Dell Inspiron M5030 :: 7 Beep And Black Screen
Jan 3, 2015I need to contact customer services regarding my daughter's Dell PC. It is three years old and out of warranty it is still in perfect condition otherwise as my 12 year old daughter has only used it for light use and it was working perfectly until the other day. Then it just wouldn't turn on and started beeping seven times. I have noted from this website and many others that there was a generic fault with the processor Inspiron M5030 so I was surprised that there has been no type of recall on the laptop.
My daughter is understandably upset as I cannot afford to buy a new laptop and when I bought the Dell I thought it was a good product and expected it to last considerably longer than it has. According to trading standards I am within my rights to go back to the manufacturer within in six years of purchase if the product should be expected to have a longer lifespan and is known to have a fault. However, I can't seem to send an email from this site.

Jan 11, 2015I purchased another Dell product in 2012 but use it so infrequently it's still relatively new in usage terms.
It worked just fine yesterday, but when I tried to turn it on today, I get 7 audio beeps and a black screen.
Using my desktop, I've searched on Dell and Google about the problem and it seems to be an overheating processor problem and also seems to be a well known defect that some people have gotten Dell to replace the motherboard even if the product is out of warranty.

Dec 15, 2007So last night I replaced the motherboard and Video Card on my E1705. Everything booted fine. There were a few things I needed to fix, but the computer worked. In doing so I noticed I only had 512 RAM, so one of the sticks wasn't being recognized. I figured I must have put it in wrong, so I took them both out and put them right back in. I then tried to start the computer, and the power light and numbers lock lights came on, and the caps and scroll lock lights started flashing. The screen was black and turned off after ~1 minute.
Did I fry my RAM, or is something wrong with the motherboard reading the RAM? This is freaking me out.

If I want to restart it , I’m getting a black screen(without any beep) , and when I'm turning it on ,I must press 20-60 times on power button and maybe it will work.
In the same time ,I can keep it on,3 4 days ,without any problem.
I discovered that, when I want to turn it on (forced),if I press hard in the middle of the keyboard ,around keys "y /u/i/k/j/h" ,I hear a small sound, and after this its booting.

Jun 10, 2014I have received my new Yoga 2 13 a few days ago, after i used it 2 times it began making beep sounds every 2-3 minutes, without any reason I could see. There is no low battery, nor am i using too many keys at once (happens when I am not typing, for example in tablet mode, too). It happens when the Yoga is plugged in, too.
I don't think it can be overheating, since it happens when the only programm i use is Acrobat Reader for example.

Mar 25, 2013my inspiron E-1505 that I haven't used in a couple months won't boot. It has power and is charging the battery. The battery is okay. I get lights on the unit when I push start but nothing past that. If the cmos battery was dead would it start anyway? I took the HD out and put it back in. I get nothing on the screen and no sounds at all. The led's on the MB all flash during start.

Feb 4, 2015I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040) and currently having problems with it. I was watching something this morning and suddenly the screen turned green and then shut off. It turns on but the screen refuses to. I first expected that the screen is just unplugged inside the computer so I tried to hook it up to my TV via Hdmi and oddly it didn't do anything.I took it all apart disconnecting everything and then reconnecting everything. Everything seemed to be in good shape. No signs of shorts. Then after letting it run I noticed it beep 4 times. According to Dell 4 beeps mean "Read/Write error." I don't know if they meant the ram or hdd so I tried isolating both sticks of ram and no difference. I tried putting in two different hdds, nothing different. Even if they were I don't know why the screen wouldn't turn on and the bios wouldn't try to load. I suspect that the gpu is just fried. Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040), Intel i3, 8 gb of ram. Windows 7.

Apr 18, 2013I have a 17 Inch Inspiron R Se that I purchased in January...it has started booting to a black screen...if I press the power button again to turn it off then back on it boots fine...it is very annoying seeing as it is almost new...I had the same issue a couple of weeks after getting it and did the computer renew thing which fixed it (until now) but I don't want to do that again as I have a ton of stuff on it now that I don't want to mess with and have to reload etc...

I've tried taking the battery out and hold the power button for 2 minutes. After that I tried holding D and the power button but there was to change. I tried an external monitor which did not work either. There are no beeps. It if I leave the laptop switched on for a few mins I hear the windows start up tune.
