Dell Inspiron M1510 :: Won't Come Out Of Hibernation

Feb 16, 2013

I have an Inspiron M5010 that is about 3 1/2 years old, running Windows 7 Home Premium.. a couple days ago it started acting strange when booting up coming out of hibernation, saying windows hadn't shut down properly and asking if I wanted to start Windows in safe mode.. once I got an error that said my computer was having a problem coming out of hibernation..now today it won't come out of hibernation at all..

When I push the power button, it tried to boot up but the screen stays black and eventually it just beeps at me several times until I push the power button again to shut it off.. what do I do???? I've tried turning it on and off several times and nothing has changed.. I don't even know where my Windows CD is that came with it at this point since it's been so long ago..

Dell :: Inspiron 1526 Blank Screen After Hibernation

Oct 21, 2009

My Dell Inspiron 1526 won't restore after hibernation.

After a recent Vista update the laptop was placed in hibernation mode before the normal 'restart to complete update' process. After a minute or so i press a button expecting to see a logon screen, instead the monitor was off, blank screen with no power.

I presss every button but nothing happened. After a restart the monitor remains off but i can still hear 1526 checking the cd drive. I restarted several times trying the Fn+F8 option with an external monitor and pressing the up button while holding Fn but still the same.

1526 appear to be in a wierd state because i placed a XP boot cd and restart then hit Enter several times. If the backlight or inverter was the only problem then 1526 would boot from the cd as normal though i wouldn't be able to see. It doesn't, it simply power up, checks the cd drive then does nothing.

Dell Inspiron 7000 :: Crashing When Coming Out Of Hibernation

Jan 10, 2015

My 2013 Inspiron tended to come out of hibernation either quite slowly , taking 20 to 30 seconds to get to the log-in screen, or crash altogether (not every time, but every 2 or 3 wake-ups) which required a hardware reboot.. After doing some research, I found some information. It appears there may be some conflict between BIOS settings and Windows (8.1 in my case).

I checked BIOS settings and the only thing I found was that Intel's Rapid Start Technology was enabled. So I turned it off and rebooted. Turns out, the Rapid Start actually delayed the boot process: my computer boots MUCH faster now (about half the time from before) in the full boot process, it comes out of hibernation almost instantaneously (as I would expect from a system with i7 processor, 16 GB Ram and SSD) and it has not yet crashed when coming out hibernation.

Dell Inspiron N5050 :: Running Windows 7 - BSOD On Hibernation

Apr 22, 2013

I have ignored the issue as long as I can but I am too often losing my current state when I hibernate my pc.The screen powers down which makes me think that the hibernation is happening as normal. However I still see the HDD power light remaining active for say 10 minutes.

The computer then throws a blue screen of death and then powers down. When I reboot I get the message Windows did not shutdown successfully. Windows will ask me to upload the crash dump file to Microsoft but I never get any kind of feedback. This process is quite frustrating.

Dell Inspiron 7720R :: RST Drive Failure When Turn On Computer After Hibernation

Apr 29, 2013

I recently went to turn my computer on after putting it into hibernation, and was greeted with an error screen telling me one of my RST drives had failed. After hitting CTRL-I and going into the config for it, I was able to disable RST completely and get my computer to boot back up. However, the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" monitoring program now shows no RST drive, and I am not sure how to troubleshoot it further without potentially affecting my C: drive. The computer is also running noticeably slower, though I would guess that's because it no longer has the SSD available.

I have already run the pre-startup diagnostics (F12 at boot) and have found no errors. I would like to know if this is something that can be corrected on my own, or if I will have to request parts or service from Dell. For reference, the laptop is a 7720R.

Dell Inspiron 14R :: While In Sleep Mode Goes Into Hibernation / Off Mode In About 2-3 Hours

Feb 14, 2013

I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now.  This computer has done this since day one for some reason:

When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own.  The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.

I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections.  I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this.  I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?

Dell XPS 15Z :: Not Coming Out Of Hibernation

Dec 29, 2011

I've just purchased an XPS 15Z (highest category with the 256 SSD) and face a few  issues

1- the computer often does not come out of hibernation, the system cannot be restored after it goes in hibernation mode.

on several occasion I have put my laptop in hibernation mode and when I turn it back on it prompts me with a black screen and an error message giving me 2 options (1 - either try to restore files or 2- exit safe mode and cancel restore) if I chose the first option of trying to restore the files it gives me another error message which says:

"windows boot manager, your computer can't come out of hibernation - status 0xc0000411
info: a fatal error occurred processing the restoration data
file: hiberfil.sys
Any info that was not saved before the computer went into hibernation will be lost"

Therefore when I turn my computer back on, all windows and programs I had previously opened are closed and not saved

I have had to deal with this issue for over 10 times since I've had my computer (less than 5 days)...

2-  overall memory problem, with approx 50 Gb missing (might be linked to my first issue)...

I haven't installed anything on my laptop except for some photos that I transferred from my old computer (accounting for 40 Gb of memory) however I have 99 Gb of used space on my SSD.... this is weird since every time I switched on my laptop there's less and less space available even though I haven't installed anything new...

