FYI Dell released a new video driver for the studio laptops today.
It said it increases compatibility with external monitors. I wouldn't know since I've never hookem mine up to an external. But I will dl just to stay up to date. You can find it here:
Just purchased a 1555 with the radeon 4570 512mb GPU, Windows 7 64-bit, and performance is generally very good apart from one strange result. Windows experience index reports the following -
Processor - 5.7
Memory - 5.8
Graphics - 4.9
Gaming Graphics - 6.3
hard disk - 5.9
So the only low result is the desktop aero graphics performance at 4.9, which seems strange when the 3D businnes/gaming graphics score is 6.3. Other results i've seen posted on forums of the Windows 7 WEI scores are usually the same for desktop graphics and 3D graphics in Windows 7, which I would have expected as I understood that aero uses the GPU similarly to games. If anything, it looked like in most results the desktop graphics scores were slightly higher than the gaming graphics scores.
Does anyone know why I could be getting a lot lower desktop graphics score compared to gaming graphics?
I've checked the graphics drivers are up to date.
Can anybody else post their Windows 7 WEI scores from the 1555 with the 4570 512mb GPU?
Today, Dell updated the 32 and 64bit drivers for quadro FX3700 and FX2700 so head over to their site to update your system.
View 3 Replies View Relatedcan I install the latest ATI drivers from the official site, or do I have to get them from the Dell site?
(Actually..i can't seem to find them on the ATI site :S Does this mean you have to wait for Dell to update? Or am I just not looking in the right place?)
This is for a Studio 15
I have an Inspiron 1545 which was on Vista but I have just installed Windows 8. Pretty well everything works fine but my grandson purchased Minecraft to run on the 1545 but when it starts it immediate crashes saying the graphics drivers are incompatible. I have tried all sorts of driver update sites including Dell but simply go round in circles.

I can't even do it manually by downloading the updated driver from nvidia. I downloaded the newer driver and the only thing it let me update from my download was the audio driver. my geforce driver is still the same one 179.52. How do i get it up to 186.xx. i'm lost. also can i get rid of this "mywinlocker" what is that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not able to install the latest graphics driver from nvidia. It installs the latest GeForce Experience software but that says the 332.50 driver is up to date. The 337.88 driver is WHQL certified and lists compatibility with the 860m but when trying to install it, it says "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." On nvidia's website, it says "Your product manufacturer requires you to download a driver for your device from their website" but it's 332.50 is pretty outdated at this point. Any way I can get the updated drivers installed?

Have tried several times, re-downloaded the new version (sp61863.exe) but it goes part-way through installation and suddenly informs me that it now will install the 9.17.10.2963 version. It also keeps showing up as this version being the installed driver. Why can't I get the 15 .. version to install?

i will put flatly i do not game, however i do run alot of sort of UI fancy up stuff like topdesk, windowsblinds, and so forth, and id like to be able to run aero and output using hdmi
Ok so after all the speculation it has finally happened. Head over to dell.co.in and customise an xps 16 and you can upgrade the graphics card to a 5650. Unfortunately this wasn't the complete redesign many of us were hoping for, but at least its something. Anyone know what the performance difference will be?

Ubuntu 9.10 is perfect and to be true it too just works out of the box , given the fact that it has to support infinite pc configurations it is great !!!
Hail 9.10 .. and if you wont try you will surely miss something great. Where else do you have a resume and sleep time of 2-4 seconds. bootup time of less than 15 seconds ..
It doesnt have a lot more to take to catch up .. i am certain that in a year or so you will see emergence of linux everywhere .. Just that volume is what promotes things,
if a lot of people start using linux, a lot of hardware manufacturers will be forced to give better drivers and support.
Please update to the revision immediately and post your results here. It seems importance is rated as Recommended and not urgent, so I'm not sure whether or not the system downclock and fan issues have been fixed, which is quite an urgent matter.
If someone could get a log file of the changes from Dell that would be great.
Update: Thanks Weegie:

These things look sOoOoOoO important .
During the flash, the only thing that appeared was "Updating Keyboard Controller ROM", but I don't know if that's regular or not. I will be gaming with this new revision and posting results soon.
All in all, nothing to see here. Seems like Dell either a) does not read our threads, or b) does not care. Nothing to see here .
I can't get Vista Business x64 to recognize the graphics driver. Both Catalyst and XtremeG install fine,
but when I reboot the highest resolution I have is 1400x1050 and Windows only displays 'Standard VGA graphics adapter' in device manager.
Is this a common problem or do I need to do something else? I know the XPS m1330 had a quirk where you needed to install the SATA driver before installing windows which had me baffled for hours...
I recently purchased a Dell Studio 1737 for mainly college, everything about this laptop is great, except the graphics card, the infamous Intel Media Accelerator.
I would like to know if there's anyway to replace, or would I have to get another motherboard to replace it, and if I have to replace it I would like to know a estimate of how much it would be,
and personally I would like a high end Nvidia card =], not so much ATI.
Dell is offering driver version 8.631.0.0000 (A09) for the mobility radeon 4570HD on their site.
I'm currently running modded catalyst 9.9 and the current driver installed is 8.632.1.2000.
Any reason I should use the Dell driver in this case or should I just keep on using the modded AMD one (which will probably be updated on a more regular basis)?
I purchased a Dell Studio 15 last June, and since I have gotten it has yet to continually play any game.
I have installed Call of duty 2, and call of duty 4. I can play call of duty 2 for about 30 minutes before I begin to have graphical issues.
On the other hand, call of duty 4 experiences graphical difficulties immediately when i begin playing.
The strange thing is though that I have played call of duty 4 without any difficulties. I have called dell and installed/reinstalled the drivers and it doesn't work
Just bought a 1737 yesterday but the dell website crashed after I'd made he specification, so I had to do over.
Long story short, second time I selected the components I managed to miss upgrading the graphics card from integrated intel to dedicated ATI.
The status is currently "preparing for delivery" and I need to have the order amended to include the dedicated graphics
I bought my Aspire E5-511G few days ago.
I installed Windows 7 professional (x64) successfully.
I installed all the drivers downloaded form the support section also successfully.
The problem is that on approximately every 5~10 minutes I get the following message:
"display driver intel hd graphics drivers for windows 8(r) stopped responding and has recovered".
This message by itself is not annoying. The problem is that during skype video call after getting this message I don't see anymore nor my own video nor the video of the called.
Not only this, restarting the call does not fix the problem.
The only solution is to restart skype but this also does not work everytime.
I had similar issue with youtube videos but I fixed the problem by setting NVIDIA as preferred graphics processor for the browser application, however I don;t have such option for skype.
Hi, the Precision 6300 is out in Norway, but only with the FX 1600 graphics option yet.
But you can opt for the x7900 extreme cpu..

It looks like Dell will be upgrading to the mobility HD 5730 (which is lame, by the way, since there will amost certainly now be no gddr5 memory but thats for another thread).
But my question is whether they have enabled the switchable graphics or are making us pay for an IGP we will never be able to use.
I'll bet the lazy engineers at Dell wont bother with it and argue that you dont need intergrated graphics if you have discrete graphics and so on ......
