i would really like some help in resolving a major problem I'm having with my inspiron 1520 display size/resolution.
I somehow managed to change the settings when typing in my password upon log-in and now the icons and screen text is too large for the desktop and overall appearance. Not sure which hotkey i activated but cannot revert back to the normal settings.
Purchased Probook 4530S. Win 7. I keep having teh screen print/size resolutiom change when using the touchpad. The pointer seems to "stick" and then when I move it, the screen will either get very smaller or larger. I continually have to hit ctrl + or - to get the screen size back to "normal". Is this something to do with the touchpad settings or pointer?

I looked up the problem on the web and the solution was to push a certain key (like shift, ctrl or fn) and at the same time push the + key till the desired size was reached. I have been looking for the similar procedure to decrease the huge type size, to no avail.

However, the game checks the default graphic memory size and the default value is 32M, which is so small that the game just won't run even if the overall performance is enough for this game... View 2 Replies View RelatedI am considering purchasing an XPS 1530 for both gaming and business use/travel and am having a hard time deciding which screen to purchase? I do play various simulation games and know that the 8600gt gpu is a low/mid level card that would run games and look better at lower native screen resolutions (if not now, then within the next year or two.) I am planning to keep this computer for about 3-4 years. On the other hand, I do like having more information fit unto a screen for web browsing and general typing work.
Should I go with the 1440x900 LCD/LED screen or stay with the lower 1280x800 screen?
any possibility of the sony z12 getting a bigger screen.. a 14" would make it the correct decision for me

I have a vaio laptop Model- PGC 6J2l after i updated to windows 7 i got Thick black bars on both sides of my screen going verticle. I was wondering if anybody would know how to re strech the screen. I have the resolution set all the way up and cant seem to find any other way to change the screen size..
View 8 Replies View Relatedhad a Dell 1735..screen resolution was perfect and webpages i visited looked nice and sharp etc...purchased a new Dell studio 1737 laptop and it seems that the default setting is 1920 x 1200..this makes everything very sharp but to small to work with...the correct setting for the correct size etc...seems to be 1440 x 900..but when i change the settings to this size everything is the correct size but not as sharp...and websites i visit such as Facebook etc..the text on these pages seems different..now, when I place my old Dell studio 1735 beside my new Dell studio 1737 my old laptop which is set at 1440 x 900..my old laptop looks far sharper and superior to my new laptop! My old 1735 has the highest setting for resolution at 1440 x 900 while the new 1737 seems to have a higher setting option of 1920 x 1200. Is there a big difference between the 1735 and 1737? Am I stuck with just keeping my setting on my new 1737 at 1440 x 900 and putting up with the blurriness etc? Have tried everything from going into Catalyst center to adjusting settings in appearance in vista etc..
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently formatted my Dell Latitude D520 laptop because of a frequent shutdown problem.
Also at the same time I have updated my BIOS setup file.
But now whenever i restart laptop, at the start up the DELL logo appears and also the windows logo and other messages appears in very small window rather than full screen size, till the machine gets fully loaded. Once the windows is loaded , it works well with full screen mode.
However, if i run any Command Prompt application, the screen get shrinks to small size, the same size which appears when the machine is booting.
On investigation, I found that
a) At every startup in BIOS setup Video/LCD Panel expansion is getting turned off and I have to manually enabled it at every startup
b) If i run any video/audio file the latptop instantly get turned off and may or may not restart for several days. Once it get turned off, it simply start getting turned off at every startup.
I have installed the drivers from the site, but problem persists.
Does it happens because I updated latest BIOS version? Shall i get old BIOS file from dell site?
I tried a search and couldn't find the answer. Does anybody know why the size of the mini screen changed from 10.2 to 10.1, the resolution dropped slightly because of that too. I bought one in November with the 10.2 and they are sending a replacement with the 10.1, any reason to just keep the 10.2 and repair it.

