I have tried to use combofix and other software to rid this laptop of the virus but I can't seem to do that. It is not recongnizing the CD/DVD ROM so I can't use the Recovery Disc. It won't let me use a command prompt. If I could get it to let me do a clean sweep maybe I can run the software on it.

I've talked with several computer repair people who have array of prices just to figure out what's wrong and another price to fix it plus parts and I just do not have that money. If anyone can help me out i would appreciate the help I'm trying to get it up and running before school starts.
I have a Compaq Presario V5000 (V5315WM)
Windows XP
On start up it goes to a black screen displaying NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del it goes right back to NTLDR is missing
I've also ran a Primary HDD Self-test and within a few seconds the Test Status came up Fail
I'm not sure what that means as I've read that doesn't always necessarily means the hard drive is fried
Would a recovery disk help and if so are there any free ones to download off the computer?
I have a Compaq Presario 2200. Half the time I disconnect the power cable, I get a Blue screen with the message "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq presario CQ56 - 154CA laptop. I wiped the hard drive using DriveCleanser in TrueImage Home 2011 and then attempted to load the recovery manager with F11 (or F10 or whatever it is), but now all I get is a red screen with the big Q logo with "press ESC for startup menu" on the bottom left and it just hangs there. I did wipe the Win7 and the System partitions, but not the Recovery partition. I did do a backup of those 3 partitions onto my external drive, but the laptop won't boot from a bootable flash drive I made in True Image, nor any of my boot CD's. And I did set the bios to boot from flash first, then DVD, then hard drive before wiping.

I didn't make the recovery DVD's with Recovery Manager in Win7, but I shouldn't need them since the Recovery partition is still there.

I've read that some Compaq laptops use a utility on the hard drive to load the bios, startup menu etc, so if that is the case with mine then it was thoroughly deleted. If this is the case, is there any way I can get it back on the drive?

If not, I could try to remove the drive and put it in an ext enclosure and hook it up to my desktop. It's possible that I can use the flash drive to use True Image to restore the two wiped partitions. Also, I've read that in this instance, removing the drive and then turning on the laptop may allow the bios to load, but I'd really rather not take out the drive if I don't have to.
My daughter has managed to get a virus on my laptop which has completely wiped it out, it won't start windows, it won't do anything. Its an acer aspire laptop and I worked out it has a partition from googling and did the Alt F10 thing which seemed to work a dream, did a restore to factory defaults etc. etc. but it then started to load windows, I had to choose my location,enter username and password etc. etc. and then nothing, just a blue screen (which is the windows backdrop) and nothing. I've taken the battery out after about 2 hours, restarted the computer and it did the same again and has now been sitting at this blue screen for an hour or so, should I do Alt F10 again? or am I just suppose to wait it out?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ60. The Display does not appear to be working. When I turn on the laptop the display remains black. No boot up screen, nothing. I can't go into the bios because I have no screen. The screen remains black. The harddrive appears to be working and all other functions appear to be working but I am not sure because I have no screen.

Is this a known issue with the Compaq Presario CQ60?
I somehow got infected with a horrible virus, I think it was possible a trojan horse or something along the lines of that. So then, I restarted my computer, but I chose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt".
However, it started listing a bunch of files on the black screen, so I shut it off, and tried to restart it, but failing.
Then, the computer said I should do a "system restore", so I found my system restore CD's, and had the computer do a system restore. Everything was going well, and when it finished restoring, I restarted it, yet again to see a message saying there was a fatal error and I need some sort of software or something.

Is there any way; software-wise that I can clean the hard drive of any viruses if I put it in an external caddy?
I use this HP pavilion dv2000 laptop for more than 2year but I don't have recovery cd and I never thought to write. But recently my laptop affect with virus which is not allowing to login into window xp, as soon as I login it get logs of immediately and i decided to reinstall xp,So while booting the computer I pressed to F11 to load HP recovery option and it loads but after few point no display on the screen. So, I don't know what to do. If I get some recovery CD/software so that I can download and write in it and load in my affected computer.Or Can you please suggest how do I load windowsxp freshly in my laptop. I don't have any important data's in my laptop, so I can even do format HDD is necessary.

I bought a HP-Pivilion DV14-1551dx a month back and I haven't created recovery discs yet. After a month of usage I suspect some virus and spyware in my laptop because some of my friends browsed unprotected websites. Will the virus and spyware affect the recovery partition? Now if I create a recovery disc from the recovey partition will it be safe to use those discs or will it be affected by virus and spyware?

