I have replaced my laptop battery and the icon now indicates 100% available but plugged in charging.On removing the power lead the laptop immediately dies.Should I have done something about callibration when installing the battery?
View 3 RepliesI have a Compaq Presario CQ61 Product: VM9496Q2X Model: CQ61-319WM, that has a black screen when I power up. The wifi button stays red and the caps lock flashes twice. I believe this indicates a BIOS corruption failure. I have tried resetting by unplugging and removing the battery, and holding the power button for 30 seconds. I have tried the f8 key and the esc repeatedly at power up. I have also tried pressing the windows and B key along with the power key but nothing worked.

I'm not to up on my AMD cpu's so not sure what the best upgrade would be. Also, what does the bios support, as there are many CPU's that will fit the S1 socket, but I guess not all will be supported in the bios, so does anyone have any knowledge on this.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-313us notebook, and i've just installed windows 8.1, then i realized there was a problem with my Internet, every time i open a website, i always get either a page like this: [URL] ... , or i get "Error: Gateway Timeout", though i can get to the website if i refresh a few times, but it's extremely slow.
Also, i can't download anything, I've been trying to download the .NET Framework 3.5 through Windows Features and windows Update, but in vain. I think that proves that the problem isn't from IE. I also think that it's the wireless driver's fault, but i'm not sure, and i don't know what driver to download. I tried updating it from the properties meny, but it says it's up to date. My wireless adaptor is Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 802.11b|g|n, V3.0.1.155.
Update: I think it's worth noting that when i download with utorrent, it downloads normally with my regular download speed, but other than that, i can't download anything.
How do I restore my Compaq Presario CQ61 - 415SA back to factory settings. I have been told to press F11 on start up but it won't work. just loads as normal. Have tried F10 too same result.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ61-417SA Notebook PC operating on Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop freezes at random times, sometimes minutes into use or an hour into use. It is not caused by clicking a certain program or file. I suspect freeze issue maybe caused by hardware failure, possibly the HDD.
Here's a few observations of the laptop and the things I've tried to diagnose or fix it. During a typical hang the HDD LED light is constantly lit. Have also had both blue screen and black screen freeze. No error messages. Hard drive gets very hot. Entered BIOS and run both Primary Hard Disk Self-Test and Memory Test using InsydeH20 Setup Utility but it passed both.Laptop has been fully reset to factory settings so it can't be because of high CPU usage.
While idle the CPU usage is usually in the range of 13%-25%, with a rare spike of 53%The hard drive is a Western digital Scorpio Black 2.5" 320GB SATA. The laptop is unused so wiping it back to original settings wasn't an issue but I would like to get it back to a useable standard.

Most of the time the laptop will not boot up and I get the single blinking LED on Caps Lock and Num Loc. However, if I am persistent and keep trying the start button it will boot up. After it boots up every thing works fine. I can even do a restart and it will stop and boot back up. But if I do a shutdown then I will have to push the start button several times (it will come up with the single blinking LED on Caps Lock and Num Loc) before it will boot up again.
I have a compaq presario CQ61-420US with similar problems below, except I have a black screen, fan turns blinking lights are the same (num lock and cap lock) but they are flashing continuously every second or 2. I have tried the hard reset with the ram fix, connecting an external monitor, changing the battery, and the power adapter to no avail. I also used compressed air on the vents just in case was stuffed with dust since it will overheat and may cause problems, but nothing.
One option I can think of is purchasing a new MotherBoard, but I'm trying anything else before that.
I have a problem with my Compaq Presario CQ61-325ED. It won't boot. What I see is a black/blank screen, with the numlock and capslock lights blinking twice every couple of seconds.
According to the blink codes, it seems the BIOS has been corrupted [URL] .... Sadly, no adequate solution is given on that page.Win + B or Fn + B at startup does nothing, pressing all the arrow keys gives me a continuous blinking pattern (edit: I can't seem to replicate this anymore...). I have also tried creating a bootable USB-stick with a BIOS update, but I don't think I have done it correctly, for it never gets activated (the light on the USB never turns on).
Also, removing/resetting the RAMs or just one of the RAMs does not work. Neither does removing/resetting the CMOS battery. How to successfully create a bootable USB-stick with BIOS update for CQ61-325ED?
After rebooting my system I now come to a screen to enter system password. Only thing is.. I never set this and there is no way around it.I have tried the take battery out reset CMOS trick that used to work in desktops to no avail.

