HP/Compaq :: Hp Dv6605us Won't Get Passscreen With Dvd Installed
Jan 5, 2009
It is a hp dv6605us and I can't get into the bios or pass the hp screen with the dvd drive installed. When I pull the dvd drive out it boots just fine. I bought a new dvd drive because I thought that that might have gone bad but the new drive has the same problem. I update the bios and drivers and still no go.

my 2530p
I finally fired up my computer, and instead of Vista it installed XP. In the box is a Operating System CD for WinXP Professonal as well and a Application and driver recovery DVD for WinXP. That should be the right CDs and only the OS on the computer is wrong. There's a Vista sticker on it, mind.
And no spamware? I got a trialversion of Office 2007 that I need to kick off again and the installation created a tiny 1GB partition which only holds some HP tools. Convenient. And the IE contains a spambar with google search, lots of AOL and some HP stuff.
Now I feel slightly annoyed that they added a UK plug to the parcel and not a European one eventhough I will need it anyway soon and for a longer time. Or maybe that is standard when asking for a UK keyboard and English windows?

a friend of mine has a DV9620us. I INstalled WIndows 7 Ultimate x64. I got pretty much everything working on it except for 2 things that I cannot remember how to fix.
1. The remote control that comes with it. I installed Wireless Assistant for W7, but it still didn't respond.
2. While I have the quick launch buttons installed, the mute button does not turn amber when muted. It's not a najor issue, but I would like to be able to have his laptop fully working the way he brought it to me (especially since it used to be mine.)

Just got my new Envy 15 with 8GB of RAM, but the 64bit Windows 7 only sees 4GB in computer properties. It displays:
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.99 GB usable)
Called HP support, they are escalating this to hardware support. BIOS displays that 8GB are installed.
By the way my system came with F18 BIOS which is not yet on the HP web site. HP support had my update to the F17 BIOS but that did not fix the problem.

My volume icon in the system try reads "No audio output device is installed." The audio device is not even recognized in the device manager (i.e. there is no yellow exclamation point or conflicted device to update a driver to). The system simply does not recognize the fact that a sound device exists.
I have tried many, many things:
Fresh install (as per the sticky-guide) of Windows Vista x64 Home PremiumFresh recovery from system recovery partitionTried all versions of the drivers from the HP support page (Realtek and Conexant) --- I believe I have conexant, though.Safe mode driver installsDriver installs on a driver signing rebootPutting the computer into hibernate, then resuming (odd, I know.. I heard it worked sometiems).Made sure "Windows Audio" service is enabled in Administrative ToolsServicesInstalled Windows XP drivers for "Microsoft High Definition Audio controller"Flashed BIOS to most recent version F.32Updated chispet drivers to most recent nForce availableeInstalled Vista SP2
I'm sure there must be one or two more things that I've tried and just can't remember. I am running Windows Vista x64 Home Premium with SP1.

This laptop is HP dv2000t with a 120 GB SATA drive. It was setup to dual boot Ubuntu LINUX and Win Vista. I want to change it so that the only OS is WinXP and the drive will have all space in a single NTFS partition. I booted up with a utilty CD containing Win98 DOS boot files (IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, etc.) and also containing a partition manager program. I deleted all existing partitions and created a NTFS partition containing the entire 120 GB space. Then I booted with a Win XP installation CD to start installing Win XP - but the Win XP setup program says there is no hard drive installed. That leaves me dead in the water. Note: my utility CD (Win98 DOS) accesses the HD just fine. Does anybody know why the Win XP setup program thinks there is no HD installed?

I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!

I received my Precision M4400 with Win 7 Pro x64 pre-installed, and using it for audio recording and playing everything works great. However, since Win7x64 drivers do not exist for some of my audio devices,
I decided to put in a new HD (same as the original, only larger) double-booting XPx86 and Win7x64. So I installed XP on one partition of the new HD and Win7x64 from the CD that shipped with the M4400. Big problem...
Neither XPx86 nor the re-installed Win7x64 are able to deliver anything but crackles and pops and noise only slightly resembling music. Forget about recording...

I just finished formatting my hard drive and installing Windows 7 Pro (coming from Vista Ultimate).
My computer will not automatically switch between running the internet via wireless, and running on the ethernet cable.
Here's what happens... I have the ethernet cable plugged in, I unplug it and it should automatically switch to wireless and still be connected to the router, but it doesn't.
And it does the same thing vice versa. Ethernet cable is unplugged and I am connected wirelessly to the router, I plug the cable back in and it is still running on the wireless.

I bought a WWAN card for my XPS 1530 and installed it today.
While doing a bit of googling I came across a modification to the registry that allows you to enable a GPS feature on the WWAN card, so I tried it. A quick reboot later and my XPS 1530 has GPS enabled.
I've not been outside to try this as of yet, so I was wondering if anyone else has done this or has any experience of it?

but on the card is said revision A01. In the BIOS, the Video BIOS version is 005.071.022.028.002.000. I wasn't aware they're made 2 revisions of the 7900GTX, is this card still safe to flash with the modified BIOS here?

2) How do I remove that particular software completely?

