View 10 RepliesI have found out that the touch pad surface extends further than it should. I have a habit on leaning on my elbow,
when I have my laptop on my legs I put my elbow on the palm rests. I found out quickly though that if I lean on it I end up doing a multi touch zoom,
to start off with I thought my system was just being rubbish but then I tested it again and it worked fine after I took my elbow off.
This must mean that the touch surface extends further than the edge of the "touchpad",
I just wonder how far it actually goes and whether we could make use of it .
I have Dell XPS 15 L502 machine bought 10 months back. I am facing a frustrating issue with touchpad.
Touchpad works ok but suddenly it freezes and stops working event the right - left click buttons. or sometimes a gentle finger on touchpad will randomly open and close the applications. The only solution to this is i restart my machine. This occurs frequently causing me to restart my machine atleast 20 times a day.
I googled this, and i saw i wasn't the only one, it seemed like a common problem. I heard this is a Bios update for this.
My laptop gets extremely hott and will cut off if dont hold the vent part in the air ..
I'm having a few problems with my recently acquired Studio 15.
I've done a few Crysis benchmarks and while the first run is ok, the second and third runs are progessively slower. By running GPU-Z in the background, I can see the GPU hitting temps of 80c and the clockspeeds throttling back, too. When the clockspeeds drop, the framerate drops - I'm 99% certain its the GPU causing the issues. The CPU - a Core i7 720QM - is fine, and hits peaks around 60c.
Already had a new cooler fitted, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar issues....
EDIT: The framerate fluctuations are most obvious if you load Crysis and just stand still. The framerate constantly shifts from 8fps to 15fps and back again.
The processor (Core 2 Duo T5750) is idling at about 54-57 C which I gather is relatively high. Is there anything I can do about this? I ran ORTHOS with HWMonitor and the peak temperature is about 64 C for both cores.
In general, it's not too hot of a laptop, but when stressed, sometimes the area to the left of the trackpad gets unbearably hot.
I'm considering a cooling pad, but preferably nothing too expensive or obscure.
So I've just bought a second hand studio 1640 from ebay (t9600 + 4670), got myself a 130w power supply and am running throttle stop (otherwise any games I play start to stutter within 20 mins or so).
I have noticed that the laptop gets insanely hot very quickly, even with the laptop lifted up a cm above the table to increase the airflow its at 100c on motherboard and nearly the same on CPU within 15 mins of me playing mass effect. i was wandering if anybody has any suggestions on how to make it run cooler?
Studio Touch 17 is now available, http://www.dell.com/content/topics/s...n&s=dhs&~ck=mn
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my studioxps 1640 was replaced with a 1645. I was glad I got an i7 and a 1GB video card upgrade due to many other issues with the 1640, but I'm having a terrible time with the 1645.
First off, when I first used the 1645 for 15 minutes, the fan turned on full blast. I was just using firefox, so I ignored it and thought the laptop was just getting broken-in. But the heat issue appeared regularly. If I don't turn off the laptop, the whole laptop shuts down to either a bluescreen or it just powers off. Sometimes a weird clicking/crackling noise will come from the fan area near the heatsink even when the fan isn't on! It's like a bunch of metal balls are falling down a pipe.
I've left the bottom cover open to check if the heat sink was dissipating heat, but for some reason the metal area on top of the i7 was burning hot but the copper "pipes" were actually cool/cold. I'm getting a heat sink and fan replacement and I'll let you know how that works.
Next issue: webcam. On the 1640, running the webcam at 640x480 produced no lag and smooth pictures, but the 1645 constantly jitters at 640x480. Is this is a common issue?
Lastly, the bluetooth card is giving me a terrible time. I have used windows 7 x64 on the 1640 and bluetooth gave me no problems, but on the 1645 it is horrendous. I've switched bluetooth cards between the laptops so it's not a hardware issue. However, I'm trying to connect a bluetooth mouse and the card will detect a mouse, but it will never connect to it. I've tried numerous other techniques I saw on other threads. I ran the driver utility in compatibility mode, I've installed windows mobile device center, I've even formatted the hard drive. any help?
is there a driver at all which enables multi touch in the touch pad i.e two finger scrolling?
or is it a two fingers up ?
I ordered a Dell Studio 1558 in late Feb, to receive it in early March.
then one fine day, Engadget breaks the news that 1558 anf 1749 will be avaliable with full touch screen (initially it was a "slip" on Dell on-line catalogue here on page 5. What you will see now is only 1749, but originally (I have it printed) there was also 1558 for $999.
Bang, I cancel the order, waiting anxiously for 1558 Touch screen to apprear on the web-site. After a few days, only 1749 appears as available with touch screen, the 1558 is "purged" from the catalogue, "replaced" (the pictures seemingly stay the same) the descrition of a cheaper 1749, still the $999 remained.
Questions:
1. Anyone knows what's going on? Is 1558 Touch Screen for real or only 1749 will get the touch screen?
2. If 1558 will eventually get the touch screen, any idea how long do I have to bite nails? Will the 1558 touch screen be availble with the full-HD 1920x1080 screen?
Anyone have it and have any opinions on the touch screen.
Do you use it?Is it a waste? Is it awesome?...
the touch thingy above the keyboard just stop working, ive install the all latest drivers via the dell website and nothing
View 10 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the Dell Synaptic Drivers v13.2.2.2, I seem to have gained additional touchpad gestures.
