I have a HP Pavilion G6 laptop. The laptop came with a pre installed copy of windows 8. I need to create a backup of this OS so that i can re-install it when the current OS crashes one day. Is there any way to find the product key, so that i can install windows from a disk using this product key?.

My hard drive failed and my backup has been lost. I installed new hard drive and purchased a full version of Windows 8.1.
I changed the boot order to internal CD/DVD drive and tried with secure boot enabled and disabled but can't get windows to load. Says boot device not found.........please instal an OS on your hard drive.

I recently bought an ideapad y510p. It came with win8 pre-installed and I don't have any recovery CDs. I plan to play around with linux on this laptop, but don't want to lose win8. So before I potentially reformat everything away, I'm thinking of making a clone copy of my hard-disk to an external USB drive. The general plan is like this,
1. make copy of laptop HDD to external usb drive
2. muck around with linux - and stupidly reformat everything in the process
3. get fed up with linux and want to go back to windows
4. copy back data from external usb driver to latop HDD
5. return to comfort of win8
Will using this tool (clonezilla) work in the above scenario? [URL] ...
My intent with the backup, is that after I "restore" things, the "one key recovery" button should continue to work as before.
I've recently get support from HP team and installed my original windows 7 home premium using my product key. Then installed updates of Wireless, Internet and Home Network, but within a short period, my laptop get stuck and no keyboard could not work at all except power on/off button. Then I installed my original windows 7 home premium and it was, I can access although I could not installed any other programs and my personal ducoment.

I am using the high performance graphics for running google chrome.

Does the factory default., only back up the files that were originally on the drive when I first bought it, regardless of what I install afterwards? and the Custom backsup everything? I noticed that Factory Default is 10GB, but the Custom is 29GB. This is confusing because I only install two small programs on top the Factory Default. WHat is the other 19GB?

Back in my Windows days and for my servers at work (just a few), I always did the following to do backup:
1) DATA
Use SyncToy or copy the data folders (My Documents, etc.) to an external hard drive
2) OS and APPLICATIONS
Create an image using Acronis's TrueImage, so I don't have to re-install the applications or re-configure the OS
With Time Machine, I know it backups my User folder (Documents, Music, etc.), but does it also backup the computer settings, such that in the case of re-install, I just pop-in the original OSX Installation CD and restore from Time Machine without reconfiguring the OS AND re-installing the application again?
I noticed in the Time Machine hard drive there is also an Applications folder that contains the list of the same applications as installed in my MBP.
I have a Thinkpad x130e. I completed my first backup using the Lenovo Rescue and backup application. The backup completed normally but, I still have an outstanding message in the message center telling me 'you need to perform your first backup'.

I have 2 WinPCs and a Mac and I am searching for a solution that will enable me to set up a wireless backup for all the 3.
So I am considering buying the large Time Capsule (1TB) if and only if I can use it as a backup drive for my WinPCs too. Do you know if this is possible or even better, has anyone done it?
I just purchased an Inspiron 14R for my granddaughter (graduation present). I know Dell doesn't ship OS Recovery disks anymore (poor decision), but I thought I'd be able to create one from the Dell Backup and Recovery app.
However, all I see is the "System Recovery" option, which doesn't work. It fails after the first DVD. I don't have a flash drive to try that option yet.
But I don't really want 4 DVDs of a full system backup; I just want a Windows 8 OS Recovery DVD. The manual seems to say I have one opportunity to make one, but I've never seen that option.
There must be a way to get or make a simple Windows 8 OS backup--why is this so difficult?

I can get to the basic operating system required for restoring user backup files by inserting the Restore CD in the CDROM. But if I select Restore from the eRecovery menu, after selecting the desired restore file the PC reboots into normal startup mode instead of rebooting into basic operating system for the Restore function.
For creating a System Image backup the HP guide shows two selections (External Hard Drive or Disc). Can I use a USB flash drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was replacing y HDD in the laptop with SDD. The laptop is acer 4830TG, it had 512GB HDD WD. Replacing it with Kingston SSD 480GB.
The SSD is not detected at startup of the laptop, while it is detected on another machine, I also tried another SSD on the acer and it was detected (the other SSD is 120GB). Is this a sort of compatibility issue ?
When I go into the Control Panel and try to make system image backup on external hard drive get message saying backup failure. Have tried several times. External backup works fine for other things. How to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545. So, a few months ago, I got mad at my laptop and slammed the screen down. I think it was taking its sweet time shutting down or something. I can't remember. Anyway, the next time I tried to turn it on, it goes into Startup Repair, and then comes up with a screen of errors, namely "StartupRepairOffline", "Autofailover", "NoOSInstalled". I can go into advanced options and go into DOS command (it comes up to the X drive); I was able to successfully pull off stuff I wanted, but I'm thinking I damaged the hard drive. I've let this sit for awhile, using my daughters' laptop, but now I want mine back and want to repair it. What should I do first? Also, I don't think I have any startup disks or anything like that.

a friend of mine has a DV9620us. I INstalled WIndows 7 Ultimate x64. I got pretty much everything working on it except for 2 things that I cannot remember how to fix.
1. The remote control that comes with it. I installed Wireless Assistant for W7, but it still didn't respond.
2. While I have the quick launch buttons installed, the mute button does not turn amber when muted. It's not a najor issue, but I would like to be able to have his laptop fully working the way he brought it to me (especially since it used to be mine.)
I just had this notebook-pc HP 14-d008au 14 inch and my issues are: When the package brought to me it doesnt have any dvd or cd for all drivers, second the OS is ubuntu when I changed it to Windows 8 some drivers from your website when I run it, it can't be installed. Third the wifi and bluetooth is not working ( it cannot recognize wireless internet and devices). I can't use this thing because of some missing hardwares and drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features.
