Dell :: Touchpad Screwed Up
Jan 4, 2009
We just got my gf's laptop from dell this week. I start it up and notice that something is wrong.
The touchpad icon in the taskbar shows that the right click on the touchpad is pressed, all the time. Everytime i move the mouse over the desktop, the right click menu comes up ....

I've got a problem with a Compaq C700. When the laptop is powered on the LCD is showing a screwed up image, when I plug an external monitor in the picture is fine on that screen. I purchased a replacement screen, but that shows the same image.

There is another, even newer driver available from the E4300/E4200. Thanks to Logan_Nolag for posting that. It is even more responsive than the Studio driver.

The touchpad is now up there with the Synaptics from my old XPS m140.
-------------------------------------------
I tried it on my E6400, and it updated to the newer drivers without issue. I am definitely noticing a diffference in the touchpad.

I'm planning to do a mod on my latitude E6400, so if anyone with an M1330 would answer these questions, that would be great. I can't seem to find concrete info anywhere.
Are the touchpad in the 1330s all Synaptics, or a mix of Synaptics and Alps?
How big is the surface area of the touchpad (width x height) ....

I have recently purchased a dell inspiron 15. I have a small question. I can not figure out what I am hitting to cause this toi occur but seems to be touchpad related.
I keep shrinking the text on the screen! Silly but it is always when I am using the touchpad, not typing. I can not figure out how to undo!

I recently ordered a SXPS 16 and have a potentially silly question about the touchpad.
For when I want to play a game and need to use a USB mouse is there a way to disable the touchpad like I can with my current ASUS G2S laptop?
Nothing is more annoying when trying to play a game and having inadvertant mouse clicks and movement because I can't or forgot to disable the touchpad while using a mouse.

I have got dell studio 1535. After a couple of days I noticed that my mouse cursor is moving very erratic. E.G. If you touch touchpad and move cursor in circle it's like jaming / stopping every 5 seconds for 0.5 sec.
I have done diagnostic, I reinstalled vista,Ubuntu, XP still this same.

i recently got a new studio 1555, i wanted to disable my touchpad while using an external mouse so i use the feature in the touchpad properties that disables the touchpad
once an external pointing device is connected. The problem is, once i disconnect the mouse the touchpad does'nt turn on again, is that normal behavior? should'nt the touchpad come back to life once i disconnect my mouse.

It seems that randomly, after awaking from hibernation, my touchpad becomes unresponsive and my keyboard speed settings are reset. This is typically solved by restarting the computer.

One of the things that bugs me is the scroll down/up-swipe function; it doesnt allow for constant scrolling. Meaning, in most of the other laptops ive owned you would run your finger down the right side of the pad, the page would scroll but..
if you held your finger in the corner, the page would keep scrolling. On the Dells you have to keep swiping down to get to the bottom of the page (or use the circular scrolling motion) ....

Got it on EBay and can't seem to find right driver to enable scrolling with the touchpad.
Tried Synaptics but that did not work. Dell's download site only has ALPS fixes.
Anyone know the right driver? Is the D410 touchpad even capable of this?

I just bought Dell Latitude E6400. It is well-design machine. A little more noise than my T41, an old IBM guy. I have a problem with touchpad and buttons:
On Dell touchpad window, there are two buttons, one sticking point buttons (back) and touchpad buttons (front). When I click and hold the touchpad button (front one, either left or right), touchpad works, I can move the cursor to scroll down and up.
However, when click and hold the back one (up next the touchpad), the touchpad does not response. Traditionally, both buttons work with touchpad but this one does not. I am wondering if it is Dell's new design or there is something wrong with the touchpad.

7" touch screen w/ digitizer... its about 6.5" x 4.09", just the right size for the palm rest on the right of the builtin touchpad... ( i never use the fingerprint reader anyways)
its about 1mm in height, so putting it there shouldnt scratch the screen (i have a screen protector anyways... or i could get a spare palm rest part and make a large hole to put the touchpad in..

Circuit board is small enough to fit into the expresscard enclosure, but the height might be a problem... might as well remvoe the entire expresscard enclosure since i dont use expresscard... wonder if expresscard pins are compatible with usb pins... otherwise will need a wire sticking out of the expresscard slot to connect to the USB(or further mod a wire internally between expresscard slot to usb on motherboard...

I just upgraded from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista (it was free). The onboard mouse buttons and touchpad work fine in Vista 64. My problem is that I always use an external mouse. When I'm typing and my palm hits the touchpad my cursor moves. In Vista 32 bit I could set the onboard mouse buttons and trackpad to switch off in the Dell touchpad driver whenever an external mouse is plugged in. There is no 64 bit Vista driver to download from Dell. How do I turn this touchpad off?

Does anyone know if the 1640 uses a DIFFERENT touchpad then the 1530 does? I know they are both synaptics, but I am hoping they are different peices of hardware.
I am thinking of replacing my 1530 with a 1640 and do not want to be plagued by the same touch pad issues (jitterness, unresponsiveness, etc, etc) that the 1530 has (even with the latest bios)
