Hi, the Precision 6300 is out in Norway, but only with the FX 1600 graphics option yet.

I am trying to find out who the ODM ( original design manufacturer) is for these precision models, dell no longer sells them, perhaps there is another channel for buying one besides Dell???
If anyone has any information please let me know and also what model not just the ODM's name.
For example ALienware laptops are made by the ODM Clevo which also sells the same Chassis without the alienware bling and price under the name of Sager, Averatec also as I recall ....
I bought my M90 2 years ago when it was favourable in comparison to the then top of the line XPS. I preferred the screen and it looked much better IMO. So, now I'm looking for a new machine possible. Is there anything comparable to the 1730 in the Precision line?
View 15 Replies View Relatedseeing that Dell released a driver supporting 6300, I went and bought one to replace my 5100. Plugged it in, and it wasn't recognized. Fair enough, I went to reinstall the driver.. which immediately finished. Setup log said error discovering intel device, or something like that.
Problem is, the device is working fine as far as windows is concerned - it is detected, I can connect using windows networks screen. But ControlPoint Connection manager does not see it.
What am I missing?
Thanks to a post by PDSway, I got the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Advanced Wireless Card working fine with the Windows 7 64-bit 13.0 drivers on my XPS 1340.
Has anyone been able to successfully install the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Advanced Wireless Card 13.1.1.1 drivers for Windows 7 64-bit?
I get an error code saying it couldn't find the digital signature for the driver
Just upgraded the WiFi card from 6200 to 6300 AGN in my new Z
Also, I used the Mini PCI-E WiFi Antenna from ebay:
2x MINI PCI-E Antenne Wireless WiFi 802.11N A/B/G/N AGN bei eBay.de: Komponenten (endet 20.05.10 22:20:07 MESZ)
Antenna fits nicely into disassembled/"lightened" Lenovo UltraBay III adapter and can be bolted with a small screw so it is completed fixed.
I recently bought a centrino 6300 wifi card from ebay with the correct FRU (60Y3233) from a centrino 6205. The new card detects networks but it cannot connect to the networks.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOk so after all the speculation it has finally happened. Head over to dell.co.in and customise an xps 16 and you can upgrade the graphics card to a 5650. Unfortunately this wasn't the complete redesign many of us were hoping for, but at least its something. Anyone know what the performance difference will be?

Ubuntu 9.10 is perfect and to be true it too just works out of the box , given the fact that it has to support infinite pc configurations it is great !!!
Hail 9.10 .. and if you wont try you will surely miss something great. Where else do you have a resume and sleep time of 2-4 seconds. bootup time of less than 15 seconds ..
It doesnt have a lot more to take to catch up .. i am certain that in a year or so you will see emergence of linux everywhere .. Just that volume is what promotes things,
if a lot of people start using linux, a lot of hardware manufacturers will be forced to give better drivers and support.
Please update to the revision immediately and post your results here. It seems importance is rated as Recommended and not urgent, so I'm not sure whether or not the system downclock and fan issues have been fixed, which is quite an urgent matter.
If someone could get a log file of the changes from Dell that would be great.
Update: Thanks Weegie:

These things look sOoOoOoO important .
During the flash, the only thing that appeared was "Updating Keyboard Controller ROM", but I don't know if that's regular or not. I will be gaming with this new revision and posting results soon.
All in all, nothing to see here. Seems like Dell either a) does not read our threads, or b) does not care. Nothing to see here .

First of all, I have no idea if this has already been covered on the "Precision M4400 Owner's Lounge" thread, I have not been following it for it getting longer and longer.
So, I opened a new thread to tell everyone that Dell has released BIOS A13 for the M4400. I installed it yesterday, and not only is my machine quieter under light load, its graphics performance is also higher - much higher, actually.
I used to think that my FX1700M was not affected by the downclocking, but now I stand corrected.
It WAS indeed downclocking heavily as it seems. When I was playing some UT3 a couple of hours ago, I suddenly actually had double(!) the frame rate compared to what I had with BIOS A12.
I maxed out some settings to see what would happen, and at settings that I was not able to make it run smooth some weeks ago I now got 30 to 40 frames per second

View 15 Replies View RelatedFYI Dell released a new video driver for the studio laptops today.
It said it increases compatibility with external monitors. I wouldn't know since I've never hookem mine up to an external. But I will dl just to stay up to date. You can find it here:
I read a few sites today that said that Dell will be offering a upgrade program for those that buy the M1730 prior to the release of the Mobile 8800.

Can someone test that and verify that the battery power consumption is similar to the vista?
There were many SR4 laptops sold in May 2009 in China suffering the problem of stopping responding randomly and frequently, which caused quite a lot of hot threads discussing.
Sony identified the problem as some bugs in BIOS firmware and hence released an update to fix this.

As a "side effect" some customers noticed that Sony has officially enabled the option of VT in BIOS settings!
This is quite unbelievable according to the usual style of Sony. Maybe it is because of the pressure from XP mode in the upcoming Windows 7.
Unfortunately the BIOS update still does not give SLIC 2.1 so to activate Windows 7 we still need SLIC 2.1 from Lenovo or other brands.

has anyone ordered and received a 17" Precision M6400 or M6400 Covet? Can anyone post when they ordered and received?
I just gave up on a month-and-a-half old order, and am trying to gauge whether I can actually expect the new one I placed to arrive. The sales rep, of course, will tell you "Oh Dec. 2nd is the worst case scenario, it should arrive before then!"
Ordered 9/26. Gave up and cancelled order 11/5.
Ordered again 11/5. Expected delivery: 12/2. (But will it make it)?
Oh and if you ordered a Covet, can you say whether it was glossy or matte screen? There seems to be great confusion on this! .......
general differences b/w the two Dell business models? I'm looking to buy a 15" notebook, and I think the business computers may be better than the consumer ones. However, I'm having trouble understanding the different models' differences b/w each other on Dell's website.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade my cheap consumer-grade laptop with something more robust. My uses are mostly software development as well as photography (Photoshop, etc.). I'm not interested in using this new machine for gaming (that would be a very secondary use).
I'm looking for a 17" laptop, so am considering both the Vostro 3700 and Precision M6500. I understand the system differences between these two machines, as well as the cost differences. Ideally, I'd like whatever I buy to last 3+ years without falling too far behind in technology, but on the other hand the Precision is very expensive (budgets suck).
Thus, would the new Vostro 3700, maxed out on configuration, be a worthwhile investment or, since I'm going to spend the money, should I go the extra mile and get the Precision? What would I miss (other than the graphics card mostly) if I go Vostro?
I've been agonizing over this for a good month or so and realize making a decision like this in a vacuum isn't going to happen, so let me know your thoughts.
Based on this post[url] it would appear the Media bay only allows for 1.8" hard disks!
Is this true? Can anyone confirm this is true for both models?
2xHDD is a must for me - running VMs on a single disk is a _real_ drag!