Along with the original chiral-scroll and two-finger zoom I now have:
-two-finger scrolling (vertical and horizontal)
-three-finger forward/back for web browsers and the Windows image viewer
-rotate
-three-finger quick launch (holding three fingers down for 1 second opens notepad)
-momentum (I'm not sure if this one is new)
The touch sensitive eject button on my new Studio 15 laptop appears to be stuck on. When I reboot the laptop, the media control lights flash back and forth as normal. However, the CD drive immediately ejects and the eject button light stays permanently on. This all happens the second the laptop comes on - long before it boots into Vista. This makes me suspect a hardware rather than software issue.
None of the other touch sensitive media controls work.
I've tried cleaning the button, checking for dirt under and on the button and rebooting the laptop. I also rested it overnight.
I only got the laptop on Friday.
My laptop is a Studio XPS 1645. I recently uninstalled some surplus programs and seem to also have accidentally uninstalled whatever lights up the touch buttons (e.g. volume control, pause/play, wireless on/off) What program this is and where/how i can get it back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm extremely careful not to have liquids anywhere near my keyboard. However I was drinking tea and felt I was far enough back that liquids should not even reach the laptop. I was probably about a foot back. Well one of my cats nudged my arm and hit it with enough force that a few drops hit the touch pad. I cleaned it up. This morning I turn my laptop on and now my left touch pad button does not work. I figured that I probably needed to clean it. So I pried the button off gently. And used a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned it off. When I pried it up it didn't look really dirty at all. There was no residue on the inside that I could see. I put the button back on, and it still doesn't work. So now I'm wondering if enough got inside to actually cause damage or if it's just coincidental that the button stopped working at the same time? I used it all the time for copying stuff and scrolling. I can use all the other buttons and scroll without using it.
Should the cleaning underneath have cured it if it was the liquid? If the liquid got past the underneath of the key itself then it should have affected the whole key pad not just one key, right?
I installed retail Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on Studio 1537 (the one in the signature) So far whatever I have tested, except the touch buttons, everything works.
I wonder if anyone knows how to get those touch buttons working.
Are there drivers or software that are needed for the Touch-Sensitive Multimedia Controls? I re-installed Windows 7 (for a cleaner start!).All of the Touch-Sensitive keys work but the CD/DVD eject.... will only work as Laptop is booting (but not in Windows).Other programs in Windows will eject the CD..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to make it so one finger tap would be left click and two finger tap would be right click. Is this possible. If so, how would I go about doing this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently ordered a SXPS 16 and have a potentially silly question about the touchpad.
For when I want to play a game and need to use a USB mouse is there a way to disable the touchpad like I can with my current ASUS G2S laptop?
Nothing is more annoying when trying to play a game and having inadvertant mouse clicks and movement because I can't or forgot to disable the touchpad while using a mouse.
I have got dell studio 1535. After a couple of days I noticed that my mouse cursor is moving very erratic. E.G. If you touch touchpad and move cursor in circle it's like jaming / stopping every 5 seconds for 0.5 sec.
I have done diagnostic, I reinstalled vista,Ubuntu, XP still this same.
My Studio 15 arrive and I found that the touchpad doesn't have the scroll areas draw in it, but they work as if they were. Is this a design issue?
View 9 Replies View Relatedbut i jsut can't seem to find my brain today...
i always use a mouse 100% of the times and honestly the touchpad is driving me nutz when i try to draw and/or use excel...
what are the ways of disabling the touchpad?
i have had this refurblished laptop for a few months now and recently it has developed a problem. When the touchpad plays up it will not respond and occasionaly will jump all over the place making it impossible to use.
It has been doing this for a few weeks usually about once a day which i thought was completley random, although about 5 minutes ago I discovered unplugging the charger solves the problem.
I purchased a brand-new Dell Studio 15 laptop with Windows Vista on it. I opened the package and started using it.
After few mins of normal usage i.e. no gaming, just browsing through the drives, checking pictures etc
(less than an hour) the touchpad started heating. I am not able to use it at all, its burning my fingers.
remember reading that the SXPS 16 has a Synaptics supported touchpad or something in it, meaning you can use some multi-touch gestures like pinch zoom etc. Can anyone clear this up for me? Do you have to do anything to enable the additional gestures? Will i need to download some more drivers or something (i haven't gotten my laptop yet.) What gestures will i be able to do with (or without) the driver (if there is one.)
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to "re-cushion" or do something to make the "press" of the button more with a nice, comfortable, normal distance press versus a small dull short distance press.
Basically my left touchpad button has worn down and isn't as "springy" as my right touchpad button which acts like new due to relatively less use.
If I told suppot at dell that the button was like this do you think they would repair it and if so how would they do it?
Do they have to remove the whole plate around the keyboard or something? Because that looks really set in.
I went on dells website and couldn't find the studio 14z drivers.
I heard the studio 14z supports multitouch. Also it has the same touchpad as my toshiba. Currently I'm using a dell driver for my touchpad.
But I would like multitouch, so I hope to find the studio 14z driver.
Or any other dell driver that supports multitouch and is for the alps touchpad.
I've had my Dell Studio 15 (1535) for nearly a year now, problem free. But last night, my touchpad moving extremely choppy,
and my CPU/RAM meters (on Vista) were at nearly 50%, sometimes even spiking higher; I've never seen them that high before.
Here's what was going on when it happened. I was using Facebook Chat, which I don't believe was the problem, but what I believe started it was when i tried to turn up the volume using the touch sensitive media keys at the top, and hit play on iTunes. When i went to turn the volume up,
it froze for about 30 seconds, and then turned the volume all the way up, and now none of my media keys work, my keyboard barely works, and my touchpad/mouse buttons don't work at all!
