What applications do you recommend installing on a brand new E6400?
Whats Anti-Virus, Firewall and so on...
I have a problem with the Finger Print Control Centre, in that I cannot open the application. I can open 'Edit Fingerprints' (User Enrolment) and other menu items, but not 'Start Control Centre'.
This is the same if I select from taskbar, from start menu, from windows explorer (ctlcntr.exe) and also if I run it as administrator. I have upgraded the Protector Suite to version 5.8.2 but am not sure if this is the cause. I have downgraded back to 5.6 (Sony version) but the symptoms are the same.
The application flashes briefly as if it is opening but closes again immediately(less than 1 second).
The only bit of the problem driving me nuts is the inability to open Control Centre, as I want to change some settings.
i installed the wrong one and it now pops up with log on every 20 minutes and the fingerprint reader does not work . Tried uninstall , stiil asks to log on al the time , what do i have to delete to get rid of it ? Installed suite for 8530 on 8510 , for win 7 ult 64 . tried in safe mode , deleted credntial manager suite in registry along with authentec and acvt crap.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I had the Upek fingerprint reader on my old M1530 and loved it but the new SXPS 1640 I have only came with the Facial Recognition and it blows. I was thinking about getting a upek usb fingerprint reader and buying the PS software, but I was wondering if it will run fine on my system and whether or not it would be worth it?
View 8 Replies View Relatedif i can uninstall anoying protector suite from my new VAIO Z series and is it safe to do it?
I dont use sensor,fingerprints etc...
Only thing im concerned is that this app has something to do with computer performance and passwords so im still holding on it.
DVDs will load successfully and play, but BlueRays will not, even though this computer has a BlueRay player and the Cyberlink software to play them. It recognizes the BlueRay title, appears to load the disk and then returns to the initial screen and does nothing. When I click play, Cyberlink asks if I want to restart or resume playing. Either button I select returns me to the beginning of the process.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so after all the speculation it has finally happened. Head over to dell.co.in and customise an xps 16 and you can upgrade the graphics card to a 5650. Unfortunately this wasn't the complete redesign many of us were hoping for, but at least its something. Anyone know what the performance difference will be?

Ubuntu 9.10 is perfect and to be true it too just works out of the box , given the fact that it has to support infinite pc configurations it is great !!!
Hail 9.10 .. and if you wont try you will surely miss something great. Where else do you have a resume and sleep time of 2-4 seconds. bootup time of less than 15 seconds ..
It doesnt have a lot more to take to catch up .. i am certain that in a year or so you will see emergence of linux everywhere .. Just that volume is what promotes things,
if a lot of people start using linux, a lot of hardware manufacturers will be forced to give better drivers and support.
Please update to the revision immediately and post your results here. It seems importance is rated as Recommended and not urgent, so I'm not sure whether or not the system downclock and fan issues have been fixed, which is quite an urgent matter.
If someone could get a log file of the changes from Dell that would be great.
Update: Thanks Weegie:

During the flash, the only thing that appeared was "Updating Keyboard Controller ROM", but I don't know if that's regular or not. I will be gaming with this new revision and posting results soon.
All in all, nothing to see here. Seems like Dell either a) does not read our threads, or b) does not care. Nothing to see here .
Hi, the Precision 6300 is out in Norway, but only with the FX 1600 graphics option yet.
But you can opt for the x7900 extreme cpu..

I've just done a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Studio XPS 1640 but as is widely known there is certain software which isn't available in 'Dell Support Downloads' or 'My Dell Downloads'.
I find it incredible that you can pay Dell for software (X-Fi) and they don't provide customers with the install files. I've still got the original HD and the recovery partition is next to useless as it's just a pre-configured Vista install, no individual setup files. Trying to rip the files from the Program Files directory isn't feasible as there are files all over the place which would require manual registration.
The closest I've found to the Webcam software is this:
Creative Labs Webcam Manager Utility A04
But it's a really old version and doesn't work with the camera in the 1640.
I've spoken to tech support and they directed me to an X-Fi software update which is useless unless you have the original software installed. I've asked for the install CDs to be sent to me but I'm not holding much hope. Why the hell doesn't Dell just provide the programs for download in the support section?

First of all, I have no idea if this has already been covered on the "Precision M4400 Owner's Lounge" thread, I have not been following it for it getting longer and longer.
So, I opened a new thread to tell everyone that Dell has released BIOS A13 for the M4400. I installed it yesterday, and not only is my machine quieter under light load, its graphics performance is also higher - much higher, actually.
I used to think that my FX1700M was not affected by the downclocking, but now I stand corrected.
It WAS indeed downclocking heavily as it seems. When I was playing some UT3 a couple of hours ago, I suddenly actually had double(!) the frame rate compared to what I had with BIOS A12.
I maxed out some settings to see what would happen, and at settings that I was not able to make it run smooth some weeks ago I now got 30 to 40 frames per second

1- 10.3 From AMD.com
2- 10.3 From strags.com
3- 10.3a review
4- From dell.com
COZ i feel that 10.3 is NOT the best driver
I installed 10.3 since it's release but it was a messy install. I downloaded the notebook version and whenever I choose install nothing happens. There is no option in windows 7 x64 to remove the program ....
View 5 Replies View RelatedFYI Dell released a new video driver for the studio laptops today.
It said it increases compatibility with external monitors. I wouldn't know since I've never hookem mine up to an external. But I will dl just to stay up to date. You can find it here:
I read a few sites today that said that Dell will be offering a upgrade program for those that buy the M1730 prior to the release of the Mobile 8800.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've updated my drivers through the Dell site from R221539 to R257949 and now suddenly I can't open the Catalyst Control Center.
After installation it said there's a warning in the log, I checked the log and there was nothing wrong there.
1. Download and run Catalyst v10.2 driver - let it extract into C:ATISUPPORT but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.
2. Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATISupport10-2_xxxx_dd_ccc_wdm_enu - hit modify - wait until driver is modified.
3. Open Device Manager - find your video card or VGA controller - right click and select Update Driver