I've had the computer for less than a week but both these issues keep happening...

If I try to enable it in dell quickset feature (tick off the option), after pressing those next, next buttons and returning back to quickset, it’s not enabled again.

If I try it in windows power options, I keep getting message “the file cannot be access because it’s being used by another process”

HP/Compaq :: HDX 16- Hibernation

Oct 29, 2009

I own HP HDX X16-1005EA Premium Notebook PC.

The problem is as follows:

Example: when hibernate the laptop. Then switch it back on with mains button and do not touch any key of button.

Within 2 minutes the laptop automaticaly hiberante !

This happens on both ( mains power supply and battery as well )
if I will touch any button or key during this 2 minutes period the lapptop would not hibernate untill it reaches the set time ( see bellow )
troubleshooting : I checked the time when the omputer is set to hibernate in advanced power settings and it is as follows:

hibernate after:
120 minutes on battery
1080 minutes plugged in

sleep after:
10 minutes on battery
25 munutes plugged in

I am curently using HP Recommeded power plan and if I switch to other plans ( Power Saver or High Performance ) it does not make any difference.

I also tried to set the hibernationand sleep to never but again no difference.

I also tried to use the recovery DVD to reinstal the operating system ( just in case this is caused by some virus ? ) but it does not make any difference !

The problem is still there altough the OS was re - installed so it can not be used by additional software, virus or so.

I am running latest BIOS version F31.A and regulary using HP update service to update all drivers etc. setting changes : No nothing was added or changed.

Acer :: Anyone Have 1410 With Hibernation

Sep 23, 2009

I have a Gateway EC1803h which as far as I can tell is identical to the Acer 1410 except for the design of the case, so I'd like to ask this to the Acer users since there are many more with the 1410 than the Gateway.

I'm running Windows Vista. I've disabled the ACPI Lid driver by changing the driver to "Volume Manager" as suggested by various internet sources for fixing the problem where closing the lid, even with the close lid action set to "do nothing" can cause the lcd to not turn on again when opening the lid.

So the problem is with hibernation. If I hibernate the machine, then resume again within let's say a minute or so, it comes back up fine. If I hibernate, then wait a longer amount of time, say 10 minutes, I can see the BIOS boot, the "Resuming Windows" splash screen, but then when I'd expect to see the login screen, instead the laptop screen turns off, and I see nothing. Oddly enough, at this point, if I plug in an external monitor, I can see the login screen there, so the OS is running properly. I can even log in. But at this point, I cannot Fn+F5 to enable the laptop screen. It's like the laptop screen has been disconnected/disabled/removed, whatever you want to call it.

Another weird symptom is that at this point, I can usually see a "System" process that ends up taking up 100% of the CPU processing, all of the time (not just spikes), so the task manager basically stays at 100%.

This feels like a software/driver issue to me, but I've been unable to find any other Acer 1410 or Gateway EC1803h users who've experienced this. I've tried the video drivers on the Gateway site, Acer site, as well as drivers from the Intel site. Same behaviour. I'm contemplating exchanging it for another unit, but only if there's a chance this is indeed a hardware malfunction.

Sony :: Hibernation Under Windows 7 (SR)

Aug 20, 2009

I've installed Windows 7 RTM x64 on my SR19 three weeks ago. Everything is working fine except one thing, which I'm trying to fight all the time and nothing helps.

When my laptop reaches it's critical battery level it hibernates. But when I plug it in and turn it back on, Windows says "Resuming from hibernation" and loads until welcome screen, than it immediately says "Shutting down", and shuts down the computer. I have to press power button again and it successfully boots, but all of my work is lost..

As far as I understood, Windows should work normally after resuming from hibernation, even if it was hibernated due to critical power level. So what's the problem?

If I put my laptop into hibernation myself, it resumes absolutely normally and everything is working fine.

I've tried disabling "Automatically enter hibernation when..." in VAIO Control Center, and left "Critical battery level action -> Hibernate" on, this changes nothing. I've tried even uninstalling VAIO Power Management. Doesn't help.

Apple :: Mac - Hibernation Modes

Oct 9, 2009

Apparently Mac OS X has three hibernation modes (as outlined below from an official Apple document): a. Always save the RAM content to HD and hibernate (this is the default), b. Dont save RAM content to HD (I think this is the "regular sleep" and risks losing data if power is interrupted), and c. Save RAM content to HD and hibernate when the battery power is at a critical level.

I am planning to change the default scenario (point (a) above) to the (c) to avoid writing RAM content to HD every time the lid is closed. Has anyone changed the hibernation modes before? If so, has there been any problems with battery life, data loss, etc etc?

Dell :: SXPS 1645 Unexpectedly Wakes Up From Sleep Or Hibernation In Windows 7

Jan 18, 2010

For the last several days my Dell SXPS 1645 laptop running Windows 7 Professional randomly wakes up from either Sleep mode or Hibernation mode at any time during the day. The most it seems to stay off is for ~6 hours. It does not happen when I properly shutdown the PC. I checked the task scheduler, and nothing is scheduled to run at most of the times it wakes up, and none of the tasks are set to wake up the PC if scheduled to run. In the system logs, Windows 7 recognizes that it was waked up, but the "Power-Troubleshooter" event entry looks like this:

The system has resumed from sleep.

