Dell :: I9300 Gfx Card Dead - Gives A Black Screen After The Xp Spalsh Screen
Feb 25, 2009
I was browsing the internet a day ago and I was on a "COLLEGE" website so i know this is not due to a virus. At this time all of a suden my screen went black.
I powered the laptop off and turned it back on, The Dell logo appeared but the screen was fuzzy and had some "tearing" i dont really know what to call it but it doesnt look right. Kind of like an old VCR playing videos. The screen then whent black after the windows xp splash screen. The laptop still boots to windows but it does not display anything.
I booted into safe mode, everything functions correctly and the way it's supposed to. I then booted into VGA mode same thing everything functions and works the way it is supposed to. I also ran some virus scans just incase, nothing was found.
Whilist in safe mode i changed the resolution down to 800 x 600 and still no luck after booting in regular mode.
In VGA mode i tryed to change resolution and the screen displayed some blue fuzzy lines then whent black.
After this I booted back into safe mode and done severeral diffrent System Restores at diffrent dates. Still no luck
After going through all this I am assuming this is a GFX card problem. The laptop is about 3 years old and ive played games pretty hard on it ever since. The card has defenitly gone through some some stress. Can anyone confirm this?
I know that the i9300 sells for about 400 working, and i checked on ebay for a card that is a whopping 180 bucks. Id just assume buy a new laptop. Then sell the i9300 laptop for parts because everything else works fine. Or maybe buy the card swich it out and sell it for a price. Maybe there is a way to fix it i dont know. can anyone help?
Lastly, i thought i would add that when i check the bios the card is recognized and it displays all the correct info for the card. IS there a way to tell for 100% that the card is bad?

I am at my wits end with my e1705. I had a sudden meltdown about 2 weeks ago... screen went scrambled, BSOD,etc...
Performed diagnostic, memory on video card came back as bad. Replaced with new card (from Dell), reinstalled OS, completely reinstalled nVidea drivers from Dell (Used driver cleaner too)...
Everything went smooth for a couple hours after this was completed yesterday (full diagnostic showed no errors), but after booting up today, after about 5 or 10 minutes of use screen freezes and turns either solid cyan or black... a small pattern of thin lines appears also.

Recently my Aspire 9113 started producing screen corruption during the boot process, looking something like an old version of space invaders, (text mode blocks) and then a hatched pattern in XP. It also would crash with a BSOD driver error related to the video driver. I removed the driver (FX Go7600 card) and at least the computer worked with the exception of the screen being slow to render.
I subsequently decided to investigate the BIOS and as a random act of faith decided to reset the BIOS to default settings. Since this, when the machine boots the screen is blank(black) during POST and XP boot up. I can still login to XP so I assume that everything else is OK.
As I removed the driver I don't think I can switch the display to an external LCD although if the card really is gone then I guess this wouldn't work.

I was curious if my i9300 would run with the screen off it? I'm curious because it developed a single purple vertical line on it yesterday out of no where.
I read into this and it seems to be a common problem, I would like to take the screen off and run an external monitor. Can this be done? Any help would be great.

is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD?
it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60?
what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?

I have pavilion dv7, so far I had no problem. Now, when I login it logs in but then instead of showing me the home screen, it goes into blank black screen. It has just started to happen and I hope there is another way to make it work without rebooting the whole system.

For the past few months I've had issues with my display on my laptop. Â At times I would start the computer and it would either go to a black screen and take a very long time to load or I had to restart it to get it to go to the start screen.

I have a Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7. Recently, when I open an application (ex. Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately out of warranty ....

I bought myself a Dell xps m1330 when I was in Japan last year and it's been rather troublesome. (I had to replace the hard drive.)
The built in monitor has recently died much to my disdain. I have a spare monitor lying in my room that would work. The thing is that when I start my laptop,
I can't get the display to transfer over to my old monitor. Is there a certain key combination I can press on startup to make the display go over? My nvidea control panel has the ability to choose a preferred monitor but I can't see to get to it..

So I received a friend's XPS M1330. Who got it back from dell for motherboard replacement (gfx card problem).
It was working great till one day he boot it up and the screen had nothing on it. The laptop runs with an external display connected. The warranty expired nearly a month ago =/
How do I know if the screen is completely dead, or that the inverter or backlight died. If the screen is still alive can i simply replace the inverter or backlight? How do i test that the screen is fully dead?

I had firefox running with several tabs, then I went afk for a while and when I came back, the screen was blank. I shook the mouse, made sure it wasn't sleeping, tried alt-ctrl-del, but I got nothing. Then I did a manual restart by holding the power button then starting it up again.
I could hear the sound of the login screen coming up, I entered my password and it was able to login to Windows since I heard that Windows startup sound. I still couldn't see anything on the screen. I plugged in my external LCD to see if that could detect anything but it said "no signal detected".
Does anybody have a solution for this? Or is my laptop pretty much dead?
My specs are:
T7100 1.8ghz
2gb ram
8400 gs
vista home 32bit

The screen on my Dell Vostro 1400 just died on me. I can turn on the laptop and I hear Vista booting but the screen doesn't show up. The Dell Logo doesn't even show up when I turn on the laptop.
So to diagnose this problem, I connected my LCD monitor to the laptop. The screen appeared but tere is flickers of color everywhere and the screen resolution is terrible. I think the graphics card burned out. I was wondering if my diagnosis is correct?
Also if it is burned out, is it easy to swap graphic cards? I have a GEforce 8600 GS on my laptop. It is not connected with the motherboard.

