Now, I own a dell Inspiron 1721 and have recently bought 2 gig of ram, just to speed things up a little! However, when I recieved it, it came in two sepeate modules of 1 gig. Not to worry I thought as every website says the Dell Inspiron 1721 has 2 slots. Opening up the back of my laptop, I could only find one slot.

Please don't riddle this forum with the same questions everyone else has already asked. UTFSE (use the search engine) first then ask questions if you can't find anything. Or USE GOOGLE! When you use Google search try using your exact model number, not just the series number.

ANYWAY!
There are only 2 places it could be:
1. First remove the existing ram chip (from the bottom side of the laptop), it might be under that one, but I don't know why the chip would in the top slot, it should be in the bottom one already.
2. It's under the keyboard. It can vary between models. But all you have to do it carefully pop the top button bezel off (EDIT: Start on the right side and pry it up and then pry the bottom edge until all the tabs are free) and then take the few screws out that are holding the keyboard down. It might be there clear as day or you might have to remove one more protective metal plate to find it. It's gotta be there!
If you still can't find it, GOOGLE your exact model number and include the keywords "ram" & "slot" with it. You should find some sort of specs saying how many slots are available.
Don't bother asking for a service manual. Most of the ones I've seen for Acer suck and don't show much other than an exploded parts view. But if you have to look, go here.

So i buy new laptop (hp pavilion 15-p153nm), in shop where i buy it it says that this laptop have two memory slots so i buy new 4gb ddr3 ram card and wanted to put it in free memory slot but when i opened laptop i couldnt find free slot only one...so my question is where is that second slot...i am using HP laptops and other products (printers etc.) for 10y and if this is some hp mistake and they didnt put second slot in this laptop i will be very disappointed.And yes i find manual for this laptop i opened this laptop by that manual and it have drawn two memory cards but its all it says about memory cards. I made the mistake of staggering my laptop purchase and didn't get the second hard drive installed when I bought it. Now I'm trying to put two hard drives in it, but found out that dell didn't include the caddy for the second drive in the computer.

In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
I own a XPS17 L702x 3D (4 memory slots) Installed memory 2x 2GB + 1x 4 GB = 8GB
I would like to upgrade the memory to 16 GB by adding one 8GB module.
Is this possible ? On the dell website I cannot find the XPS17 with the memory configurator.
I have a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop from 2008. I got an error message telling me to reseat the memory modules. I looked up how to do that and did it. I tried to boot it back up and still have the same error. I did try to reseat again and I am still getting the error. What should I do next?

But anyways, her laptop seems to run a little (burning hot to me). It's not all the time, but all she did was play farmville on Facebook for maybe 2 hours, and it's burning hot to the touch. (Half of the time it was plugged in.
After downgrading from windows 8 to windows 7 the usb slot on the right side of the laptop is working, nut the two on the left hand side are not working. Windows driver search says no driver found and unidentified ERROR.

The F8 and CTRL F11 do not work at all. I did the hours long total diagnostic that is built in and everthing passed - so must be software.
How do I recover? Can I just install a new version of Windows (to replace Vista) and save the existing files and software on the laptop?
I have replaced the hard drives with new blank ones, but I cannot now reinstall Vista from the Reinstallation DVD because no drives are seen.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but still no joy.
I have taken out the drives and, using an external HDD port, can access them from another PC, so I'm certain there's no issues with the drives themselves.
I've tried Paragon 2010 Suite, but even that cannot "see" the drives, so I'm deducing that it's an issue peculiar to this Dell model.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had an issue with using the SD slot on the front on the laptop, until now. I extracted the SD spacer to insert an adapter with micro sd and the adapter will not fully mount into the slot. I have tried just a regular SD card with the same results. The adapter has no problem being inserted or popped out. I don't see anything 'jamming' it or a foreign object in the slot, as much as I can see in the little spot.

I got the 1721 for x-mas. Its worked pretty well but it has a hell of a time multi-tasking then giving the blue screen of death and restarting on its own. Well yesterday I turned it on and it said that their were errors and it could not boot properly and would i like to do system restore.
Then it booted up to my log on screen but none of the buttons would work. So I restarted and got the same message about errors and then the screen went 99% black, I could only read it in the right angle of light
On an old Inspiron 8000 laptop, I have a CD-ROM drive that only fits in the floppy drive slot. Will the BIOS recognize a boot CD in this new location? I believe it's an 18000 motherboard.

If I reboot the Windows a few times it finds the adapter and connects to the wifi, however after 10-15 minutes Windows freezes and restarts. Is this a hardware or software problem?
