Dell :: Screen Was Black And Turned Off After ~1 Minute
Dec 15, 2007
So last night I replaced the motherboard and Video Card on my E1705. Everything booted fine. There were a few things I needed to fix, but the computer worked. In doing so I noticed I only had 512 RAM, so one of the sticks wasn't being recognized. I figured I must have put it in wrong, so I took them both out and put them right back in. I then tried to start the computer, and the power light and numbers lock lights came on, and the caps and scroll lock lights started flashing. The screen was black and turned off after ~1 minute.
Did I fry my RAM, or is something wrong with the motherboard reading the RAM? This is freaking me out.

I have a Vostro 3550 and it is not even a year old. Last night I was typing an email and all of a sudden the screen turned black and was all static. This morning I was having difficulty turning it on but saw the boot screen and hit Enter to Boot normally. Then it went static again. I have tried turning it on with and without the power cord plugged in. I no longer can get it to even load to the boot screen.

I've checked my control panel settings and then the advanced settings (for notification icons--which doesn't apply to this problem).
Â
What ever I set, I'm working at my computer and screen always goes to sleep 1 minute after if I don't touch the keyboard.
Â
What am I not getting. I need at least 5 minutes or so before it should go to sleep. My computer at the office only goes to sleep after I make it.

I have a Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7. Recently, when I open an application (ex. Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately out of warranty ....

I have a Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop, 64-bit operating system using Windows 7. Today, twice actually, it turned off with a blue screen appearing that said it detected a problem. I am worried there might be something wrong with my hard drive. And I know I should definitely back up my files. I am not very experienced with how to do this except I know I should put it in safe mode. I have a blank CD also.

I turned on my computer today and the Resuming Windows notice came up followed by Dell logo which I clicked on and the screen went blank. Have tried obvious things like disconnecting from mains power and switching back on with no joy. Â

On my old XPS, when the screen turned off, the keyboard backlight would turn off with it automatically. My new Inspiron 17 does not do this, and I can't find anything that seems to control the behavior. Is there a way to do this?
Alternately, is there a software solution to control the keyboard backlight?

Got an Inspiron n5050 in December 2011 and it worked fine until it decided to shut down and I manually turned it back on and it stopped at the screen showing the patents and won't progress past that, I've tried manually force starting from hard drive and also doing a diagnostics run and it reported that no problems were found.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040) and currently having problems with it. I was watching something this morning and suddenly the screen turned green and then shut off. It turns on but the screen refuses to. I first expected that the screen is just unplugged inside the computer so I tried to hook it up to my TV via Hdmi and oddly it didn't do anything.I took it all apart disconnecting everything and then reconnecting everything. Everything seemed to be in good shape. No signs of shorts. Then after letting it run I noticed it beep 4 times. According to Dell 4 beeps mean "Read/Write error." I don't know if they meant the ram or hdd so I tried isolating both sticks of ram and no difference. I tried putting in two different hdds, nothing different. Even if they were I don't know why the screen wouldn't turn on and the bios wouldn't try to load. I suspect that the gpu is just fried. Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040), Intel i3, 8 gb of ram. Windows 7.Â

Just received a y410p from ups, no visible box damage but when turned on it goes to an unclear blue screen and does nothing. Â It sometimes turns on and off repeatedly without getting anywhere. Â The OKR button gets stuck in when pushed and does nothing but repeatedly turning on and off the laptop. Â Spoke to lenovo and they are sending me a recovery disk, (not overnight mind you, but 3 day delivery, what great customer service that is). Â I have serious doubts that the recovery disk will do anything. Â What are my remedies?Â

Something strange happened on my T440s today when I first turned it on...it booted to windows, then I entered my windows login pin, and then the screen went blank/dark instead of going to the windows 8 tiles. so I closed the lid, and it went to hibernate. and when I opened the lid again the screen came back on and it worked fine.