One thing that I have noticed is that the power lead is not very long and I can just about sit on the sofa with it plugged in. The power lead, plug to the transformer is only 1 metre long, which seems very short. The length of the lead from the tranformer to the laptop looks about normal length.
if Dell do a longer plug to transformer lead....... if so how much and where can I get one?
My computer crashed and i had to restore it to factory settings. I then successfully connected it to the internet but now it wont.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to connect my Presario CQ61 Notebook to a Philips TV via HDMI under Windows 7. I checked the settings in the control pannel in Windows 7 and set them to multiple displays. Under the NVIDIA control panel I cloned the displays. Nothing happens, black screen on the TV with "no signal" message. The Notebook is recognizing the TV correctly by the way.
I already spent 2 hours on this. Tried various articles online, but nothing seems to work. The HDMI cable is OK. I successfully connected a Playstation console to the TV. Seems it's not a hardware issue, but something with the settings of my notebook.
I've just attempted to burn my recovery discs, currently stalled after burning disc 1 of 3 with the message:
"Re-insert the disc you have just written and close the tray"

My Power button, Sleep and Lid Closure settings are all set to Hibernate when on battery or plugged in.
When I am running on battery and I press the power button (note I am not pressing and holding the power button) the system shuts down and then resumes instead of staying in hibernate status.
Also exactly where is the Sleep button on an XPS because there is no obvious symbol for this anywhere on my keyboard?
This laptop is missing battery and memory, what I'd like to know is, should this laptop power up even if it has no memory or battery?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe screen on my wife's presario notebook suddenly went black on sunday. She was surfing on the net when that happened. The screen wasn't completely black, it was kinda gray-ish like the LCD light was still on. The power LED was also still on. She turned the notebook off and back on and the screen stayed pitch black. The power LED comes on, the fan is running and also the DVD drive starts running but neither do I see a picture nor does the HDD LED flicker.
I tried different things like unhooking the power, uninstalling the battery but nothing helped. However after a couple of restarts I was able to make it show the 'Compaq' logo twice. Each time the HDD LED flickered a couple of times and then the screen was gray again.
On the Compaq website they suggest to re-set the RAM module(s). Does that sound like a possible solution to anybody? My wife is going to check if the notebook is still under warranty (She bought it in August last year) before I try to mess with the RAM.
I have a G72 with the Radeon 5470 gpu. 2 days ago my wife received a bluescreen on Windows 7x64 stating that the video driver had stopped working. From that point on the G72 would not make it to the desktop without the screen going dead. The machine boots to safemode fine. I tried as much as I could think of to resolve this issue but eventually backed off her data and restored to factory. The problem persisted and I ended up disabling the ATI card in the control panel. The machine seemed to be working after that.
I begin the long process of brining the OS up to current. About 2 sets of updates after Win 7 SP1 the problem came back. I booted to safe mode and checked the driver and discovered that it had been re-enabled. I have tried disabling it again and rebooting. Sometimes it stays disabled thru reboot but sometimes it does not. At this point the machine will go to a dark screen (not just black video but dead) after I sign on. This was happening without regard to the enable or disable status on the ATI card.
So... I attempted to do another rehang of the OS and got about half way thru. Windows setup now tries to reboot and after the machine comes up, the screen goes dead. Is there a way to disable the card in bios? Can the card be physically removed?
I bought this laptop 1 week ago. When I was in battery mode the laptop was dying at 60%.
Returned it to the store and got a new one.
I have a acer aspire 7750 G with windows 8.1
When I take the laptop out of a sleep mode it goes immediately back into sleep mode. I do get the screen to enter my password but it's only there for like 2 seconds.
The second time I take it out, it works fine. Just a bit annoying that I have to do it twice pretty much 95 % of the time.
I have a laptop that crashed and I'm trying to take the steps to figure out what's exactly is wrong with her and how to fix her. I've talked with several computer repair people who have array of prices just to figure out what's wrong and another price to fix it plus parts and I just do not have that money. If anyone can help me out i would appreciate the help I'm trying to get it up and running before school starts.

