I have a 3 week old Studio XPS 1645 and the original order and configuration show a 500gb 7200 Seagate Free Fall Sensor HD but it came with a Hitachi 500gb 7200 Travelstar HD.
I questioned it with Dell Support ( North America for the 1st year) and the first tech said he did not know if the Hitachi had the free fall sensor and the 2nd tech said it did? Is it really worth it if the Hitachi does noy have it to have to change our hard drives and reload ny data ...
On my xps the fan i running nearly all the time...is this normal. It runs all the time if i turn on the laptop and do nothing on it. Sometimes it stops for 2-4 min. It is quit noisy...... Are you guys xps' doing the same thing???

View 3 Replies View RelatedI ordered a Dell Studio 1558 in late Feb, to receive it in early March.
then one fine day, Engadget breaks the news that 1558 anf 1749 will be avaliable with full touch screen (initially it was a "slip" on Dell on-line catalogue here on page 5. What you will see now is only 1749, but originally (I have it printed) there was also 1558 for $999.
Bang, I cancel the order, waiting anxiously for 1558 Touch screen to apprear on the web-site. After a few days, only 1749 appears as available with touch screen, the 1558 is "purged" from the catalogue, "replaced" (the pictures seemingly stay the same) the descrition of a cheaper 1749, still the $999 remained.
Questions:
1. Anyone knows what's going on? Is 1558 Touch Screen for real or only 1749 will get the touch screen?
2. If 1558 will eventually get the touch screen, any idea how long do I have to bite nails? Will the 1558 touch screen be availble with the full-HD 1920x1080 screen?
Anyone have it and have any opinions on the touch screen.
Do you use it?Is it a waste? Is it awesome?...
I am pasting a screenshot of the results that I got

View 10 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the Dell Synaptic Drivers v13.2.2.2, I seem to have gained additional touchpad gestures.
Along with the original chiral-scroll and two-finger zoom I now have:
-two-finger scrolling (vertical and horizontal)
-three-finger forward/back for web browsers and the Windows image viewer
-rotate
-three-finger quick launch (holding three fingers down for 1 second opens notepad)
-momentum (I'm not sure if this one is new)
I have found out that the touch pad surface extends further than it should. I have a habit on leaning on my elbow,
when I have my laptop on my legs I put my elbow on the palm rests. I found out quickly though that if I lean on it I end up doing a multi touch zoom,
to start off with I thought my system was just being rubbish but then I tested it again and it worked fine after I took my elbow off.
This must mean that the touch surface extends further than the edge of the "touchpad",
I just wonder how far it actually goes and whether we could make use of it .
The touch sensitive eject button on my new Studio 15 laptop appears to be stuck on. When I reboot the laptop, the media control lights flash back and forth as normal. However, the CD drive immediately ejects and the eject button light stays permanently on. This all happens the second the laptop comes on - long before it boots into Vista. This makes me suspect a hardware rather than software issue.
None of the other touch sensitive media controls work.
I've tried cleaning the button, checking for dirt under and on the button and rebooting the laptop. I also rested it overnight.
I only got the laptop on Friday.
My laptop is a Studio XPS 1645. I recently uninstalled some surplus programs and seem to also have accidentally uninstalled whatever lights up the touch buttons (e.g. volume control, pause/play, wireless on/off) What program this is and where/how i can get it back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm extremely careful not to have liquids anywhere near my keyboard. However I was drinking tea and felt I was far enough back that liquids should not even reach the laptop. I was probably about a foot back. Well one of my cats nudged my arm and hit it with enough force that a few drops hit the touch pad. I cleaned it up. This morning I turn my laptop on and now my left touch pad button does not work. I figured that I probably needed to clean it. So I pried the button off gently. And used a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned it off. When I pried it up it didn't look really dirty at all. There was no residue on the inside that I could see. I put the button back on, and it still doesn't work. So now I'm wondering if enough got inside to actually cause damage or if it's just coincidental that the button stopped working at the same time? I used it all the time for copying stuff and scrolling. I can use all the other buttons and scroll without using it.
Should the cleaning underneath have cured it if it was the liquid? If the liquid got past the underneath of the key itself then it should have affected the whole key pad not just one key, right?
I installed retail Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on Studio 1537 (the one in the signature) So far whatever I have tested, except the touch buttons, everything works.
I wonder if anyone knows how to get those touch buttons working.
Are there drivers or software that are needed for the Touch-Sensitive Multimedia Controls? I re-installed Windows 7 (for a cleaner start!).All of the Touch-Sensitive keys work but the CD/DVD eject.... will only work as Laptop is booting (but not in Windows).Other programs in Windows will eject the CD..

