View 2 RepliesMy daughter was using her laptop (19 months old Inspiron 15R N5010) a couple days ago when all of a sudden, all but the bottom of her screen went black, the bottom was all garbled. Then a weird shrieking noise came out of the laptop and everything powered off (it was on battery). So she plugs in the ac power cord, thinking her battery was dead. Computer started to power on, fans & hard-drive spinning, but no screen at all, all black. After a couple minutes, the same weird shrieking sound and everything off again, but that time, a burnt smell came out of the fan exhaust.
Now, with our without ac power, the only thing that "works" on the laptop is the power button LED, everything else is silent. No fan, no hard-drive, no dvd player spinning. It's out of warranty, unfortunately, and hse needs it for class. I've fixed laptop before, actually on 2 occasions I replaced motherboards on other brand laptops without any issues... but while looking at the inside of the N5010, there are 2 boards inside, the mother board, and the power/ac/wan board...
i have dell N5010 laptop.it shuts down automatically whenever i restart the windows.i can't even install any new operating system as it turns off automatically.i am sure that it is not due to heat. but after 20 minutes  it becomes normal..my laptop configuration:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering what the average time was for a totally dead y510p to charge while using it for some light browsing on the internet. It seems to charge really slow especially after it reaches about 80 percent or so. I was curious to see what other owners have had in terms of charge time. I seem to have narrowed it down to about 5 percent every 10 minutes while my cousins HP charges way faster. Not too upset about it but a bit curious. For example as I am typing this out it's been at 99% for the past 20 minutes or so, and HW monitor shows it charging really slowly but when its at like 50 percent it charges at a decent rate maybe about 10 mwh every 5 seconds or so.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a N5010 Inspiron. My battery has been down to a few minutes for a yr or two. I keep my laptop plugged in always unless traveling.
Today, my battery light started flashing. Amber for times then white then repeats. Since I was plugged in I was perplexed. I looked on my screen and it showed 100 percent battery meaning I am plugged in.
Then I turned my computer completely off. THE LIGHT KEPT FLASHING. Now it is getting spooky. I unplug the power supply from the back of the computer and the light went off.
Hours later I plugged everything back in. Started the computer and the light started again. Since it is no warning for anything other than the battery,Â
I tried unplugging while computer was on. Still flashing.
I turned off. Took battery out and put back in. Still Flashing.Â
While off AND battery out I plugged in and no flashing
Put batter back in....plugged in and flashing resumed.Â
So for now I am trying to ignore it....
I recently purchased DELL N5010 INSPIRON, but now it give one problem. It is not run without AC power. and when i point the battery through mouse it show
"17% available (Plugged in, Not Charging).
And battry light flashing 4 times with orange light after a second. It is the bug or any hardware problem, because the bettery may be only 2 month old...
Dell inspiron n5010 shows charging, but battery always empty, what is the reason behind this i put my laptop several time on charging but no solution.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new battery (90 Whr) for my Dell Inspiron N5010 as the original one had reached the end of it's life. I put the new battery in, charged it fully, and when I turned my laptop on the window colors were changed to blue and when I go into the personalization screen it won't let me change back to the settings I had before. Also I used to be able to preview the windows I had open by hovering over the icon in the task bar now it just shows a blue bar with the page title and when I hover over it nothing happens. I hover over the right side of the task bar to show desktop and nothing happens. What I wan't to know is how come the battery changed all this and how do I get things back the way I had them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Laptop is 1 year and 5 months old. There are 2 problems I am facing with my battery:
1) When it is charging, at around 86% level, it stops charging and I see an orange light blinking at the battery icon and it continues to blink unless I turn the power off and allow the battery to discharge for a while.
2) at around 45% to 50% level, the battery level suddenly drops to 7% level and then I have to charge again.
Because of these issues I now use my laptop as a desktop. It is always plugged in and I use the option of "Stop Charging" in the windows power settings. how to solve the problem.
this has never happened to me until I installed the new Inter driver because I was having a video problem with turbo tax.