Sleep Time: ‎2010‎-‎01‎-‎18T11:10:00.659235300Z
Wake Time: ‎2010‎-‎01‎-‎18T17:43:26.545117000Z

Wake Source: Unknown

Any idea what could be causing this? I'm positive it's not a "Wake-on-LAN" feature as that's fully disabled and I'm only using WiFi anyways. I'm not sure if this happens when the laptop is only plugged in or if it happens on battery as well. (I'm continuing to see if there's a trend on this one)

Some background info: I'm running the original Dell build on the laptop with some of the bloatware removed via Control Panel. I've modded the ATI driver to the latest Catalyst version, which does seem to record the odd event error shortly after power-on (I noticed it when checking the power on event logs)... not sure if that's related.

Acer :: 1410 Screen After Hibernation

Mar 15, 2010

I just bought a brand new Acer Aspire 1410 11.6" laptop equipped with the SU3500 processor and GMA4500MHD GPU, 250GB HDD and 3GB memory.

I'm very pleased with my new notebook and have installed Windows 7 free upgrade (it came with Vista installed, which I didn't even bother to test). Now, I'm having some troubles when I'm opening my laptop when it's on hibernation (no problem on boot).

The problem only happens one time out of four (approximatively). When I open the screen, there are vertical lines in the screen (around a hundred) on the whole surface of the screen. I need to reboot to get my screen back to his normal state. The lines are moving when I'm moving my mouse but there is no way to remove it (even if I go again into hibernation and then open it again). Reboot.

It doesn't happen often but it's a little bit annoying, I don't want to reboot my computer half the time after hibernation (obviously).

Is this a hardware problem? As the bug only occurs less than half the time and the lines are moving with the mouse, I thought it was a software problem. But there is no threads on any forum about this issue, and I've already reinstalled the Intel GS45 chipset/VGA drivers.

I installed windbg, and got the follwoing data from the kernel dump:

Sony :: Hibernation Wake-up Takes FOREVER. W7 64-bit, Vaio Z

Nov 15, 2009

i installed W7 64-bit on my Z590 last month, and everything has gotten to perfect working order. The only snag I've run into is that waking the computer from hibernation takes an annoying long amount of time. On the scale of minutes, whereas a fresh boot-up from shut-down will take less than a minute, and wake-from-hibernation on my XP install before did the same. Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me?

Ignoring the whole debate on why-do-you-hibernate (I run several programs, especially photoshop and MATLAB, that I do not wish to close and lose temporary history data), is there any kind of remedy for this? It's annoyed me to the point that I just put the computer on sleep instead when necessary, which drains the battery. I've been hibernating my laptops for 7 years and I really hope not to have to change my habits. I know another friend with the same setup has this issue as well.

HP Envy 17 :: Suddenly Goes Into Hibernation - Won't Charge Past Certain Point

Dec 18, 2014

Starting last week my laptop has been experience some battery issues. I noticed first that when it got to around 25 or 30% battery, it would suddenly go into sleep mode (at least, that's what I think it's doing. When I plug it in and turn it back on, the HP loading screen appears, but everything else returns to exactly how it was). Once back on, the battery has been reduced to 1%.

Also, it won't charge past certain percentages, which are gretting progressively lower. At first it was 98%, then 93%, and at the moment 35%.  It will say that it is charging, however.

When I use HP Support Assistant, my battery displays as "Okay". My friend used a program that drained my battery as fast as it could (I can't remember what that type of program is called) and I think he said that it did it in about 25 minutes or so, which is expected of a laptop of this age (about a year and a half old).

Lenovo B / G Series :: G560 - Network Disconnected After Waking Up From Hibernation

Dec 20, 2010

For the last two days or so, my Lenovo G560 laptop (running Windows 7, 64-bit, BIOS 2.10) has had problems with its (wired) network adapter after waking up from hibernation. It is shown as disconnected (same as if the cable was physically detached). The only major change I performed in the last few days was installing Service Pack 1. However, the problem only appeared about two days afterwards, so I'm not sure if this is related at all.

In such cases, IPCONFIG reports the following for the NIC:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

If I try IPCONFIG /RENEW, I get

Windows IP Configuration No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.

Hovering over the tray icon says "Not connected". Troubleshooting of course doesn't find anything. Also, there are no weird entries in Event Viewer (unless they're hidden somewhere in other views). Basically the behavior is identical to when the network cable is physically disconnected (unplugged).

Also, unplugging the network cable, waiting a few minutes, and plugging it back again doesn't do anything.

For now I have two workarounds:

-rebooting the system

-right-clicking Local Area Connection (under Network Connections), selecting DISABLE from the menu, waiting for a few moments, and then choosing the ENABLE from the context menu.
