Nov 13, 2014I was trying to install windows 7 when i got the "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GTP disks etc" Error.
I know i needed to disable something in bios but this laptop's bios isn't very detailed , i tried disabling the Legacy boot and now the laptop doesn't boot up anymore, not even in bios. When i power it on all i get is a black screen and the Caps lock blinks twice.
I tried pressing the windows key+B+ power button for one second while the laptop is shut down but it didn't do anything.
Dell Latitude E5530 :: Won't Play My CDs Or DVDs
Mar 8, 2013When I first got my laptop, I was able to play all the CDs in order to download my software, etc. However, now it won't recognize any CD I put in or launch anything. I'm trying to install an Epson printer and I put in the software CD. Nothing will happen. I can hear it whiring and I keep thinking that it'll launch but nothing does. This is what it looks like with the CD in:
Doesn't even show up on the side bar. I can't have a laptop that can't even recognize CDs or DVDs.
Dell Latitude E5530 :: Battery Not Recognized
Nov 19, 2014We are having a serious problem with the battery that we replaced for one of the Dell laptops. The Laptop model is Dell Latitude `E5530. We were getting a message that the Battery has to be replaced and we bought this battery from one of the third party vendors.
It ran for 2 weeks and now it comes up with some weird messages. The laptop isn't detecting the battery at all. We had sent the battery back to the vendor but he says the battery works fine at their end.
Dell Latitude E5530 :: Not Booting After BIOS Update
Nov 21, 2013Updated Bios to A12 today, the system stated the updated was successful but after it's auto reboot it longer boots.
When you turn the system on the screen stays powered off (nothing on the screen, and no back light). The HD and WiFi lights stay on, the battery light flashes.
I've tried removing the battery and powering with just the mains adapter, I get the same problem.

Dell Latitude E5530 :: TouchPad Feature Disables When USB Mouse Present
Jan 6, 2015Okay, I can't get the "feature" of the touchpad to work where it "disables when a USB mouse is present"
Reason: There is a perpetual bluetooth mouse appearing in the device manager.
I actually have 3 mouse devices listed: Touchpad, HID-Compliant (bluetooth), and HID-Compliant (Wifi). Numbers 1 and 3 are correct. Number 2 is not really there,
When I pull the WiFi dongle, the #3 mouse correctly goes away, leaving me with two.
Clearly, the touchpad is detecting a "HID-Compliant" mouse "on bluetooth". BUT THERE IS NO MOUSE PAIRED. I tried to uninstall the bluetooth software from Add/Remove (or whatever Win7 calls it this year), but the device is still there. So I did an "uninstall" of the device in the device manager, and it comes back. (yes rebooting between all attempts)
So, something, somewhere, is claiming to be a mouse on the bluetooth stack. How do I make it go away, since it's not really there? Because it is causing the touchpad software to disable, thinking there is another device.
Additionally, when I forgot my mouse, I tried to activate the touchpad... Do you realize that it is completely *impossible* to manipulate the user interface to the Tochpad applet in the control panel without a mouse in the first place??? You cannot make the "save" button activate. This is the ultimate in poor usage design.

Jul 27, 2014From time to time, nearly every day lately, my computer will get an alert in the system tray that the SATA drive is disconnected. It will then freeze and not come back. I have to restart the computer and then I get a blue screen that says "INVALID BOOT DEVICE". Windows will then send me in to the system recovery screen where my only option really is to do a system refresh. I have also tried the Lenovo One Key Recovery. At this point the computer is like having a new copy of Windows on it.
Lenovo support says this is a software issue and my "warranty" doesn't cover it. The computer is only 5 months old and has had this problem for 2 months.
The computer will work for a short time, sometimes up to a week and will do it again. Lately I'm having to do this nearly every day, sometimes twice a day. I've tried updating the drivers, not updating the drivers (after a refresh), doing all the windows updates or not doing any updates at all and the results seem to be the same no matter what.

Acer Aspire M :: Boot Configuration File Being Invalid - Cannot Access BIOS
Dec 26, 2014My Aspire M laptop will not boot due to the 'boot configuration file being invalid', at least, this is what the 'Recovery' blue screen states. The blue screen offers to 'Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings, but is not responsive. I've tried F2, F8, F10, Alt+F10, F12, Space Bar, Delete and Break to try to activate the BIOS interface, all equally unsuccessful.
I followed the instructions to purchase recovery tools from Acer, but without being able to access the BIOS to set the boot order, I've just sunk another $25 into a laptop that doesn't work. The cost of service exceeds the cost of the laptop, so I'm inclined to continue trying to repair it myself. If it cant' be repaired, there is little chance I'll purchase a new Acer to replace it as this has been a very frustrating experience.
Dell XPS 13 :: Returning 8GB Hibernation Partition To Main OS Partition
Mar 11, 2012I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.
1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?
2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.
3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?
Dell :: Latitude D630 Vs Latitude E6400
Jun 19, 2009The price of 2nd user Latitude D630's seems to be holding up quite well in the UK. Does this indicate that it is still a popular machine and favoured over the E6400?
I briefly checked out an E6400 the other day and for a choice between machines of approximately similar spec I would opt for the D630 rather than the newer E6400.
I would be interested in opinions from users who have experience with both models.
Dell :: Latitude On ECM As Compared To Latitude On FLASH
May 27, 2010We are looking at getting some Latitude E4310 systems. Since fast boot up to access the web is important, we see that the Latitude On FLASH option is required.
The downside is that Dell will not install this along with the WiMax card option. They have a combo WiFi and WiMax card, but it can not be installed with the FLASH option.
They also list Latitude On ECM as an option instead of On FLASH. The ECM runs $149 more. With ECM, the system can then have the WiMax card which would be nice.
The people at Dell have not been able to provide a good explanation on what the ECM option does. There is a write up on the FLASH option, but not a good one on ECM. Does anyone know what the ECM does differently than the FLASH?

Wi-Fi and LAN 10/100/1000

Which do you reckon i ought to go for between the two?
The laptop will be used primarily between home and university, so will be taken between the two places in my shoulder messenger bag, so will probably take a few bumps

Aug 12, 2007The Dell Recover Partition is a great idea and everything, but is it worth it? I tried creating a new partition on my harddrive to store my music and it won't let me because the drive is all locked up. I want to format the whole drive and start fresh so I can have a seperate partition for my personal files. This means getting rid of the recovery partition. They shipped me an XP installation disc, but no drivers...I can download those. Plus on the recovery partition there is a lot of bloatware.
