Suddenly the scroller on the touchpad has stopped working.
The small touchpad icon has also disappeared from the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Dec 9, 2014I've got a new Inspiron 15 (S/N DPDYC12) with Ubuntu, installed Win7 x64 on it, most drivers from the Dell site, and on launch it brings up the error "Synaptics touchpad 64-bit enhancements has stopped working". When I try to enter mouse options in control panel, I get the error "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver'. Tried reinstalling the driver, rebooting, etc. How do I fix it?

Dec 5, 2014I have a new Inspiron 5547 w/Windows 7, everything is working well except for the Touchpad. Initially the touchpad was working fine, then it stopped responding, only when I attached a USB mouse could I use the laptop. I re-installed drivers and the Touchpad worked correctly again. A few days later, the trackpad stopped working again....reinstalled drivers yet again and everything worked fine. Now for the 3rd time in 4 days the trackpad is not working. Is this a hardware or Windows 7 Issue?

Nov 17, 2008about 2 months ago i bought an Acer 5920G, a week or so ago suddenly the touchpad stopped working, i dont recall how it happened, i think i just booted Windows Vista as i usually do and the touchpad didnt work when i tried to click my user name so i could enter my password to logon.
I thought maybe the driver had gone bad so i rebooted and booted Windows XP( on a different partition) and in windows xp the touchpad also didnt work anymore.
Is this a hardware failure? Or are there other possibilities? I tried removing the driver and reinstalling, but it still didnt work.

Sep 27, 2014The Synaptics touchpad on my DV6-2113tx stopped working a few days ago. The light on the top says its active but it doesn't work. Cannot get it to go inactive either. Have installed the new drivers from the hp site but still no luck. This is what I see under mouse properties.

When I installed Windows 7, I receive error message "Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit Enhancements has stopped working." Wen I close this my touchpad start working erratically. While typing cursor moves itself without touch or click.
The driver given on Dell site under Windows 7 is same as for Windows 8. I also tried drivers from Synaptics website but nothing worked.

Feb 23, 2013I have recently updated the BIOS on my E530 laptop to version 2.08 (the previously installed version was 1.xx, probably 1.37 as far as I remember, but am not sure about the exact version..). After the update the laptop keyboard and touchpad stopped working in Windows.
The keyboard does, however, work in the BIOS and both (keyboard and touchpad) work when the computer enters the Windows-startup-screen (where it suggests to fix hard drive errors etc.).
I am using Windows 8 all along and before I never had problems with my hardware. Now both the keyboard and touchpad are recognized in Window's Device manager, but are known to have troubles. There is also a PCI Device recognized in the category "Other devices", but it's missing any drivers (I wonder if there is a connection..). All those three are recognized as such by the Lenovo Solutions Center as well.
I have tried reinstalling the UltraNav drivers, but it wouldn't work. Also, I've tried finding any possible configuration regarding my problem in the BIOS, but was unsuccessful. If I attach an external mouse or keyboard, they work. I really don't know what else to do to get my laptop's keyboard & touchpad working!

Dell :: E1505 Randomly Stopped Working
Sep 23, 2009So my E1505 randomly stopped working on me. I'm thinking the mobo is shot, but thought I would ask everyone here and see if you can shed some light on it.
So basically, the machine just shut off and when I try to turn it on the numlock button lights up, and the caps lock and scroll lock buttons flash. This lasts for about 30 seconds, and then all power shuts off. Nothing comes up on the screen, and it doesn't even sound like it is trying to work. I've checked all connections, reseated/thermal greased CPU, everything I could think of.

May 27, 2010Got my new XPS M1730 in December 2008 and all was well for the first few months till the graphic issues started and the Nvidia driver stopped working and has recovered problem.
So three new cards and after a long battle they eventually agreed to swap me out with an Alieware M17X R2.
I have two questions .....
what happens if i still have the old XPS in a box upstairs waiting to be collected and they have not collected it after 3 months and will they even want it back now...they did say they wanted it back and i would be contacted when this collection had been arranged ...
however three months have passed and im not going to phone them and ask them to come get it ....and also what can i do to get the machine back to working properly ... ie how can i find out if it definitly is the graphic card and what are my
options .... are the 9800 cards plauged with the same problems .
As for the Alienware im not convinced i like it as much as i did the XPS ... fan noise during gaming is almost embarrasing ...

Mar 3, 2010I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with an Nvidia 8600gt. I have a dell 2409 24 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor and a Samsung 22inch 1680x1050 LCD TV. I use one or the other depending what room I'm in. Both are connected using VGA cables.
These have always worked perfectly, today when I tried plugging into either one they are detected as 'generic non pnp monitor' and I get a choice of standard resolutions up to 1600 x 1200. These always used to run at their native resolutions and were detected as Samsung and Dell.
I have reinstalled the display drivers, power cycled everything, gpu seems to be running fine according to gpu-z.
I have reverted to a working backup but that made no difference. Im using windows 7 64bit.

When I tried using them again this week, I noticed the speakers stay absolutely quiet and don't make any sounds. However, if I plug in a headset on the onboard soundcard jack the sounds work fine.
I have had this laptop with me on multiple trips but afaik this happened during one, so is it possible that something has disconnected inside the laptop itself or is it maybe a common bug with these laptops?

Apr 12, 2009I am getting the above msg when trying to use the built-in Web cam for Video or for “picture capture”, i.e. photos.
I removed everything with the Dell camera and reinstalled the “Creative Labs Dell Webcam Manager , 140 mb”. No joy
I also installed from the Dell site "input device drivers"- "Creative labs driver, R2RC1, A04", no joy.
Webcam works fine with Messenger therefor I am cautious to “reinstall/remove, disable” or so the Webcam Device in Device Manager since I don’t want to ruin it further
I did a bit of searching and noticed others found solutions mainly by reinstalling drivers though this has not worked for me. Would someone have any other tips?

Mar 20, 2013Yesterday while I was working on a spreadsheet, the left button of my trackpad on my Dell XPS 15z just mysteriously stopped working. Â I assumed that maybe my system was slowing down, as I tend to multitask and often will have a LOT going on at once. Â So I restarted, since it had been about a three days since my system was restarted. Â Anyway, it did no good. Â Still, the left button wasn't working.
So, I then pressed it SUPER hard and it started working. Â Today, I noticed that it was messing up again. Â However now, depressing the key good and hard doesn't seem to magically fix the situation. Â Moreover, it doesn't work at all now instead of intermittent workability.
There wasn't any sort of update or anything... Â I'm really confused. Â Right button has no issues, but clearly I need both. Â Not sure what I should do.
