View 9 RepliesMy computer is the dell 1747 Studio Laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It has the built-in Synaptics Touch Pad. When you drag your finger on the far right side of the pa, it auto scrolls through the document on the screen.
I use my Laptop almost exclusively with a remote desktop connection. I process large documents (some as many as 200 pages). If I accidentally drag my hand or finger up or down on the left side of the touch pad, it begins to scroll. Since it is a remote desktop connection, it will not stop scrolling until it reaches the end of the document either up or down. I have to sit and wait for it to finish scrolling before I can use the computer again.
I would like to know how to turn OFF auto scrolling on the touch pad. There is a "wheel" setting in the device setup menu but you can only turn it down to "1" not "zero".
I have the Dell Studio 1537 and I have two issues :
1. Since I bought the laptop, the media (light) buttons aren't functioning properly. The media player-button isn't working at all, and after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 only the Eject-button does work. Earlier I tried some Registry tweaks, but they did not do the job..
2. The scroll line on the touch pad doesn't work, even when the driver for it is installed properly. How I can bring it to usefulness again?
my touchpad scrolling is not working. how can i go about getting it to work?
View 10 Replies View RelatedGot it on EBay and can't seem to find right driver to enable scrolling with the touchpad.
Tried Synaptics but that did not work. Dell's download site only has ALPS fixes.
Anyone know the right driver? Is the D410 touchpad even capable of this?
I've just bought a used Dell Latitude D830 (UK, XP SP2) and find the touchpad won't scroll. Otherwise pad, trackpoint and buttons all work ok.
I went into Control Panel assuming that the scroll areas weren't set up. Not so - unlike on my old C640, there are no separate Synaptics set-up tabs. Nothing - and it claims there's a Microsoft mouse plugged into PS2 .
I bought a dell xps 13 a few months ago. I was pretty happy with its performance untill a few days ago, when its touchpad refuses to scroll periodically. While it is refusing to scroll, other multi-finger gestures like zoom, pinch etc work. Also, touchscreen scroll and mouse scroll also work. Problem doesn't go away even if I disable and re enable the driver. It sometimes goes away on its own, or on restarting the computer.
I use windows 8.1
I installed the touchpad driver. I am not able to access the touchpad settings when I click on the ones with the yellow arrow. Nothing happens. I want to turn off tap to click.

I have tried uninstalling and installing the drivers but its not working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell Vostro 2520, replaced Ubuntu with Windows 7. Ever since the OS was changed, I see no Touchpad option under "Mouse and other devices" in the device manager. Unable to scroll using the touchpad. Unable to install drivers as I always come across the error, "....exe is not a valid Win 32 application.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt appears that the only way to scroll with the current driver is the two finger scroll. I need a driver that will allow me to edge scroll, that is using one finger on the far right of the touchpad for scrolling. Bonus points if the driver allows "momentum" and doesn't mess up other stuff.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been looking to make my alps pad better and with some info i found on here i was able to do just that. now i have "back/forward" slide gestures and circle scrolling, in firefox! this will also enables alot more things.
first of all thanks to fonduekid for letting us know of the new drivers.
and to SpotMe for the regedit info.
to start off go HERE, and download that driver.
Install, restart.
after windows restarts run regedit
look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAlpsAPoint"
with in that folder look for "UseCustomGUI"
double click and change the value data to "0"
close regedit
open mouse properties and you will have all the features unlocked. circle scrolling are within the dell tab and the back/forward is under gestures tab.
Unfortunately Alps still will not recognize Firefox. To be able to use the "back and forward" slide gesture you will have to go here and download a firefox addon called nightly tester tools.
once installed, with in firefox go to tools>addons and click on options for Nightly tester tools.
How to make my touch-pad scroll function work? I drag my fingertip up or down the right side of the pad, on the line, and get nada, zip. If i hold down the left click key i can scroll with the window slide bar but thats it. I have checked all of the settings for mouse that I know about. .

Laptopmodel is Aspire ES1-512. Windows 8.1
I have followed advice on changing settings on the mousepad in the control panel, in my settings it shows I have enabled (ticked) all of 2 finger scrolling vertical and horizontal and one finger scrolling vertical and horizontal, and have clicked apply, however the touchpad still won't let me scroll on pages. All i can use the touchpad for is to click and moe the pointer around the page. It used to work until recently and I only bought the laptop in January. This is very frustrating as i bought the laptop for study use as an open uni student I have to read a lot of journals so thesudden lack of non scrolling is extremely awkward.
I have tried the changing of settings (once I found the control panel) already so how to get this to work again.

I've gone to the touchpad settings and there really isn't much there. Surely HP included some of the advanced features like Synaptics does and is used on less expensive laptops???
Am I failing to look in the right place? I went to the touchpad settings. Is thewre another place to make changes to the settings?
i can use the touch pad to move around but edge swipes don't work so i cant change from app to app and i cannot function zooming using the touch pad or scrolling either ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently ordered a SXPS 16 and have a potentially silly question about the touchpad.
For when I want to play a game and need to use a USB mouse is there a way to disable the touchpad like I can with my current ASUS G2S laptop?
Nothing is more annoying when trying to play a game and having inadvertant mouse clicks and movement because I can't or forgot to disable the touchpad while using a mouse.
I have got dell studio 1535. After a couple of days I noticed that my mouse cursor is moving very erratic. E.G. If you touch touchpad and move cursor in circle it's like jaming / stopping every 5 seconds for 0.5 sec.
I have done diagnostic, I reinstalled vista,Ubuntu, XP still this same.
but i jsut can't seem to find my brain today...
i always use a mouse 100% of the times and honestly the touchpad is driving me nutz when i try to draw and/or use excel...
what are the ways of disabling the touchpad?
i have had this refurblished laptop for a few months now and recently it has developed a problem. When the touchpad plays up it will not respond and occasionaly will jump all over the place making it impossible to use.
It has been doing this for a few weeks usually about once a day which i thought was completley random, although about 5 minutes ago I discovered unplugging the charger solves the problem.
I purchased a brand-new Dell Studio 15 laptop with Windows Vista on it. I opened the package and started using it.
After few mins of normal usage i.e. no gaming, just browsing through the drives, checking pictures etc
(less than an hour) the touchpad started heating. I am not able to use it at all, its burning my fingers.
remember reading that the SXPS 16 has a Synaptics supported touchpad or something in it, meaning you can use some multi-touch gestures like pinch zoom etc. Can anyone clear this up for me? Do you have to do anything to enable the additional gestures? Will i need to download some more drivers or something (i haven't gotten my laptop yet.) What gestures will i be able to do with (or without) the driver (if there is one.)
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to "re-cushion" or do something to make the "press" of the button more with a nice, comfortable, normal distance press versus a small dull short distance press.
Basically my left touchpad button has worn down and isn't as "springy" as my right touchpad button which acts like new due to relatively less use.
If I told suppot at dell that the button was like this do you think they would repair it and if so how would they do it?
Do they have to remove the whole plate around the keyboard or something? Because that looks really set in.
I am pasting a screenshot of the results that I got
