I got a new 250GB hard drive for my HP Compaq 6820s hard drive a few weeks ago and now I can't boot from it as it's been infected with a virus which prevents it from booting. [I get a brief flash of the infamous "Blue Screen" before it returns to the HP screen.
Is there any way; software-wise that I can clean the hard drive of any viruses if I put it in an external caddy?
I've decided to sell my Compaq 6820s laptop and use the money to put towards buying a iPod Touch 64GB but I'm looking for a set of Recovery Disc ISO's to wipe the system clean before selling it on after backing up my data [for which I'll have to do it onto my other laptop by copying the data onto my other laptop then copy the data onto an external hard drive] as I can't access the recovery partition...
View 12 Replies View RelatedI installed Ashampoo Burning Studio 9 yesterday to burn some DVD's/CD's for archiving purposes on my HP6850s using Windows 7 Ultimate, and while I can burn CD's/DVD's on my Toshiba laptop, I can't burn them on this one as for some reason, Windows 7 Ultimate couldn't find the DVD drive when it was installed and I don't know what the exact details for it are so I can download drivers for it.
Is there any way I can get Windows 7 Ultimate to recognise the drive so I can burn my discs?
I remember that the disc drive used to be available but at one stage, I attached a external drive to it which I removed properly and I don't know if that might have something to do with it...
I managed to create a Recovery Disc last night using the hard drive from the 6820s in an external caddy and accessed the Recovery CD creator that way.
But now I'm having a problem trying to reinstall Windows Vista as when I accessed the section concerning the complete format and reinstallation of Windows Vista; I got the following message:
Error 0x400 100130000 1002
If this issue continues, please contact HP Support.
how I can fix the problem that this message is referring to?
I somehow got infected with a horrible virus, I think it was possible a trojan horse or something along the lines of that. So then, I restarted my computer, but I chose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt".
However, it started listing a bunch of files on the black screen, so I shut it off, and tried to restart it, but failing.
Then, the computer said I should do a "system restore", so I found my system restore CD's, and had the computer do a system restore. Everything was going well, and when it finished restoring, I restarted it, yet again to see a message saying there was a fatal error and I need some sort of software or something.

But recently my laptop affect with virus which is not allowing to login into window xp, as soon as I login it get logs of immediately and i decided to reinstall xp,So while booting the computer I pressed to F11 to load HP recovery option and it loads but after few point no display on the screen. So, I don't know what to do. If I get some recovery CD/software so that I can download and write in it and load in my affected computer.Or Can you please suggest how do I load windowsxp freshly in my laptop. After a month of usage I suspect some virus and spyware in my laptop because some of my friends browsed unprotected websites. Will the virus and spyware affect the recovery partition? Now if I create a recovery disc from the recovey partition will it be safe to use those discs or will it be affected by virus and spyware?

It is not recongnizing the CD/DVD ROM so I can't use the Recovery Disc. It won't let me use a command prompt. If I could get it to let me do a clean sweep maybe I can run the software on it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had my Inspiron E1505 for about 2 1/2 years and dont get me wrong, i love my comp... i recently got a really, really bad virus and i tried running my anti's and it won't let me.. tried running microsoft's live scan and won't let me do that... i tried turning it on about 30 minutes ago and as soon as i log on it automatically logs me right back off even if i try it in safe mode... when it would let me turn it on it would make occasional random sounds.. i really need my laptop up and running again

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been getting different problems that are crippling my PC now (E1705), it could very well be a virus, as my little sister was on here a day before they started, although I ran AVG and Trendmicro housecall scans and got nothing.
The first problem I got was an "ieframe.dll bad image" error. It caused various programs to not work, from IE, to games, to AIM, and even seemed to mess up certain websites? (facebook).
I replaced that DLL file and no-longer get the error, but the same programs don't work I get ***.exe errors now on various programs or they just simply don't come up. Not quite sure what the problem is, I've tried system restore, virus scans, chkdsk and have had no sucess.
I am about to take delivery of a new M4400 with all the bells and whistles, running vista ultimate 64, and plan to upgrade to Win 7 in the near future.
My faithful Latitude D600 circa 2003 has been running on AVG free edition and without significant issues, and also I am using Zone alarm as the firewall.
I am not certain you can get these in 64 bit, or even if they are the better solutions these days, so looking for alternatives.

View 7 Replies View Relatedrecently got hit with a bunch of trojans when using Internet Explorer. I managed to clean them off or so I thought. Periodically, when I open Internet Explorer my virus scanner detects a trojan.
Since the original trojan screwed up my computer to a degree I had decided to reload my operating system anyway.
If I hit F8 at boot and do a factory restore will this reload the disk to the state it was in when I originally received it? Will this also get rid of these viruses that seem to still be plaguing my system?
My daughter has managed to get a virus on my laptop which has completely wiped it out, it won't start windows, it won't do anything. Its an acer aspire laptop and I worked out it has a partition from googling and did the Alt F10 thing which seemed to work a dream, did a restore to factory defaults etc. etc. but it then started to load windows, I had to choose my location,enter username and password etc. etc. and then nothing, just a blue screen (which is the windows backdrop) and nothing. I've taken the battery out after about 2 hours, restarted the computer and it did the same again and has now been sitting at this blue screen for an hour or so, should I do Alt F10 again? or am I just suppose to wait it out?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dell XPS m1530, and because I am pretty sure I had a virus that my antivirus software could not pick up I reinstalled Vista.
I ended up reformatting the partition it was on before installing over, I also reformatted the recovery partition. But, apparently XPS system comes with a MediaDirect partition that I was unable to reformat (the windows set up did not let me do this).
I am wondering now if it's possible for the virus to have lived through the reformat in the MediaDirect partition. If so, how can I reformat that partition?

Apple iPad users targeted by 'iTunes' virus
It may have only been on the shelves in the US for a few weeks but the Apple iPad has already been hit with a virus.
BitDefender has reported that it has found malware links are being sent to iPad users which disguise themselves as an iTunes update.
The malicious link comes in an email, explaining that if you update your iTunes you will be given "…best performance, newer features and security".
Once clicked, any sensitive data stored on the users' iPad may be used for exploitation.

Just got my new Macbook Pro 13 a few days ago, so far I love it but not used to the MAC OS so I have a few questions.
1. Is there a way to see the actual signal strength/transmission information for the Wifi connection other then the 4 little eclipses? Doesn't seem like I'm getting a full wireless-n signal but somewhere around wireless-g.
2. When I install a program or at least it has happened with AppCleaner and Firefox, it put an icon on the desktop, sort of like when I have a DVD in with the Eject, Get Info ... etc options, I managed to remove them by choosing the Eject option. Is this normal?
3. Do I really need a virus scanner, I've seen a 50/50 split on yes and no.
4. Any sort of optimizations I should do?
I purchased a Pavilion 15-n228us Notebook with Windows 8.1 in April. Several weeks ago, I searched for Microsoft Photo Editor, which I thought included in Start Menu, somehow, I was guided to some site for a free download. To make a long story short, I accidentally downloaded some unwelcome adwares - not mention I still don't have the photo Editor. Anyway, I removed most these programs through Control Panel - Uninstall Program except the last one. This one is called "blasteroids", every time when I tried to uninstall it, it gave me a message of "SEIS (or EISS??) launching failure" and Norton 360 popped up saying an installer with .exe file containing Trojan virus was blocked. So now I am not able to remove this "blasteroids" and it pops up ads every time when I visit a website.

My notebook randomly freeze in different situation without any cloue, running a game or also just in windows folders and only solution is reboot whole system. I have try to recovery to factory configuration but nothing have changed.