I'm set on getting a 1080p display in my next laptop and so far, Sony has the best choices! This is coming from someone who has purchased or influenced the purchase of about 17-18 Dell laptops.
can't see a thing on the screen. He left the laptop on hibernate for around 3 hours and when he came back, the screen was very dark.
He says he's restarted several times since then and the only thing which seemed to "light up" the screen was taking the power out; allowing the laptop to run on battery. However, just 5 minutes ago, even though the laptop was on battery, the screen has gone dark. He can barely make out MSN conversations by shining his lamp onto the screen but he can't see the mouse cursor.
The laptop is around 1 and a half years old.
My screen is broken (long story... lent laptop to a friend, came back all screwed up).
my question is: a) with a replacement screen, do I need a new inverter as well, or no and b) if so, would most replacement screens come with one???
My screen just shuts off sometimes. It goes black and i may or may not be able to get it working again.
Pushing buttons on the keyboard or moving the mouse does nothing, nor adjusting the display's brightness. When it goes on i can hear the "da-dam" sound that Vista makes when you connect/disconnect something to/from a USB port.
It is very annoying as you might deduce...
A friends 1520 inspiron screen is really dark. Tried changing inverter card to lcd but still dark. tried replacing video card still dark. someone suggested checking voltage from motherboard. Can you tell me where to check output ? External monitor works fine..
View 1 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron 1520, When you turn the laptop on, the BIOS load screen comes up and when the progress bar starts to scroll, it gets about 1/2" over and then the screen goes black. It is not the inverter, because if you take a flashlight, you can not see anything. The Cap Locks and Num Lock button will toggle the LEDs, but there doesn't seem like anything else is going on. I have tried hitting F2 on boot, as well as FCN +D and no luck. It is running A04 for the BIOS. I have also reseated the RAM and the display cable connectors. I have also plugged in a keyboard and monitor to see if that would change anything and it didn't. (I did hit the FCN+F8 after plugging in the monitor.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 1520 does not complete booting. It start booting, then the screen go black. I am currently doing is 'diagnostic test'. This also came back with no problem, but a window popped up and asked whether I want to continue to full diagnosis. I closed YES. I hope this solves the black screen problem.
Before this problem, the battery would go flat in 20-30 min when not connected to AC source.
I have a 1 year old inspiron 1520 laptop which has suddenly stopped working.
When I press the power button, the power light comes on but I don't hear a fan whirring, the battery light also comes on. The screen is totally blank and the caps lock icon continually flashes and after about a minute the computer shuts down.
This happens with the battery attached or connected to the mains.
Today, I tried connecting an external display to my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 laptop, via a USB hub, only to discover that using the touch screen points at the corresponding part of the external display rather than the inbuilt one (the displays are being extended). Can this be changed?
I'm using the same 64-bit Windows 8 installation and drivers that the computer came with.
for some reason the on screen display meter for my volume when pressing on the keyboard suddenly disappeared, I would like to get this back. I found this thread in the forum URL.... which another was having the same problem I'm having. The only difference is that I'm using HP Pavilion G7 with Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently whenever I startup my laptop the display flickers. If windows fully boots or I try to enter one of the startup menus the will flash briefly on the screen and then the display will return to and remain black.
I am able to run an HDMI cable to my TV and it seems to be running fine other than going black with the occasional distorted picture of windows booting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

HP laptop will turn on but no screen is displayed. I have tried hard resets and external displays to no avail as well as trying to connect it to an external monitor and my T.V. as well with an HDMI cord. When you push the power button the fan, hard-drive, Processor and LED lights all work. I have taken apart the laptop best I could without getting myself lost to check for faulty wiring and I couldn't find anything wrong or out of place. Nothing was loose at all.
How this happend is from what I hear they were watching a youtube video and the sound went haywire and their screen went completely white. They couldn't fix the screen or sound problem so they manually shutdown the computer by holding in the power button. When they went to turn it back on everything started up as far as internals go but the screen remained black and if you let it run for a period of time you do not here windows startup. I took out their hard-drive and tested it on my own computer and it works fine so I know its not the hard-drive. Their RAM and Processor are tightly in place and appear to have no damage done to them. I was not able to make it to the motherboard when I took this appart because I did not want to lose my place with the screws and connections.

This problem has been persistent for quite sometime now.
After I boot up my laptop, there's a yellow solid screen which appears before the main starup page
comes on.
I have updated all the drivers, but the yellow screen is still appearing.
For the past few months I've had issues with my display on my laptop. At times I would start the computer and it would either go to a black screen and take a very long time to load or I had to restart it to get it to go to the start screen.

Recently my PC crashed and when it was reinstalled with all drivers from HP FTP i am having below problems.
When i am adjusting my brightness , it is getting adjusted but the adjusting bar usually shown in the screen is missing.
When i am adjusting my sound , it is getting adjusted but the adjusting bar usually shown in the screen is missing.
The studio 1555 I purchased this month was advertised as having a 320Gig HDD, my invoice says that the laptop included a 320Gig HDD, but the C: drive only advertises that it is 283Gig.
My quesion is, where has 37Gig gone? Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Is it just an odd way Dell have set up the initial partitions and if I were to do a complete format and reinstall I would be able to see, and use, 320Gig?