On start up it goes to a black screen displaying NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del it goes right back to NTLDR is missing
I've also ran a Primary HDD Self-test and within a few seconds the Test Status came up Fail
I'm not sure what that means as I've read that doesn't always necessarily means the hard drive is fried
Would a recovery disk help and if so are there any free ones to download off the computer?
I have tried to use combofix and other software to rid this laptop of the virus but I can't seem to do that. It is not recongnizing the CD/DVD ROM so I can't use the Recovery Disc. It won't let me use a command prompt. If I could get it to let me do a clean sweep maybe I can run the software on it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq presario CQ56 - 154CA laptop. I wiped the hard drive using DriveCleanser in TrueImage Home 2011 and then attempted to load the recovery manager with F11 (or F10 or whatever it is), but now all I get is a red screen with the big Q logo with "press ESC for startup menu" on the bottom left and it just hangs there. I did wipe the Win7 and the System partitions, but not the Recovery partition. I did do a backup of those 3 partitions onto my external drive, but the laptop won't boot from a bootable flash drive I made in True Image, nor any of my boot CD's. And I did set the bios to boot from flash first, then DVD, then hard drive before wiping.
I didn't make the recovery DVD's with Recovery Manager in Win7, but I shouldn't need them since the Recovery partition is still there.
I've read that some Compaq laptops use a utility on the hard drive to load the bios, startup menu etc, so if that is the case with mine then it was thoroughly deleted. If this is the case, is there any way I can get it back on the drive?
If not, I could try to remove the drive and put it in an ext enclosure and hook it up to my desktop. It's possible that I can use the flash drive to use True Image to restore the two wiped partitions. Also, I've read that in this instance, removing the drive and then turning on the laptop may allow the bios to load, but I'd really rather not take out the drive if I don't have to.
On startup I get "Administrator Password or Power On Password". After three tries - System Disabled (65684298).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ60. The Display does not appear to be working. When I turn on the laptop the display remains black. No boot up screen, nothing. I can't go into the bios because I have no screen. The screen remains black. The harddrive appears to be working and all other functions appear to be working but I am not sure because I have no screen.
Is this a known issue with the Compaq Presario CQ60?
One month after my warranty expires, my 12 cell dv5t battery stops dead in its tracks. No warning, no nothing! (Was working fine up until it died, and hadn't even lost much usage time, considering its been used fairly much.) And I have a 3 year extended warranty, that, of course, doesn't cover the battery!
But there's a tiny bit of good news. . . I learned a very good tip ---I didn't know, until I was on the phone with the HP sales guy spending $160 for a new one (double grr) that you can still use your laptop with a dead battery, if you take the battery out! I thought there was no way to use my laptop, and now I can, so at least I won't lose valuable computing time while I'm waiting for UPS. Small consolation, but I HATE it when I don't have access to my computer!
I just bought a U430 touch and am trying to put in an SSD (Sandisk Ultra Plus 256 GB).
I followed the instructions in how to open the cover and take out the hard drive as listed in the maintenance manual. I created a USB boot drive and changed the boot order to the USB. But when I try to press the Novo key to then proceed with Windows installation, the power light and keyboard just starts blinking slowly. I've tried powering it on instead of using the Novo key and the same thing happens.
I've tried to do this with and without the USB drive plugged in. I also then put the old hard drive back and put the back cover back on and it is still doing it. I thought maybe that just means it's in sleep mode but pressing the power or pressing keys does not work...
