Dell :: Temperature Monitoring On XPS M1330: Recommended Program(s)
Aug 6, 2009
I have a Dell XPS M1330 PC and am currently using a trial version of Everest Ultimate to monitor primarily its temperature, but I also use it occasionally to check its components.
The trial version ends in 8 days and I am looking for another software monitoring program, preferably freeware, to replace it, but I am also willing to pay reasonably for quality monitoring software.
Reviewing the posts on the Notebook Forums, HWMonitor seems to be widely recommended and used. Would you agree or do you have other recommendations for accurate temperature monitoring software? Is there any freeware that can monitor the various functions of the M1330 PC like Everest does?
I also had a question about the Everest Ultimate monitoring program (made by Lavalys). I found the following on the Lavalys website:
My GF just found a temp monitoring program for her Dell for free on line that always show her temps inside her laptop & its seems pretty cool & now I want one for my New MBP15.
What killed my last laptop was over heating issues..
just got a DV6 with 4650 GPU. Usually I use HW monitor and the like but I notice HW monitor does not pick up the temp for the GPU. I have tried using the AMD tool and Speed fan, neither see the GPU, GPUz sees the GPU and gives me temperature information which as far as I can see is wrong (says that the GPU is only 42 degrees under full load and never changes from between 37-42 degrees). So does any one out there have a temperature monitoring utility that will WORK with an ATI 4650 and give some representation of what its temp is?
I am not sure if I am the only one who had problems with the XPS 1640 so far. So I would like to hear your Dell Stories as well!
Uhm it all started with me unpacking the Notebook and noticing a french manual instead of a German one..
that wasnt too bad but once I noticed that the right speaker was not sounding too well (it sounded pretty messed up especially once I turned the notebook a little up)
ive been getting a vibe that my M1330 may bite the dust soon or relatively soon although its been pretty great and ive been praying that it doesnt have the issue.
Anyhow, I installed HWMonitor and basically I get temps averaging in the low-mid 70s and sometimes in the 80s. The highest it has ever gone since installing it two weeks ago was 84 C.
So at what temps exactly should I start to get worries are 70s bad?
Then my external hard drive has decided to give me corrupt errors so I cant even backup my files now ...
This is a description of how to cool down the XPS machine, e.g., the CPU and all the other chips. Under specific circumstances, the GPU and CPU temperature can be lowered by 5°C and 20°C, respectively.
First, here is some literature:
GPU related issues are described in the following threads: ~XPS M1330 owners lounge~ M1330 Display Issue (Vertical Lines on Reboot & Crash & Vertical Lines)
Here is a description of the copper heat sink method How to: Improve your XPS M1330 Cooling Dell XPS M1330 - nVidia GeForce 8400M GS - Copper Mod Heatsink Mod Dell M1330 XPS by BlackRussian xps1330 thermal cooling mod.........
Considering doing a clean install of XP Pro on my Windows partition in order to purge my E6400 of all the Dell and other party bloatware and start from scratch.
I have been reading a bunch of threads on decreasing temps and I am now thinking about changing the thermal compound that the machine shipped with.
I had originally seen a lot of people recommending Arctic Silver but I was not sure which one so I started to llok for more info and am now thoroughly confused. From what I have read some are designed for a more permanent mounting which I do not want since I may want to change the CPU in the future.
Also it seems some work better than others in certain applications which I don't understand. To me all it is doing is transferring heat so what it is transferring heat from shouldn't matter. But since it does seem to have some effect what has worked well for other SXPS 16 users.
From what I've heard it seems like the Dell Studio XPS 1647 has good enough specs to play a good number of games. But I want to ask the community who owns a Studio XPS 1647 to give me their opinion on it when gaming on it. Note that I'm well aware that the Dell Studio XPS 1647 isn't made for just gaming. Anyways I'm planning on buying one but I'm not too convince to do so.
I plan on playing games on the Studio XPS 1647 most of the time, but I'm also willing to do other things such as surfing on the internet, homework, etc.. From looking at the specs I believe that it would be a good computer to buy, but having to look at the graphic card (ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB) I'm not too sure that I'll be able to play the games I want to play with the graphic details I want to play in. When I say games I mean like Bad Company 2, Starcraft 2 etc..
