Jan 26, 2008Why does my Inspiron 2200 turn on again after I put it on stand by? I put it on stand by and it turns back on by itself in about an hour.

Dell :: Inspiron 2200 Won't Log In Right
Jun 18, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 2200, Windows XP, about 4-5 years old (2005), but works for me.
The thing is, I went to boot up and it said I need to log in. That's not a problem, except there's only one profile and I didn't log out. The real problem is that when I click "log in" it logs me in, it flashes the background and logs me back out. This is NOT a password problem.
I'm pretty sure I know what caused the problem - my stupid behavior. Instead of doing the smart thing (I was tired) I searched for "AOL," all files. And I deleted everything I could. THEN, I got smart and decided to uninstall it (strangely enough, it worked...).

Dec 30, 2014I have an old Inspiron 6400 with Win XP, 80 GB, 2 GB RAM, Intel Core TM2 CPU. I want to install Win 7 Home Premium and use the laptop simply as a standby in case my newer Inspiron 17R 5720 is out of action. Is it possible to upgrade?
I don't care if the performance is sluggish - it's just a standby. It would only be used for emails and internet if my newer Inspiron is down. I used the Service Tag for the 6400 to look at the available drivers. For my Service Tag, the only drivers seem to be for XP or Vista.

It will not respond to any button presses and the power light is pulsing. The light with the spanner in it is constantly lit also. Ive tried removing the battery, only using AC etc. Ive held the power button for more than 30 seconds but nothing gets a response.

Feb 2, 2013I have a N5030 it was giving me the beeping 7 times, so I replaced the motherboard and the cpu. I got it to startup and work but than the touchpad wouldn't work so I did a system check including the bios and my battery ran out and so that process stopped. When I plugged in the ac and hit the start button, I got a black screen. I unplugged everything inside and out and now it turns on and shuts off quickly.

Apr 7, 2009Have just rebuilt an Acer Travelmate 2200,loaded XP Professional on it, but when I try to upgrade the memory from the standard chip it doesnt like it!
If I add an extra 1Gb chip into the spare slot under fan casing it comes up on start up as file missing system32drivers tfs.sys. If I remove the original chip and replace with one 1Gb card only it fires up ok, but again when you try to add the second 1Gb card the same error message, file missing system32drivers tfs,sys comes up.I have looked at a PDF of the instruction manual and follwed to the letter as far as ram upgrade but at this juncture am now completely at a loss as to what to do next.The 2200 will support 2Gb ram so why cant I load it?

Apr 6, 2013My dell laptop wont boot. When i hit the power button, i can hear the fan whirr, and some of the lights come on, but nothing happens on the screen ( not even the back light) and after about 40 seconds, it beeps twice, then nothing else happens. i tried plugging it into another monitor, but still nothing showed up on screen. i removed the hard drive and tried, but got the same result. it wasn't dropped or anything... it simply didint work one day. Its not my pain pc, so its not a big deal, but for the time being i have no mobile computer.
Ive done some googling and have tried swapping out each ram stick, and removing AC and battery power and holding down the power button to empty the capacitors. Ive tried to hold f2, f8, f12, and delete upon boot, none of these are having an effect. another thing worth noting is upon turning it off, i hear a high pitches ring coming from the inside that makes short pauses intermittently. it only does this when the AC is plugged in.

Mar 25, 2012My daughter was using her laptop (19 months old Inspiron 15R N5010) a couple days ago when all of a sudden, all but the bottom of her screen went black, the bottom was all garbled. Then a weird shrieking noise came out of the laptop and everything powered off (it was on battery). So she plugs in the ac power cord, thinking her battery was dead. Computer started to power on, fans & hard-drive spinning, but no screen at all, all black. After a couple minutes, the same weird shrieking sound and everything off again, but that time, a burnt smell came out of the fan exhaust.
Now, with our without ac power, the only thing that "works" on the laptop is the power button LED, everything else is silent. No fan, no hard-drive, no dvd player spinning.It's out of warranty, unfortunately, and hse needs it for class. I've fixed laptop before, actually on 2 occasions I replaced motherboards on other brand laptops without any issues... but while looking at the inside of the N5010, there are 2 boards inside, the mother board, and the power/ac/wan board...

Jan 24, 2015I have a dell inspiron 15r 5521 laptop. Yesterday when I tried to turn it on it won't boot, even the POST or the BIOS won't show up. I removed the battery and power supply and press down the power button for a long time and repeated it a lot of times too but no luck. I removed the HDD, RAMs and the CMOS battery and kept it that way for 5 mins and put them back in but it was still the same. I noticed that whenever I enter the ac adaptor into the laptop the fan moves for like 100millisecond and the light on the caps lock button lights up for the same amount of time then it all goes silent. Same happens when I press the power button with only the battery inserted.
All what happens when I try to turn it on is that the power indicator light on the laptop turns on(white color, which is the normal color for this laptop), and that's it. The light don't blink or anything at all. No beep sound. The fan, HDD everything remains silent. Only that light stays on until I unplug it from ac and remove the battery. Pressing down the power button doesn't turn it off either. No other indicator light such as the wifi's, hdd's, battery's light doesn't turn on.

Before I always used to hibernate or shutdown my laptop to save energy, but I'm curious if standby mode really uses much power or not.