I am a macbook user who had my first OS X blue screen. So I installed a new canon printer today, updated ilife 08 to ilife 09(I discovered that the ilife that preinstalled was 08 and the disk that came with macbook was ilife 09, suprise ), and was about to do some software update.
After the software update program checked that there were 6 new updates, it then freeze, and result in slowing other softwares. Then I figured out there is a force quit in apple menu, so I used it and restarted the system. But after the screen turned into blue, it wouldn't respond any more. So I stared at the blue screen for about a minute, and realized that Mac does crash and has blue screen
After anther one minute of waiting, I pushed down the power button and forced the computer to shut down( something I learned from my old Fujitsu laptop, it is one tough laptop, and it lasts for over 8 years already, and still running).
After the computer was restarted, I launched upgrade again, and this time nothing happened. Then I figured out there is something called disk utility that I can use to check the disk, and after the disk permission check, it came back with many permission changes for the canon printer program and some other programs, so I repaired them.

I just bought my laptop today, it has a i7-4500 processor with windows 8.1... While i was installing norton the screen turned blue but it was ok after a few minutes. But the screen turned blue again, and my task manager stopped responsing. It returned to normal after i re-signed in. Now it just turns blue for a few seconds occasionally and goes back to my desktop screen with all my shortcuts moved to the centre and my background removed.Â
I am not sure if this is normal, haven't used windows 8 before.

I noticed that my laptop takes 1 minute to boot, you know when the black screen with windows xp logo appears, stays like that for 1 minute before I get to the blue screen where I can log in by choosing a user.
I remember my laptop used to take almost 30 seconds to boot and now is taking twice the time.
My system is a dell inspiron b120 with:
Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002 Service pack 3.
Intel Celeron processor 1.40 Ghz, 1.24GB of ram
I have had this laptop for few years so I know its getting old but sometimes we can do something to make it work better

I was browsing the internet a day ago and I was on a "COLLEGE" website so i know this is not due to a virus. At this time all of a suden my screen went black.
I powered the laptop off and turned it back on, The Dell logo appeared but the screen was fuzzy and had some "tearing" i dont really know what to call it but it doesnt look right. Kind of like an old VCR playing videos. The screen then whent black after the windows xp splash screen. The laptop still boots to windows but it does not display anything.
I booted into safe mode, everything functions correctly and the way it's supposed to. I then booted into VGA mode same thing everything functions and works the way it is supposed to. I also ran some virus scans just incase, nothing was found.
Whilist in safe mode i changed the resolution down to 800 x 600 and still no luck after booting in regular mode.
In VGA mode i tryed to change resolution and the screen displayed some blue fuzzy lines then whent black.
After this I booted back into safe mode and done severeral diffrent System Restores at diffrent dates. Still no luck
After going through all this I am assuming this is a GFX card problem. The laptop is about 3 years old and ive played games pretty hard on it ever since. The card has defenitly gone through some some stress. Can anyone confirm this?
I know that the i9300 sells for about 400 working, and i checked on ebay for a card that is a whopping 180 bucks. Id just assume buy a new laptop. Then sell the i9300 laptop for parts because everything else works fine. Or maybe buy the card swich it out and sell it for a price. Maybe there is a way to fix it i dont know. can anyone help?
Lastly, i thought i would add that when i check the bios the card is recognized and it displays all the correct info for the card. IS there a way to tell for 100% that the card is bad?

I got my Lenovo G50 2months ago. So, it's not shabby at all. My problem is, every 1 minute it blacks out for 1 sec. I googled it and it says that I should go to power options, change plan settings to blanced (recommended)  and in "turn off the display" select "Never"  On both "On battery" and "Plugged in". Then I followed these steps, but nothing happens. I can't even use the warranty because it is bought abroad. I don't know what to do.

is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD?
it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60?
what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?

I've got a brand new Yoga 3 Pro with the 256GB Liteon SSD. Every 20-90 minutes, it freezes up for up to a minute at a time. If I keep the task manager opened up and check it, I can see disk usage at 100%. System process is usually up at the top, but looks like it's only writing maybe 1MB/s, so it's not like it's at capacity.

I've updated the Intel Chipset to the latest drivers. Intel's RST tool seems to think everything is ok.