View 4 Replies View RelatedI received my Dell Studio 1737 only a few hours ago and the immediate problem I've found is that Fn+F10 and the eject soft touch button don't eject a CD whilst in Vista. They work fine in the BIOS or Diagnostics Utility but don't work when the machine boots up into Vista.
BIOS is showing as A04 and the latest available on the Dell Drivers website is A02
I opened up iTunes today and while you are inside it, the touch buttons at the top of the Studio XPS 16 work fine but if you are in firefox, desktop or anywhere else they do not seem to control the music at all? Is there a way to fix this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs there any chance the xps 1645 will have a multi-touch mouse pad anytime soon? I find that feature in the macs really cool. Since I'm about to buy a 1645, was just wondering if it was worth waiting sometime

this morning when i woke up i turn on music.. while increasing the volume i noticed the touch sensitive LED above the keyboard wasnt working..
I've started feeling a slight tingling sensation when resting my palm on the notebook, to the left of the touch pad. It is subtle, not painful, but noticeable.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI remember reading a thread similar to this a while back but am unable to find it. The fellow had his laptop replaced several times due to the media buttons being too dim when pressed.
I am having the same problem. How bright are your media buttons when you press them? I can barely see them unless I'm right on top of them purposely trying to see what I've pressed.
Is there any way to adjust the brightness of these or am I out of luck? I'm not really in the mood to have the laptop replaced as university classes are about to start back up and I can't be without it.
Lovely machine this, but a couple of times now, I've accidentally hit the wireless enable/disable touch button above the keyboard. Does any one know please whether there is a way of disabling this from working in Win 7?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a XPS 1530 2 weeks ago and my Alps touchpad mouse keeps freezing for 5 to 10 seconds.
But if I keep moving my finger around on the touchpad when the mouse/pointer freezes the mouse will continue to remain frozen, or partially move in little spurts, until I take my finger off the touch pad.
The freezing occurs maybe everything 15 minutes or so.
I have called Dell twice.
Downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the Chipset, video, Bios, and Alps touchpad.
I have read other XPS owners have had similar problems but I have never seen anyone post a fix .....
I'm not sure if mt drivers are old, but my touch screen works sometimes then completely stops working and when I try to calibrate it, it tells me that there's no N-Trig duosense hardware on my computer. It says I DO have the hardware when it's in a 'working stage' though. Every time I try to download a driver, it says 'fatal error.'
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Latitude D620) is driving me..How do I turn off the touchpad and disable the top row (between touchpad and spacebar) of mouse buttons? When ever I'm in Word, or composing an email, the cursor moves up into previously typed text and starts typing from there instead of where I was at. I suspect it is the touchpad or the 'mouse' buttons between the touchpad and the space bar. On a ThinkPad there was way to turn off the touchpad, but still leave the joystick/pointer enabled. But I need to also disable the top row of mouse buttons.
In other words what I want is a set up where the joystick/pointer works and the bottom row (below the touchpad) of mouse buttons works, but not the touch pad itself, or the top row of buttons. It sounds funny, but it has become a severe productivity issue. The cursor jumping has happened 7 times just in this one email !!
My Touch Pad is not working after upgrading windows 7 to window 8.1. I am using Inspiron 14 3442. I already installed touch pad driver [Input_Driver_H4TWP_WN_18.0.7.1_A00.EXE ]. Is there anything that i can do to get my touchpad back?
View 16 Replies View RelatedTouchscreen for my laptop is no longer working, among other issues. When I look at pen and touch under pc info, I get "No pen or touch input is available for this display." Which is quite odd since it is a touch laptop. I cannot find any of the drivers for the touchscreen. The only thing I have under "mice and other pointing devices," is the dell touchpad. I tried reinstalling synaptics touchpad driver, no luck. I updated BIOS and chipset drivers, no luck. I also completed all windows updates, still no luck. So, I reset my computer to factory settings, and it still does not work
I recently sent in my laptop due to problems of it not being able to turn on, and my battery and a/c adapter were replaced. I was quite happy. However, I do not want to send it back in even though it is under warranty.
