Dell XPS 17 :: How To Upgrade Memory To 16 GB By Adding One 8GB Module
Jan 27, 2015
I own a XPS17 L702x 3D (4 memory slots) Installed memory 2x 2GB + 1x 4 GB = 8GB
I would like to upgrade the memory to 16 GB by adding one 8GB module.
Is this possible ? On the dell website I cannot find the XPS17 with the memory configurator.

A friend has a macbook pro 17" with an SATA 113GB usable drive, Intel 2GHz core duo drive (not core 2). I normally work on PCs- I know very little about macs other enough to find system specs.
Is there any limit to the storage capacity size of a notebook drive I can install? I typically use the Seagate Momentus 7200 drives on laptops.
Also are there any links or threads to instructions on replacing the drive? I found the one for how to do it on Sony Vaios on this site invaluable.

I like my Dell D620 so much that I just got another one. I've heard that I should not add an additional 1G module to the existing 1G in this laptop, but rather that it is best to replace the existing 1G with either two matched 1G modules or one 2G module. Is that correct? Seems a shame to toss the 1G that's already in there . . .
Could I add a 2G module to the 1G that's already in there? I'm assuming that the bay will accept two RAM modules.
The OS is XP-Pro, SP3, if that matters.

Now, I own a dell Inspiron 1721 and have recently bought 2 gig of ram, just to speed things up a little! However, when I recieved it, it came in two sepeate modules of 1 gig. Not to worry I thought as every website says the Dell Inspiron 1721 has 2 slots. Opening up the back of my laptop, I could only find one slot.

I recently picked up a used d630. It currently has two 512 dimms in it. Do I need 2gb or 4gb? I know Windows XP won't use all 4gb.
If I do upgrade to just 2gb. Should I use 2x1gb or just get 1x2b and leave the other 512 dimm in there for now??

I purchased the W530 with the 120GB SSD option. Windows 7 takes up more space than I had expected, and now I'm looking to increase the amount of memory on my laptop.
Will buying the hard drive bay adapter from Lenovo and another HDD do the trick?

I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?
Not quite. In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?

Just found this and was wondering if it can be used in a regular minipcie slot. With every connector of course.
Or something like letting the X-FI chip doing all the work , processing etc. and lead the output through existing onboard audio.

There is a REAL X-Fi chip on board not those lower end ones used in usb and pcmcia solutions.

I have a 2.5 year old E1705 notebook. I'm going to upgrade to W7 soon and in the process I thought I'd upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB.
I ran Dell's utility from their tech support page and it seems to be the case that the maximum my computer will support is 2GB! Is that possible?
In any case, I ran a diagnostic program (from Dell's utility) and it says my computer has two memory slots, and currently each slot on my computer has "Dual In-line Memory Module 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200", whatever that means.
I assume the 533 is memory speed (Hz) value. So according to Dell's utility, I am unable to increase the amount of RAM, but I could, for instance, "upgrade" to better chips (i.e., Dell sells DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800 MHz). Price would be $56.

I'm planing to upgrade Ram Memory of my DELL XPS 15z for running some virtual environments. My question it's about the max amount of memory that the laptop support and the compatible memory modules. In some forums I read about 16Gb, but Dell PcCheckup shows 8Gb as the max amount of memory.

My hdd crapped out and I'm replacing it - I am toying with the idea of upping my memory as well. Current memory:
DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 256, 333, 32X64, 8K, 200
I am looking at one stick of:
Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 266 (PC 2100) Notebook Memory Model TS128MSD64V6A - Retail
I mainly use office and surf the net.
PROCESSOR, 80535, 1.5G, 1M, PENTIUM M BANIAS, PLASTIC GRID ARRAY, INSPIRON
1) Given my usage and proc, is adding 1gb overkill?
2) Is there any advantage to getting 2 new sticks of 512, rather than one new stick of 1gb and 1 old stick of 128mb?
3) Is there any advantage to getting higher-speed ram (PC>2100)?

possible
1 GB, 1.5 GB, 2 GB,
3 GB, and 4 GB
Just wondering, as I have been "window shopping" today. So far, it looks like Dell's upgrades are actually cheaper than DIY kits. I guess you could subtract whatever you could sell your stock memory for.
To anyone who has actually opened theirs: Does it really only have two slots? 3x2 Gb kits are around 100-150 USD, depending on where you look. Would be too convenient to have empty slots to stick extra 2 G modules into...

In a old post i read that the laptop has two memory slots, however, when i replaced the memory only see only one slot. Previusly i cheched the memory compatibility and it's acording to the specs. When i returned to the original memory it works. Why can't i upgrade the memory?

I keep running into a problem with windows not loading after installing new RAM. I am currently using the original 4GB (2 x 2GB) it came with and I am wanting to go with 8GB (2 x 4GB). I am using the recommended Crucial RAM and I have checked the BIOS which recognizes the new memory. The BIOS is up to date running A16 version. I have not been able to find any settings that would be inhibiting it from running. I have noticed that the currently installed RAM runs a 1067mhz even though it is rated at 1333mhz. As far as I can tell there is no memory remapping feature for the BIOS which does not make sense.
Here is a snap shot of what I have:

i cant post any links but had seen a few on play.com
2gb pc 5300 200 pin
would it matter that there would be 2 different types of RAM in the laptop.

I found out from the release notes for BIOS 3.60 that one of the changes is to "update kernel code for 4GB memory support". Does it mean that if I update my BIOS from v 3.33(dated 9/1/07) to v 3.60 I will be able to increase my current maximum memory of 2GB to 4GB in Acer Aspire5610z.

I already bought 2x512mb sticks and I CANNOT find second ram slot.
I managed to find the first one which is located on the bottom of laptop.
Where is the second slot? If it is under the keyboard or you have to dissect whole computer, how do you get to that area?

I've just completed a CPU upgrade on my 5315 (to a T7300, which took 15 minutes!). I'm now thinking of upgrading the memory from my current 2GB @ 667 MHz (with the new CPU the memory runs at 667 MHz rather than 533 MHz with the old CPU) to 2GB @ 800 MHz.
However, I've read that the performance increase between 667 MHz and 800 MHz is very little, thus, it's not worth spending the money, even if it is only $AUD40.
Can anyone provide any input, benchmarks or experiences?