I recently purchased an XPS 14 ultrabook unit.
I noticed that the OS was installed in the HDD instead of the mSata Solid State Drive, I was wondering if this is a normal standard factory setting or is there something wrong with my unit?
I believe that the whole point of the SSD drive was for quick booting and this is obviously not the case in my system.

has anyone of you new owners of XPSS16 login to the link below, register and download the pre-installed software for your laptop? well,
i've tried and got registered but right after i pressed Register System and allow Syspro.exe to run, nothing happens.
this is frustrating. the SW like PowerDVD for bluray, Roxio and face recognition are not part of the CDs included and we new owners supposed to login, register and download the SW ourselves .....

got the Mini 9 at Best Buy yesterday, with 1GB Ram and 8GB HDD.
The HD measured 7.1 GB in Windows with about 3GB free.
I took McAfee Security off it (don't like it and only 30-day trial), loaded AVG Anti-Virus, Windows Defender, Word 2000, and IE 7 and the latest Windows security upgrades.
Now it has less than 1GB left free. (And .NET framework 3.5 wouldn't load - possibly due to memory).
I don't know if there are temporary files that I could delete, but I am concerned that in six months, she won't be able to load security fixes b/c the HD is full.
How are others handling this, and is this typical?
I am considering telling her to return it for an Asus with a real HD. I know there are 16GB and 32GB SSD cards out there, along with external HD's, but don't want to deal with that expense and bother.

I have one of the higher end specs of the 8930g but it is struggling with simple stuff. Even FireFox can get CPU to 100%!
I recently bought a hauppauge hd pvr and when I tried to edit video it became very slow!
It has quad core 2ghz processor 6m cache 1066fsb. When I paid £1200 for it I would have thought it would he more than good enough for stuff like this. Would upgrading the processor fix this problem?
If so, is there a list of which processors would be compatible? I have 4gb RAM and 1tb hard drive space...

I have an 1810TZ and then I bought an 1810T. (Long Story)
My problem is with the TZ:
I made an Image of the system, as suggested, then I "Upgraded" the Win 7 Home system to Pro.
But I screwed up by installing the 32bit version instead of the 64bit.
The only way it would let me come back to the 64bit version of Pro was to do a "Clean install".
Here’s my problem:
1) Now the PC takes a Loooong Time to boot.
2) The PC has a 320Gb HDD but shows only 185Gb of "Total space" on C: .
The T with the same HDD, shows 285Gb total space.
Wow... Win 7 Pro takes 35GB of disk space? Did I do something wrong here too?
3) Now there is a hidden "System" D: drive using 100Mb, that was not there before.
I don't know how to get rid of the D: drive. It won't let me delete it or access it.
Something is weird here. I did not install any applications yet.
The PC does not recognize the "Image Disks" I made.
I started to re-install Win 7 Pro… but I didn't think that would get rid of the D: drive or fix the problem, so I didn't do it.
I think I need to re-format the HDD. But I'm not sure how to do it right and don't want to make things worse.
This is not the DOS 3.1 machine I used to have.
On the other hand:
When I got the 1810T I did a “Clean install” of WIN 7 Pro 64bit before I did anything else. There are no problems with the "T".
I ordered a Factory System Disk for the "TZ" from Acer and it should be here in a couple of days. I ordered it before I found this forum.

I just installed Windows 7 x64 from scratch. Thing is, it shows 4GB of installed memory, but only 3GB is accessible.
Resource Monitor shows 1026MB of memory being "hardware reserved".
I've had this problem ever since adding the 4GBx2 sticks (DDR2-667) in my machine. I've tried 3.50 and 3.60 bios on Acer's site, but it doesn't make a difference.
Processor is a T5500, but the chipset is i945PM, so it supports 4GB of ram. Is there a way to remap the ram so that the whole 4GB can be used?

My notebook originally came with 2x512 MB RAM and a little while ago, I installed 1 stick of Kingston 2GB PC2-5300 RAM and I saw an improvement in its speed.
Just the other day, I installed another stick of an indentical 2GB Kingston, and now the boot-up and switching bertween program seemed noticably slower.
I don't know what is going on!
Also, another problem that poped up was that after every shut down, when the notebook boots back up, all my settings has been resetted to stock, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music etc has been cleared (although they remain in the HDD), but they come back after I perform a system restore.

Removing the screws on the bottom plate of the 13" was really hard imo. I had to use plyers to have enough grip on the screwdriver to remove them, and it slipped twice (with hairline scratches) -- probably better anyways. I wear belts and worry about the buckle scratching up the bottom, but this just eliminates my OCD -- and it doesn't look horrendous but my heart stopped when I slipped, hoping I didn't too badly scar the machine .
The drive is noticeably faster than my stock Hitachi 250GB 5400rpm drive (which is now in an external enclosure: Newegg.com - Nippon Labs 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Enclosure for SATA I and SATA II Hard Drive Model EN-25SATA). I also notice an increase in the system vibration, but this probably a standard thing anyone would feel going from 5400 rpm to 7200rpm. I have yet to see how it holds up after remembering my favorite apps and battery life but will report once I have a better grasp...............
