I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and my mousepad does not work while typing. This is an annoying default setting and it prevents me from being able to play most computer games. I have already tried changing the dell touchpad settings (Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Dell Touchpad) to no avail, and I am not willing to get a mouse.

For example: if i'm holding the space bar, my mouse jams and no matter what i'm doing to the mouse pad, I can't move the mouse for as long as I hold a button. This presents major problems for gaming etcetera. I am using A dell N5050.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe right click button does not work on the mouse pad, as well as on a usb mouse. I have used Acer factory recover disks to restore it to out of the box condition. Same issue. If you use control panel to switch buttons then the only thing that happens is the cursor moves no click at all. Also after a period of time letting the computer warm up suddenly the cursor is working but even the left click will not function it will highlight the icon but not allow you to click it. I am wondering is the only solution to replace the motherboard since it appears to be a heat aggravated problem. And before I forget, yes I have replaced the drivers a couple of times clean install as well
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an inspiron 5547 coming from the outlet with windows 8.1 on it and an I7 4510U and I want to replace the 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA drive with a 512 gb SSD. My question is do I need to buy a retail copy of windows 8.1? As I recall, the disks provided by Dell are limited.
Can I maybe download a copy from MS and use the license that comes with my system? I seem to remember requesting a disk from dell in the past, is that an option?
Am I correct that this laptop can't take a mSATA drive?

I just bought a brand new computer. Started it up and the mouse pad is working intermittently! Sometimes I'll try dragging over to click an icon and it freezes! Is there a problem with the computer? I'll shut down and it will work fine for an hour, then quit working, or move very slowly. I changed all the settings for the mouse pad and still doesn't work correctly.

My laptop in under international warranty.one of my friend told me to unplug the battery and reconnect the same and problem will be resolved but there is two screw in the bottom plate and I confuse to unscrew. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my Dell 5547 laptop. There is a roughly 1cm border all around the screen which wasn't there before and I noticed it now as my taskbar is adjusted 1cm up but when I put google chrome in full screen it sort of chops the top bar down a bit.
I noticed through google searches other people have had similar issues with Dell laptops however I can't seem to find a solution because every time I try to turn off the "maintain display scaling" it won't let me turn it off.
Brand new laptop, received yesterday. Plugged in a USB mouse today. All was fine until I unplugged it - now the laptop's touchpad will not work, despite the fact that as far as the computer is concerned, it is enabled (have gone through control panel, touchpad controls, etc. - everything thinks the touchpad is enabled). Drivers are up to date. Mouse works fine when I plug it back in, but cannot get the touchpad functioning.

I'm not sure if this is a windows 8.1 issue, a hardware issue or driver issue. I have noticed that closing the monitor and then opening it again usually stops the mouse the issue temporarily.

Initially the touchpad was working fine, then it stopped responding, only when I attached a USB mouse could I use the laptop. I re-installed drivers and the Touchpad worked correctly again. A few days later, the trackpad stopped working again....reinstalled drivers yet again and everything worked fine. Now for the 3rd time in 4 days the trackpad is not working. When I installed Windows 7, I receive error message "Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit Enhancements has stopped working." Wen I close this my touchpad start working erratically. While typing cursor moves itself without touch or click.
The driver given on Dell site under Windows 7 is same as for Windows 8. I also tried drivers from Synaptics website but nothing worked.
I have noticed lately that my space bar sticks sometimes. I can be tying and when I look up I see words grouped together without spaces.. I've tried hitting the spacebar hard but I still get the same results.
I have tried using a keyboard and that works fine, so it must be my laptop.
I put my laptop on sleep by closing the lid but after some time when I open the lid it doesn't show any display. I tried to on the laptop by pressing power button but it doesn't responding. I bought it around 4 months ago.

I have an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and while typing, the cursor frequently jumps around and will begin typing in a previously typed line. This is extremely frustrating. I am running Windows 8 and have looked to find where I can adjust the sensitivity of my touchpad but can't find it anywhere. I've seen other posts for other computers that suggest uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling it. What I should do for my specific laptop to stop this from happening? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver. If so, how do I do that for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 running Windows 8? I'm also keeping my hands off the touchpad while typing but the cursor still moves.

I am quite annoyed about my trackpad getting in the way while typing. the cursor will sometimes unclick, jump onto another part of whatever I am typing or click onto everything and erase it! since i have downloaded windows 8 i have not found a way too disable the trackpad. i use a seperate mouse and i want to permanently disable my track pad.

I have noticed that while typing, the cursor my move back to a different position in the line, move to a previous line, or jump to another text box altogether. It drives me crazy that when I type, I never know if there is some combination of keys or if I accidently touch something to make the cursor change position.
Is there by default some combination of keys that cause cursor movement. It has happened 4 times while typing this message.
Can this be turned off?

e.g. If I want to type tilde(~) character, then I have to press the key on the lest side of Numeric key 1. But, if I press it once, nothing appears on the screen. And If I press this key twice, then I get two tilde (~) characters. Same behaviour happens for four other characters. Given below is the list of characters, which do not show up by pressing key once, rather twice.

Surprisingly, when I was typing keys Shift+6 in the compose area of this forum, then the character caret (^) appeared after pressing key once. Whereas, if I try it in Notepad or Word Pad or in the address bar of Mozila FireFox, I'll have to press the key twice so that character appears twice and then delete the extra character...
