totally blank and the caps lock icon continually flashes and after about a minute the computer shuts down.
This happens with the battery attached or connected to the mains.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently received a warranty exchange to an XPS M1330. It's been working great up until the past few days. When I swap discs out of the drive 4 times in a row, the drive disappears from the "Computer" folder. The drive is a Matshita DVD +- RW. Dell tech support ran me through all sorts of tests, none of which solved the problem . They are going to send out a techie to replace the drive.
Does anyone know are have had this problem? If so, what was the solution?
Does anyone know how to prevent the NVidia drivers from disappearing?
I just installed 32bit vista and installed the drivers. Shortly afterwards, they disappeared and only the standard vga adapter was listed. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers again.
Again, the 160M was listed correctly. I then installed PowerDVD which wouldn't play. I went back to the adapter and it had reverted back to Standard VGA
I have a Dell N5050 which has the following erros on it:
Targeted Read Test, Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert and SMART Short Self Test,Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert.
What i can do to sort this problem out?
I have tried unsuccessfully to disable my mouse pad on my Inspiron 1525 Laptop, Windows 7, as I use a regular mouse and my fat hands keep moving the mouse when I type!

About 3 days ago my pages app disappeared from my iwork 08 folder. The next day my safari and msn messenger were gone then today my sons World of Warcraft is missing and a few documents have vanished also.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've had my Dell L701X for over two years now and I've had some trouble with the wireless adapter before, particularly within the last 6 months.
Recently, the wireless adapter has been disappearing from the device manager and I have had to resort to a wired connection. The adapter has been disappearing completely from the device manager and I am not sure why. I have tried reinstalling the Intel drivers for the wireless card but that hasn't solved the problem.
The components list for my laptop on the Dell website under components says I have the Intel WiFi Link 6200 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card. Also if I use the wireless hardware switch it seems to be turning the Bluetooth connection on and off in the network adapters.
Currently running Windows 8 but have also had the problem while running Windows 7.
I have a dell Inspiron Dell1525 with the bluetooth mouse they sent me. I left the mouse on and had to change the batteries. The mouse worked fine. I took a food break and left the mouse on.
When I tried to use it, the cursor didn't appear on the screen. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is the bluetooth connection needs to be redone. Any ideas how to do it?
I can only charge my laptop when it is turned off. Even then, I have to play with the cord that goes to the laptop for the charging light to appear. I have purchased a few chargers and it is not the case.
The battery is not the case as well. I was told by Dell that it is the actual chip/piece inside the laptop that has to be replaced.
My mouse is locked and or frozen. I do not have a password so I can hit enter to get to my main screen. I have tried doing what the dell site said to do and does not work. Told the unlock button is the key to the right of the f12 key.

I used an external keyboard and mouse to over ride the problem but from time to time, it acts as if a button on the built in keyboard is being pressed (for instance ctrl on the laptop is being held down so when I type the letter "f" on the external keyboard, I end up opening the Search tool). I don't know the internal mechanism of this laptop, but is there a way I could disable the laptop's keyboard and touchpad, and continue functioning only through the USB external keyboard and mouse? I tried uninstalling the drivers.

I am having a problem with the mouse, both the touchpad, and when I plug an external mouse in (although the problem seems to occur with somewhat less frequency when I am using the external mouse). The computer is having trouble recognizing mouse clicks. Sometimes it recognizes them properly, sometimes it responds to left clicks as if they were right clicks, and sometimes it does not respond to them at all. The problem seems to be worse when I am using a web browser, but it occurs consistently.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a ACER Travelmate 2482WXMi, i have done a fresh install of windows XP home, i have done a full format of the hard drive, but i have issues the touchpad will not work only in safe mode. I have installed most of the drivers through safe mode, but the mouse will only work when i connect an external mouse when it's in normal mode.

I have an Acer Aspire 4720z that keeps dropping the internet signal. I know it's not my router, because my wife's HP keeps on plugging.
While the connection is working, I show two wireless cards in my device manager:
1. Atheros AR5007EG
2. Broadcom NetLink Gigabit adapter
About once every 30 minutes to one hour, my connection will just die cold turkey, and checking the device manager shows that the Atheros card has just "disappeared".
I tried installing drivers for it again, but it just tells me that no such device exists.
The only thing that works is to reboot completely. Then it works for about another 10-30 minutes and the process starts again.
I have an Acer 5100 complete with the godforsaken Matshita UJ-850s DVD recorder drive, and a few months ago, it started not showing up in Windows at random times. It stopped showing up altogether a month or so ago. I've done the registry edit suggested for this drive, as well as opened up the computer to check the connection to the motherboard. The drive light comes on when a disc is inserted or when the eject button is pushed, but nothing registers in Windows. In addition, the drive doesn't show up in BIOS setup.

I'm not sure if this is a windows 8.1 issue, a hardware issue or driver issue. I have noticed that closing the monitor and then opening it again usually stops the mouse the issue temporarily.

I have an Inspiron 14R N4110 (bought 6 months ago) and recently the touchpad has been going crazy everytime I am using the mouse. It flicks back and forth between abling and disabling the touchpad, so much that I am unable to use the mouse because it continually engages and disengages. Some times it can happen 30 times in 1 minute. I went into the mouse properties and disabled the touchpad altogether but it still keeps doing it. I have run the diagnostic from the Dell site and downloaded all the required drivers, but nothing is working.