When I plug or unplug the AC the monitor shuts off for a second and then turns back on.
very annoying. Why is this happening? Also what refresh rate should I set it to? 40hz or 60hz
Actually, I own an XPS 15 for a year now. But I'm having issues with the battery; the icon shows that it charges to 56% only. As far as I noticed, the battery indicator never turns orange.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS m140 when I use the ac adapter without the battery inserted the laptop powers up fine. When I insert the battery and the ac adapter the adapter turns off after a few seconds. If I unplug the ac adapter and do it again the same thing occurs. When I remove the battery and use the ac adapter after I unplug it from the wall the laptop will power up again. I don't know if the ac adapter is not strong enough to charge the battery and boot up. I tried just having the battery in and not turning on the laptop to see if the battery would charge and the ac adapter turns off after a few moments. Can a battery have a short in it to cause this or is the adapter finally going south? I tested the adapter and it shows 19.5v. when the adapter light goes off it tests 0. After I unplug it and replug it, it shows 19.5v again.I don't know where to go from here, new battery or new adapter.

My laptop model is Dell inspiron n5010 (2011) . It was running fine until today when suddenly while I played game it started lagging, first I thought that probably I run too many app but I ran task manager and saw that my cpu is 100 % and led lamp for hdd is always on. I restarted and saw that right after I click the button the led is on. I ran defrag disk twice.

System:Â Y410p with
1tb hdd
24gb ssd
intel i7-4700
8gb ram
64x windows 8.1 (came installed)
Â
Problem:
When I put the computer into sleep mode, it goes into sleep mode without issue. It has stayed in sleep mode for a maximum of 8 hours, but usually before it hits this long the system will turn on. It seems to run random processes and overclock the processor as the computer gets very hot. It will do this until the battery dies, or if plugged in, indefinitely.
Â
While it is doing this I have opened the lid, pressed every key, including power, with no response. Once, and only once, upon pressing the space bar, it had actually come to the unlock screen as though it truly was in sleep (except it was still overheating and on). Otherwise my only option is hard shut down.
Â
I've just gone around it for a while now by shutting down every time and not using sleep. But today I had put it in sleep, and placed it in my backpack where it nearly cooked itself to death.I have tried:
-I have checked the wake_armed, which currently display NONE
-I have checked last_wake
-I have fiddled with hybrid shutdown.
I have a N5030 it was giving me the beeping 7 times, so I replaced the motherboard and the cpu. I got it to startup and work but than the touchpad wouldn't work so I did a system check including the bios and my battery ran out and so that process stopped. When I plugged in the ac and hit the start button, I got a black screen. I unplugged everything inside and out and now it turns on and shuts off quickly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI aquired this Laptop in...October 2009. I'm really happy with it, but I have a question.
It reaches high temperatures while gaming, about 90º-95º and it's keeps around 70º in idle.
I haven't noticed any problem with performance or anything, only the fan kicks really high as soon as I start a game.
Is it normal? I always heard that AMD Cpu's are hotter than Intel.
I want to know which type of RAM is used on my Dell Inspiron 15R N5010 also i want to add a graphics card. How to check?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy N5010 won't turn on. I've tried removing the battery and power cable and starting independently of each other....no joy. When I push he start button it beeps 3 times, there will be a pause of maybe 10 seconds and will beep 3 times again. This cycle repeats. The screen just stays black.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBattery drained on my laptop.  I did not notice that it was not charging. I purchased a new charger cord, but it would not charge. The laptop shut off and will not come back up. When I press the power button, the power button flashes on, three lights flash on front, you can hear either the hard drive or fan start up but then it all goes off. Do I need a new battery?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy dell laptop wont boot. When i hit the power button, i can hear the fan whirr, and some of the lights come on, but nothing happens on the screen ( not even the back light) and after about 40 seconds, it beeps twice, then nothing else happens. i tried plugging it into another monitor, but still nothing showed up on screen. i removed the hard drive and tried, but got the same result. it wasn't dropped or anything... it simply didint work one day. Its not my pain pc, so its not a big deal, but for the time being i have no mobile computer.Â
Ive done some googling and have tried swapping out each ram stick, and removing AC and battery power and holding down the power button to empty the capacitors. Ive tried to hold f2, f8, f12, and delete upon boot, none of these are having an effect. another thing worth noting is upon turning it off, i hear a high pitches ring coming from the inside that makes short pauses intermittently. it only does this when the AC is plugged in.
My dell Inspiron N4030 turns off automatically without any warning message and without system shut-down message after some random amount of time. Whenever I turn on the laptop it will work about 10 minutes and then turns off  "boom!" and as I restart will work for 7-8 minutes and again turns off. If I keep on restarting it again and again without giving it rest then the working time keeps on decreasing...