I managed to clear off the trojan horse, except now my computer has several problems:
1. All my CD-ROM Drive Drivers are corrupt
2. I can't access some system files to install applications
3. My C-Drive space decreases at a phenomenal rate
I have a Dell Inspiron 2200, Windows XP, about 4-5 years old (2005), but works for me.
The thing is, I went to boot up and it said I need to log in. That's not a problem, except there's only one profile and I didn't log out. The real problem is that when I click "log in" it logs me in, it flashes the background and logs me back out. This is NOT a password problem.
I'm pretty sure I know what caused the problem - my stupid behavior. Instead of doing the smart thing (I was tired) I searched for "AOL," all files. And I deleted everything I could. THEN, I got smart and decided to uninstall it (strangely enough, it worked...).
Have just rebuilt an Acer Travelmate 2200,loaded XP Professional on it, but when I try to upgrade the memory from the standard chip it doesnt like it!
If I add an extra 1Gb chip into the spare slot under fan casing it comes up on start up as file missing system32drivers tfs.sys. If I remove the original chip and replace with one 1Gb card only it fires up ok, but again when you try to add the second 1Gb card the same error message, file missing system32drivers tfs,sys comes up.I have looked at a PDF of the instruction manual and follwed to the letter as far as ram upgrade but at this juncture am now completely at a loss as to what to do next.The 2200 will support 2Gb ram so why cant I load it?
I installed a generic copy of XP on my travel mate 2200. It works ok but some of my keyboard buttons dont work, my sound card dont work, WLAN not working! how do i get all this working?

It goes to login screen, enter password, then it says its loading settings but flashes straight to logging off and goes back to the login screen. it has xp home edition, and does the same thing in safe mode. tried restore disks but pc is telling me restore discs are for wrong model.

i have a compaq presario 1500 with a pentium 4 running XP SP3 on it. I am having trouble with keeping it under a good heat, the fan is constantly running high! i know this needs a good clean but the screws to remove the back casing are so small for me to do this! any suggestions of how i can clean inside? or get to th fan through the top by the keyboard?
secondly it tends to crash every now and then, maybe when it overclocks on the cpu?? i am recently trying out a program called speedswitchXP which seems to be slowing it down to an extent! but not solving the issue.
thirdly and finally, my battery only holds charge for around 10 minutes before needing constant wall plugin! i constantly have it plugged into the wall, could this be a result to any of my problems?
got a Presario V2000 that will not boot whatsoever.
Upon pressing the power button, the machine starts up and displays the standard "Windows could not start properly" screen. Every option I choose, from the three Safe mode options, to the Last Known Good Config, to Start Windows Normally will not work.
I choose an option and everything goes smoothly, the Windows XP splash screen pops up & stays there for a few seconds, then goes blanks for a slightly longer length of time before a blue screen pops up. I can't remember the first few numbers, but the rest I'm pretty sure is accurate:

or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, (something I cant remember), or not writable

.....and it pretty much repeats over and over in a continuous cycle like this until I power it off.
What I'm wondering is where exactly the problem lies? On the Hard Drive--where the drive itself needs to be replaced or the OS just wiped and reinstalled fresh.......or is this indicative of a hardware failure...which would mean this lappy is pretty much dead?
On pressing start button, laptop starts, but blank screen comes. After every few seconds, it keeps on rebooting, but nothing happens.
I have tried pressing F10 and Esc button on startup, but nothing happens.
Moving finger over multimedia touch buttons causes them to beep.
Few times, it shows the BIOS, but does not detect the hard-drive.
Very rarely, everything works fine and OS boots and works fine (without any sign of problem).
I replaced RAMs, hard-drive and DVD Reader in other laptop and there they worked absolutely fine.
I even tried removing the battery, connecting external monitor, keyboard, but nothing worked.
BIOS version is F.3D.
When opened, CPU fan and heatsink were dustfree.

I have a Presario V2000.
After not using for about 1 week I turned it on so I could clean it from viruses.
Got the battery alert and then it shutdown meanwhile I was pluging the cord in (Targus AC cord with
blue light).
When I connected the AC to the power (not connected yet to the laptop) it "turned on" and still today
shows a blue light. But once I plug it to the laptop the blue light disappears after 3-5 seconds!
Not at the beginning nor the end of this process the laptop will turn on if I press the power button
for 'x' seconds. If I plug the cord, the computer doesn't show any "power light" and then the blue
light from the Targus AC fades off.................
