Would either of these models be ok for mobile recording? It would most likely be audio and some VST instruments (BFD for example).
I currently use Nuendo with a Pcmcia interface (RME Multiface). These Dells are the last laptops I've found that still offer Pcmcia. Pcmcia interfaces still seem to offer better latency than firewire interfaces.
I also have a large external drive I'd like to connect via esata.
The price difference is pretty substantial between the M6400 and E6500. Stability and good performance are naturally most important. I'd like to have a 17 inch screen (M6400) but can compromise with a 15inch screen (E6500).
I ordered new E6500 that came with Vista on it and I wiped that and have installed XP Pro SP2 on the machine. I have followed the guide on this page and installed everything in the correct order. The only thing that didn't install was the dial-up modem. It errored out and said "No MODEM device was found". Typically on the Latitude laptops I seem to remember installing the modem driver and it taking care of this entry in the device manager, but not this time.
There is a dial-up modem on the laptop and this is the only device that looks to not be installed. There is no webcam, WAN modem, or anything else like that.
Has problem with installing XP onto a E6500? Is the installer for the modem driver just bad or is there possibly something else going on.
Not sure what is causing this. Maybe someone else who had this issue and solved it can help me out. This is NOT the same as the crackling issue (which is solved by the Intel Matrix Controller drivers).
I am running Vista Business using the IDT drivers from Dell website. No other software from Dell installed other than the Matrix Controller driver. I am playing in Winamp. But notice it happens in WMP also.
CPU is not stressed at all. I am running on the High Performance profile (clock shouldn't be modulated).
anyone know the solution to the M6400 audio issue. Ive read many seem to have it.
Basically anything I play, no matter if its a streaming video from the internet, a DVD, or songs in my iTunes, the sound gives little "hits" every 10 to 30 seconds. Just split second hiccups.
Any info would be appreciated. As of last week anyway, I had all the latest drivers.
I have a Latitide E6500 with the Nividia Quadro NVS160M graphics card. I'm running Vista Business 32bit. My E6500 vid outs are s-vga and displayport. I use my laptop mainly in my home office and I would like some more real estate, when in the office 1440x900 is just not enough. When looking at monitors displayport does not seem a common input but most have HDMI.
I then looked at monoprice and saw two possible options for displayport -> HDMI, an adapter or a cable. What is the difference between the two and which should I use if I want both audio and video signals transmitted? Or am I stuck using a monitor that has a displayport input?
Im not getting the Advanced Controls in the IDT applet. Its only giving me "Enable Power Management", "Enable Jack Monitoring" and "Show System Tray Icon". clicking the Advanced gear/wheel looking icon thing does nothing..
Yup me again, in my hunt to determine if M6400 is right for me as it costs just about as much as a used car, I want to make sure its a good investment before I buy it.
What is the main difference with the M6400 and the M6400 Covet?
I configured both with the same specs and the Covet is about $900 more in price?
I'm trying to upgrade the operating system on my laptop. Preinstalled Windows 7 x64 Home Basic, and I update to Windows 8 x64 Professional. At the end of the installation process hangs and all I see on the screen - this is the logo in the center of the screen, a few words at the bottom and five frozen in one position points that previously ran in a circle.
I repeated the installation several times, but all of these attempts have ended the same way.
Have any of you have a similar situation and how you solved it?
I just did a clean install to Windows 7 professional 64-bit from Windows vista home premium 32-bit as my laptop is capable of running 64-bit version of windows.
However, i completely wiped out my drivers for my sony buttom functions such as the utility button for FN keys and also control centre, power management, event service and etc.
I have went to the Sony Europe esupport to get the drivers. Is there a particular order I need to follow while installing them since I read from somewhere that you need to install the drivers in a particular order for them to work since they are dependent. Also, many threads say to install the 'sony DLL utilities' or 'original utility package' file which does not apply to my Sony Vaio version. However, I did notice 'setting utility series' folder in the download driver section. Are they the same?
My x220T (Tablet) is current running on Windows 7 Professional. I was wondering if this device has all the drivers should I upgrade to Windows 8 Professional?

When I open a new window on my Dell Precision M6600 Windows 7 64 bit professional Laptop, that window will randomly have an "always on top" attribute. The problem does not seem to be related to any specific application.
The sound on my HP Pavilion G6-1a19wm is not working. Sound "does" work when using the audio jack with external speakers. I have tried uninstalling the driver, updating the driver, microsoft fix-it, and troublshooting steps. audio device shows in device manager and is supposedly working properly, mute is "not' enabled. visually all audio related things suggest that the audio is fine and troubleshooting finds no problems..
I have HP envy 15 j002er laptop. Originally I got it with Windows 8 but then I changed operation system to Windows 7 Pofessional (64-bit).I can`t install IDT high definition audio codec on it. I guess that is the reason why I don`t have and I can`t use Beats Audio interface on my laptop (only speakers are working). There are no audio drivers for Windows 7 available for download on HP website. When I`m cheking for driver updates via HP support, it proposes me only updates for Chipset, Graphics, Network, etc.And no Audio Driver..How can I solve it and install IDT high definition audio codec?
I have recently bought a new probook450 g2 but whenever i play a video or audio file an interrupt occurs like a buzz after fixed interval, I don't know what to do ......
HP Pavilion dv6-7030tx Entertainment Notebook PC Windows 7 Intel i7-3610QM CPU @2.3GHz 8Gb Ram
I have no audio. It has been previously working, but suddenly stopped. On the small speaker icon there is a red cross indicating "No Audio Output Device is enabled" When I log on to the computer i get a window that says "CWindowsSystem32AUDIOSES.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."
I have attempted to Troubleshoot but unable to get any sound. I have updated the Audio driver, but it is the up to date driver.

I have updated my HP Pavilion G6 2242sf to Windows 8.1 and the sound quality is not as good as in Windows 8 : In the Dolby control panel the equalizer works but switch the Dolby Advanced Audio checkbox has no effect so there is no more surround virtualization and the 3 effects "Movie", " Music", and "Voice" are not working anymore. Now my laptop speakers sounds choppy.