It sounds like there are some dodgy sellers for the Dell power supplies, at least on ebay, based on some discussions. If anyone has purchased a 130W PS and feels like they could recommended the seller I'd appreciate the tip. If posting an ebay or retail link violates forum rules then just PM me.
i hv just bought a new laptop of HP. it has everythng but i need to monitor the wireless signal strength cause we have placed so many aps but the ssid is same..so for connecting to a perticuler ap i will be needing a tool which can show me the % of wireless signal strength and the ssid..
Just got me an Aspire 5536G (2.2 ghz Turion, ATI 4570) and it is running hot! After a few minutes of Prime95 the CPU gets up in the 90s (Celcius), and 15-20 minutes of gaming gets it there too.
Is there a tool that lets me undervolt and lower clocks? The BIOS is very anemic, so I cant set things there.
I am also looking for a good fan speed and temp monitoring program. I have tried a few but only CPUID HWMonitor reports temps for both cores and two more sensors (presumably located near the GPU). SpeedFan only reports one temperatur.
I have the Pavilion G6 2342dx running Windows 8. Yesterday, I used HP's support assistant to perform a few recommended driver updates. Among the things updated was the Qualcomm Atheros Wifi device driver and the HP wireless button driver. Wifi device installed was 10...222, from 10....212. Â After the update, my laptop is unable to detect any wifi networks. It just shows "No networks found." I also noticed that the wifi button light (on F12) is always white whether or not I activate flight mode or not. I get an on-screen message alright about airplane mode status changing. However, it does not appear to be actually turning on/off the wifi because from the sidebar, it looks like wifi is on but with the "No networks found" message persisting. Also, the wifi icon on the status bar remains grayed out with an red x on it. Â I have tried disabling and enabling the adaptor with no success. I have tried downloading and reinstalling the driver (10...212) with no luck. I even tried disabling, uninstalling and reinstalling the device from device manager. System restore fails everytime I try it. Interestingly, the latest driver on HP support website is the 212, no mention of the 222 driver.
But can anybody recommend any good monitoring software for Vista, 32bit?
On my desktop I use "dtemp", to show the harddrive temp in the sys tray, but dtemp cant read the hdd temp on my HP
And an another program for showing the cpu load or/and cpu clock in the sys tray..? tried NHC 2 pre 06, but it hangs when I go to settings to configure the program..
I have this new program that I want to load on my E drive but its not working. When I click properties it says used space 585mb and free space 0 bytes.
Isnt it supposed to say that? lol I've never had a problem with the e drive b4 so I dont know whats wrong. Whenever I try to run the program it says access is denied.
I posted this in another thread, but I figured I'd bring it over here so people would know that they might be in for a battle if they decide to purchase a Dell.
Friday 10/9/09 We priced out our orders and made an order. Something happened with my DPA and the following series happened:
1) My order was cancelled. 2) My DPA was put on hold pending validation. 3) I spent 3 hours *that night* trying to figure out what was going on and nobody
would tell me until I finally got a hold of some one telling me that this all occurred because my initial rep put in "Avenue" instead of "Street" on my DPA setup.
The rep I'm on the phone with that finally spills those beans tells me that she can't help me recreate the order because she isn't EPP, and EPP is closed
With my Asus I was tracking my GPU temp while gaming with RivaTuner (I'd go back and check temp history from a graph)...what is the best free program to use for my precision these days?
Having issues with my XPS 14z freezing randomly. The system never seems to be overheating when this problem occurs and it has occurred when I've had as little as one program running. I have had issues with this laptop shutting off randomly before. Dell sent someone out to replace the motherboard, heatsink and fan and this had the system running reasonably well for a while. However now I have been presented with a new issue which could be related to the one I was having before?
My current CPU temp is around 61 degrees C with the CPU load @ 100%. I clean it petty often and I just recently (around 2 months ago) applied silver compound to the heatsink. Even though the fan is on, how come it will not go faster than "slow"? I can set it to high, but why doesn't it do it automatically? Is this normal for my 9300?
I just bought a new Dell inspiron 15R laptop , and i want to make factory backup.I insert a USB flash and press "continue", but it keeps loading and when it recognizes the USB flash and i press "start" it prints out that there is a problem with Dell Backup and Recovery and i should restart the program !
I am facing the same with my Inspiron 3537 webcam, have done fair bit of reading and tried all solutions provided but none worked.
The integrated webcam or a third party webcam does not work with any program (tried Skype, Dell Webcam Central). I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the cams and drivers but nothing works.
