On my DV5z and its a little bit screwy. But i didnt know i wouldnt be able to boot to recovery using f11 after doing it and now i cant restore my pc back to Vista because i never made restore Disks. I still have my drive D folder and wanna know how to make a new disk using just that.
View 10 RepliesI've got a problem with a Compaq C700. When the laptop is powered on the LCD is showing a screwed up image, when I plug an external monitor in the picture is fine on that screen. I purchased a replacement screen, but that shows the same image.
View 3 Replies View Relateda friend of mine has a DV9620us. I INstalled WIndows 7 Ultimate x64. I got pretty much everything working on it except for 2 things that I cannot remember how to fix.
1. The remote control that comes with it. I installed Wireless Assistant for W7, but it still didn't respond.
2. While I have the quick launch buttons installed, the mute button does not turn amber when muted. It's not a najor issue, but I would like to be able to have his laptop fully working the way he brought it to me (especially since it used to be mine.)
I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!

We just got my gf's laptop from dell this week. I start it up and notice that something is wrong.
The touchpad icon in the taskbar shows that the right click on the touchpad is pressed, all the time. Everytime i move the mouse over the desktop, the right click menu comes up ....
the previous m4400 mouse driver wouldnt recognise the middle button....and now the new one dated 4th january wont recognise it either !!! this is getting really annoying...

I bought a new dvd drive because I thought that that might have gone bad but the new drive has the same problem. I update the bios and drivers and still no go.

I finally fired up my computer, and instead of Vista it installed XP. In the box is a Operating System CD for WinXP Professonal as well and a Application and driver recovery DVD for WinXP. That should be the right CDs and only the OS on the computer is wrong. There's a Vista sticker on it, mind.
And no spamware? I got a trialversion of Office 2007 that I need to kick off again and the installation created a tiny 1GB partition which only holds some HP tools. Convenient. And the IE contains a spambar with google search, lots of AOL and some HP stuff.
Now I feel slightly annoyed that they added a UK plug to the parcel and not a European one eventhough I will need it anyway soon and for a longer time. Or maybe that is standard when asking for a UK keyboard and English windows?

Everything appears to be working fine in my win 7 installation with the exception of the video. If I install any video driver then the LCD display dim's down to <50% of its normal brightness compared to just vanilla VGA drivers. External monitor works fine.
I initially went with the official NVIDIA 186.03 driver, and this exhibited the dimming effect. I have since tried all manner of other video driver versions including laptop2go, etc and none of them work. Even had my first win7 BSOD when I installed Dell's latest Vista x64 driver .....
Have an Envy M6-K010DX notebook. Due to an internet problem while upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1, the PC doesn't properly boot and Windows Explorer won't load. Decided to 'Refresh' the OS and went to the F11 restore utilities. When I go to the refresh utility and follow the prompts I reach a message that says, "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I've searched support for unlocking instructions and aside from some bootrec commands (that didn't work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disk) not much is available.
The only access I have for running commands is via the Task Manager and F11 command prompt. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway?
After windows 7/64 install, the drivers for USB controllers are not installed. I can't found USB drivers at hp.com... How and where can I get the drivers?

I had some Windows problems recently and luckily managed to sort these out but I have recently discovered that my CD/DVD drive is not recognised by various programs. I have run Lenovo solution centre and that points me towards Windows Device Manager. That says that 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. am not confident with this sort of thing but I really need to get this working.