Does anyone know if the internal Bluetooth card that slots into the underneath compartment on old Dell Inspiron's (like the i9300) uses a USB connection?
What I mean by that is, if I were to chop the plug off the end of the connector cable and replace it with a female usb socket, would I be able to run any USB device off it? I need an extra usb socket for a pretty extreme casemod I'm doing at the moment and it ideally (definitely!) needs to be on the underside of the laptop.

so after about 6 months of not-so-abusive use of my notebook, the LCD screen sort of chickened out on me.. (Maybe me thinking to tear it apart sent it running lol)
What happened was, every so often before the day of failure, my screen would go gray in the bottom half and alright in the upper. Usually this would be fixed by applying very little torsion in the screen i.e. pushing on the left upper part of the screen and pulling on the right.
Not yesterday. When that happened and I made this move, it only became worse, lines started forming in the screen and then the screen went from white to black like paper burning..although moving it wouldn't make it stay that way. Now, I could only see about 1/3 of the upper part of the screen.
Now, I can't immediately claim the warranty of this thing, since it was my dad who bought it at Singapore, and the ITW says that the buyer must make a personal appearance with the necessary documents i.e. passport, reciepts etc. before the laptop could be repaired.
The first impression I got was perhaps the wire connecting the LCD to the mainboard needs to be reattached or something, but my local Acer service center suggests that it might as well be an LCD screen fault altogether.
Now, how would you know if it's your LCD screen and not just wires that went kaput? I was pretty convinced that it might just be the wire, since the method I used to do solved it, but now it doesn't budge...

I have an N7110 (2011, warranty expired) with NVidia GPU. The power jack recently broke, and when I was sent a replacement, I was sent a 5 pin one instead of the 8 pin (with one redundant pin) I required. When I connected the 5 pin to see if it would power up, the screen started what looked like a graphics diagnostic. It was flashing red, blue green if I remember correctly.
Then after a reboot, it started beeping 8 times and the screen back light doesn't work. I can just about see that there is output to the screen, but its to dark to read.I now have the proper 8 pin power jack and lead connected.
I know that 8 beeps indicates an LCD failure, but I'm not convinced that this is the case. When I connect another screen via either VGA or HDMI, I don't get any output to the screen. This makes me think that there is probably a problem with the motherboard or graphics card.I don't want to waste €100 on a new screen only to find out that the fault is on the motherboard, and if I have to replace the motherboard, I don't think its worth it since this would cost almost half the price of a replacement laptop.

Last year I replaced my inverter as my screen was dead. I thought it was the lamp as I couldn't see the screen with a flashlight, but it was the inverter and worked fine after that.
At the same time I bought an external monitor to use for the larger size and recently I have been using the computer out and about.
So since I replaced the inverter on startup the screen will be dead most of the time. By the time it gets to XP it will turn on if I press FN and F4 several times. Sometimes I close and open the lid as I mumble obscenities, always entertaining while public. At first I thought it was the external monitor software confusing the computer into thinking it was plugged into an external but I change the screen back to notebook when I take my computer on the go.
If I boot into Ubuntu the screen will be dead during BIOS but once it gets to the log in screen on Linux the screen turns on.
Sometimes the screen will be on right from the get go. I have no problems when it is connected to an external monitor.

Recently my Dell Inspiron 1545 screen is showing green patches. They are only increasing day by day and after rubbing the screen they disappear for some time before appearing again. I tried some software solutions like pixelhealer etc but no use.
Is there any other way to eliminate dead pixels? How much the hardware replacement will cost ?

My laptop just got its screen replaced due to dust and I sent in my DV5T to them to fix it. They told me it was going to be a brand new screen. They fix it and send it back to me. I open the box and notice that my keyboard is improperly installed and later that hour, I noticed that I got a dead pixel.
So I call my HP case manager and tell him what is going on and it is B.S that HP won't fix my laptops screen. They are going to fix the keyboard but as for the screen he said that there is a formula that they follow to determine if they can fix my screen. I am pissed because I know that HP ain't going to give me any break because of the fomula but it is the fact that once I open my laptop I notice that I have a dead pixel. Can they really do that? Like fix my laptop and claim that it is a new screen but has a dead pixel?
I need to know what else I can do if they can't fix my laptop because the pixel is so obvious since I have the 1680x1050 res.

I bought an Acer Aspire V/-582PG 15,6" HD touch a month ago. Today I was playing games with a couple of friends when the screen suddenly turned white. I could still hear the game music and could talk to my friends on mumble. I tried to put the computer to sleep and turn it on again, but the screen was still bright white. I then tried to shut it down and start it again; the screen was still white.
Â
I then connected it to my tv using hdmi. This enabled me to see the Windows login screen. Shortly after I logged in to Windows, the computer shut down. Now i can't start it and none of the lights on the computer are on.

How black is your RGBLED screen? If you look at the black screen (say, black desktop background) in a completely dark room, is the screen uniformly black? Mine has some slightly brighter "shadows" (well, it's actually the opposite of a shadow) towards the middle of the screen. Granted, this is a tough test for a laptop LCD, but for that kind of money I would have expected more. My M90 certainly does better in that regard, but I do seem to recall that the screen on that laptop had a similar issue, and did improve over time.
So, is what I am seeing normal, or should I get them to give me a new LCD?

I can shut if off but it will not go back to normal until it wants to. Sometimes this is a half hour or sometimes several hours almost as if it is to hot but the CPU temp is normaly 45 C to 50 C.

2 days ago, when starting my computer (Windows logo after POST), my screen suddenly went black. After 20 seconds it changed to my external screen as normal. This made me suspicious as my screen usually goes black only for 2-3 seconds during startup.
After startup I tried changing back to the internal WUXGA screen on the laptop by pressing FN+F8.
What happened then was that from the left side of the laptop, I heard this weird high-frequency scratching sound. The screen went on for a fraction of a second ( I could see the desktop ) but then it instantly went black again.
What can be causing this?
I installed the WUXGA screen myself about half a year ago. Can this be caused by loose cable connection or something like that?
