Dell :: M1530 Not Charging
Apr 26, 2009
I currently own an M1530 and just today I had this problem of battery not charging. I ran the laptop on battery and did a diagnostic from bios, after like 2hrs the laptop shut down,
I guess it was because of empty battery. When I plugged in and switched on, it said "plugged in, not charging" and the battery was at 0%. Then I tried to take the battery out

I have a dell xps m1530. Yesterday, suddenly a problem developed. The laptop charges for a few secs and then the battery icon says plugged in, not charging. i was having this wierd behavior of my laptop where battery woudnt charge above 6%, ive tried most of the "solutions" on the web, but none of them worked.
-Desinstalling Microsoft's ACPI-Compliant control method battery
-Doing a vista clean install
-Restarting/Removing/Plugging the battery from the laptop with the system running and shut down, and all sorts of combinations between.
-Trying different AC (from dell, some of my friends have got some dell systems, i tried a m1330 AC)
-Tried to find a battery calibrator, but was unsuccesful, and even tried to downgrade my BIOS, but couldnt because my battery wasnt charged above 10% (thats a requisite to flash the BIOS)
NONE OF THOSE WORKED.
So i called dell, they told me to go to the BIOS, tech guys told me that the problem could be figured out there by 2 ways, it'd either:
-Recognize the AC adapter (in due case, it was a battery problem)
-Or it wouldnt recognize it (in which case, it would be a MoBo or a AC adapter problem.
Turned out it recognized the AC adapter, so next step was to send me a new battery, since i had a 6 cell battery (which the dell guy confirmed after i gave him the serial number of the battery) i expected to receive a 6 cell battery replacement, but no, lucky me i received a 9 CELL BATTERY INSTEAD, free within warranty period (system is only 7 months old) so yeah, im happy, and my battery is charging again.
Everything is fine, so i thought i would share this info for you guys.
One thing to get in consideration: The embedded battery health indicator might not indicate that the battery is healthy, since my faulty battery had 5/5 green lights when i tried to check the health but was still faulty (my new one has 5/5 health lights and works wonderful)

i installed the Bios A12 for XPS M1530, my battery has been giving me the "plugged in, not charging" message. I've read in other threads that going back to Bios A09 fixed the problem for some people. I want to try that myself, but the problem is i can't install Bios A09 because my available battery left is only 4%. And the only way i would be able to install the Bios A09 is if i have at east 10% battery available. Since my battery can't charge,

I have an older Inspiron 6400 (looks like the 1505) that isn't charging the battery. The bios indicates that the battery is charging, and that it is performing normally. There isn't a red flashing battery indicator, but when the laptop is powered on there isn't any "green light" indication of the battery, either. The AC adapter performs normally ( Charger is a PA10 (90watt) and it works fine on my D800, and charges that battery normally).
What I don't understand is why the BIOS indicates the battery is charging and that the battery is performing normally. However, when I have the system up and running there isn't a green battery indicator light on the button strip. Let me clarify that statement. During the initial boot phase of start-up there is the green indicator light on the button strip, but as the OS finishes loading this light goes out and the battery doesn't charge.
Could this be caused by a faulty Bios update, or is it something with the battery charging circuit of the motherboard? The laptop operates normally when using the AC adapter, just no indication of the battery charging when the OS is fully loaded. OS is Windows XP Pro (SP3).

My Laptop is 1 year and 5 months old. There are 2 problems I am facing with my battery:
1) When it is charging, at around 86% level, it stops charging and I see an orange light blinking at the battery icon and it continues to blink unless I turn the power off and allow the battery to discharge for a while.
2) at around 45% to 50% level, the battery level suddenly drops to 7% level and then I have to charge again.
Because of these issues I now use my laptop as a desktop. It is always plugged in and I use the option of "Stop Charging" in the windows power settings. how to solve the problem.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

I have just encountered a problem with my Inspiron 7520 laptop. The laptop is plugged in and notes 'charging'. Problem is that it is not charging and battery has been at 0% for a week now.
Battery meter notes the battery is charging and that the battery is working normally. I have run the 'My Dell' systems test and it failed on the battery with error code WBT02-GX1...

My E1705 battery refuses to charge. I had a bum power adapter which I had replaced. Got the new one today and it still won't charge my battery.
What occurs is that I plug in the power and the battery icon in Win7 indicates it is charging. The charging animation in Win7 continues until your battery is charged. But in my case after about 30sec the animation stops, and show a quarter charge and never fully charges.
This indicates a faulty battery I'm assuming? It wouldn't be the power port would it?

My AC Adapter isn't being recognized by my system and won't charge my battery. Windows installed a couple updates recently, but other than that
I can't think of any reason that it would be doing this... Its the same adapter that came with the system, the only one that I've ever plugged into this computer ......

I recently got the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" message in vista of my Dell XPS 1530.My laptop is out of warranty .I tried all the methods suggested and flashed the bios to A09 from A12.I also checked the BIOS and it says
Battery Charge = 6%
Charger = 90W
Also when I connect the charger the charging light would flash for 5 sec. and then go off.Due to this the battery charge has moved from 6% to 7%.
I cannot buy a new mbd worth $500 . Any other cure for this ????

The case has been falling apart and now my battery is not charging.
Are all dells complete wastes of money like this? My much cheaper Acer outlasted this hunk of crap.
Anyhow, according to the computer my battery is dead and needs to be replaced, but why the hell does the battery have such a crap life? or is it something else? This laptop has spent 90% of its life on the A/C charger

Had an E1505 for a few years now, and with the exception of a HD failure/subsequent replacement, it's been absolutely great.
Recently though, it gave me the error message "adapter not recognized, blah, blah, blah" message upon POST...
Tried a different adapter as well, but no luck. It runs off the adapter(s) just fine, but won't charge, so I'm permanently attached to a cord until I get this fixed

My Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook is plugged in but will not charge. The battery is completely drained and the power will immediately shut off when the power cable is unplugged. The battery meter indicates "O% Available (plugged in, not charging)". Every time I restart it I am told to plug in a Dell charger with 45 watts or greater. Thinking my charger might have been the issue, I just purchased a Dell replacement charger, and it is still not recognizing it. I have seen on other posts that indicate a possible solution is to update the BIOS; however, when I download and try to run the latest BIOS, I am told that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged in order to update.

my Dell XPS 15z is only ten months old while on my computer last night something popped up saying:
'The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.
Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation. Connect a Dell 130W adapter or higher'
i've always taken really good care of my laptop never dropped it or anything i hope that its not broke...
if it is broken and i have my year warranty do i still pay for whatever new part i need?

I have a two years old XPS M1730. A couple of months ago, the battery stopped charging even when plugged in. The battery light flashes red the whole time.
I have been told this may be a charger issue - do you guys agree? I'm out of warranty, so could do with the cheapest options first

i bought my dell xps L502X last june but recently my battery is giving me problems. sometimes when i connect my charger i get the following pop up. The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge.
Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation.Connect a Dell 130W AC adapter or higher.I've never used the battery badly. I always charge it to a 100% and then disconnect the charger and use the charge down to 7% until it asks me to plug in the charger. I keep disconnecting and reconnecting the charger or trying switching on and off the switch until it starts detecting my charger. I updated my bios to the latest version but nothing works. My laptop is still in the warranty till 22-05-2013.
