I have upgraded my M4400 with a QX9300 processor...but all I get is BSOD on boot.
I can run the BIOS memory test without problems, and I can boot in safe mode.
If I attempt a normal boot, I get a Blue Screen Of Death complaining that the BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant
I have an E6500 with a T9400 CPU (Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz, 1066MHz FSB).
I would like to upgrade it to a CPU that is either a quad core or dual core with hyper-threading. The only CPU I can see that is even a possibility is the QX9300 (Core 2 Extreme, 2.53 GHz, 1066MHz FSB)..
The CPU I have is listed by Intel as supporting BGA479 and PGA478 sockets. But, I don't know which my motherboard has...
The QX9300 is only listed to support PGA478 sockets.
Reading on here, it seems like even if I am able to upgrade, I might be opening myself up to heat problems... ..
OTOH, I also read that the the E6500 is identical to the M4400 except for the lid. And the M4400 is available with the QX9300 CPU...
So, can anybody tell me if I can replace my CPU with the QX9300? If so, would it require anything more than just buying the new CPU?..
I have 2 indetical laptops dell 9400, 2 years old and well getting a bit 'done' used every day for at least 8H in weeksn around 12 so under a lot of stress.
I bought the Toshiba X300 myself
and for my girlfriend the Acer Aspire 8930G-584G32Bn
Now I'm looking to upgrade both.
X300 currently holds a T9400, would like to upgrade it to the QX9300. Shouldn't be a problem I think, saw the X300 fitted with this processor (but with 2X 9800GTS instead of 1x 9800 GTX.
But for the acer I'm absolutly not sure what I can do with that one....
After doing some research and reading,I'm looking to purchase a Latitude E6400 from the outlet.
I can't decide which processor to get. I found two configurations with the same price but different processors.
One has the T9400 and the other has the P8600. Should I go with the T9400 since it has a 6mb cache? If you had to chose , what would you guys consider the best option?
Is there a big difference between the 2 not in games and in games(RTS games)?

Image you're using your notebook for things like 3D CAD, photo and video editing and of course for travelling. For my purpose I think the M2400 with its 14,1" monitor should fit perfectly. The perfect combination between mobility and performance.

I use my laptop about 10-14 hours daily (job and home/university), so it’s very important for me that the laptop will be cool and quiet. The tasks which I do are: programming (C++, PHP...) with Eclipse and other IDEs, UML programs, databases, surfing a lot... I don't use CAD or similar, only a bit a photoshop.
I got the same price for e6400 with P9500 and for m2400 with T9400.
I know that one difference between P9500 and T9400 is the power consumption. There are more differences? What is better for my tasks? T9400 are more powerful?
I chose the Intel WiFi 5300 over the WiFi 5100 as I understand it is the better card. However, a few hours later I received an email telling me my order was cancelled because the 5300 was 'unavailable'.
I contacted Dell chat this morning, and was told that the part was available but was incompatible with my processor choice. Apparently the 5300 is a Centrino 2 part, and is only compatible with a Centrino 2 processor. I thought the T9400 was a Centrino 2 processor?
If it's true that the parts are incompatible should I go with the T9400/WiFi 5100 or the P8400/WiFi 5300? The Dell chat guy told me that these were the only compatible configurations. If I try to order T9400/5300 again will my order be cancelled again - anyone else tried this?
I am planning to upgrade my P8600 to qx9300, but i don't know if the fan sink can do with the heat or not. (When i play 3d games)

My plan is to swap the 80 GB with my tablet PC's 120 GB and install 320 GB in modular bay also get 4 GB RAM bringing total cost to about $1650
Pros: Manageable size, RGB LED
Cons: Additional cost for RAM and modular bay HDD, Not sure about TrueLife Glossyness yet!
M6400: $1700
QX9300 - 4GB - 120 GB SSD + 250 GB 72K - WXGA LCD - Nvidia 2700
Pros: Pretty much everything
Cons: Low res LCD and BIG+Heavy even for occasional travel or meetings.
I could find cheaper configurations but I picked the one's with QX9300. There are some available in both machines that are T9900 and are ~$300 cheaper.
Questions:
1. Am I making the right decision by getting QX9300 given my somewhat non power usage? Is heat an issue in either? I do want to future proof at least for 2 years.
2. If I go for lower CPU should I go for x9100 or T9900 or Q9000/9100, they do show up occasionally on the outlet site.
3. I really find the second hard drive option useful. Does the slightly higher mobility of m4400 justify additional cost to buy and install the mod bay HDD?
4. Are the prices reasonable for the configurations above? I can find a m4400 with T9900/4GB/250GB/WXGA for ~$1150 and a M6400 with T9900/4GB/NO SSD for ~$1200
I bought an Intel QX9300 online for my upcoming Alienware m17x. When I tested the QX9300 in a Dell Inspiron 1420 today, the system fail to boot into bios.
Does anyone know if Inspiron 1420 motherboard support qx9300 or not? I am trying to figure out if I received a DOA chip or not.
CPU-Z is showing that my T9400 occasionally changes to either 10 or 10.5 multiplier. SiS Sandra Lite also lists it as a 2.79GHz processor.
I thought it was locked down at 9.5. Guessing it's due to it being an ES... Is there a way to control it?
I would like to know if anyone recently bought a HDX18T with the QX9300 processor? I asked HP and they said that the Intel Extreme Tuning Utlity was pre-installed with the QX9300 processor, but can anyone verify this?

HP recently added the QX9300 CPU to the list of processors for the HDX18T Notebook. My question is, will HP Include the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility with the notebook? The Intel XTU will allow you to overclock the QX9300 Extreme processor... it would be stupid to pay so much money for the cpu without being able to overclock it... Intel claims that the utility will ship with OEM systems?
View 10 Replies View Relatedi recently bought this laptop and im running stress tests on this laptop w/ prime95 and told by a fellow board member(who has been of wonderful help) that they detect issue w/ my heatsink mounting/paste for my quad core qx9300. it was stated that thermal throttle shouldnt happen until temperatures into the 100 celsius range on a laptop?
1) i start the test and all 4 cores are steady running through tests
2) after 3 min, the first 2 cores max out at 91, 90 celsius while the last 2
are 89,88. The first 2 cores start going down in temp to about 76, 75 and
never complete another test while the last 2 cores are 85, 86 celsius and
run through an additional 8 tests afterwards.
can anyone give more feedback or possibly try these tests also? i run 64 bit vista also.
I just setup my brand new M6400 (well brand new from dell outlet). My config is QX9300, Dual HardDrives (primary is SSD), Nvidia 2700. I connected two external monitors using ePort plus dock and as I begin working on this new setup,
I notice a faint (but irritating once your ears tune in) churning/hissing/clicking (hard to describe) sound from the system. I have updated Bios to latest version. Os is Win 7 64bit.
1. Would the QX9300 or Q9200 work in the 8930?
2. Would 6GB RAM work?
3. Would the new Intel 80GB SSD work?
4. Lastly, Is the 8930 an MXM laptop?
I've had my XPS 1340 for a few weeks. While everything is great, I keep getting crashes. I have had a two freezes where I had to hard boot it and 6 or 7 blue screens when trying to wake it up from sleep. Anyone have any ideas before I call Dell? I already updated everything.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 1730 is not cooperating this morning. Been trying to figure out why Im having a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) everytime I try to open anything. It even crashed during a system restore and also during a power off at the Windows is Shutting Down screen.
Things had been working great up until last night. I was reading something on a webpage when I got a pop up window on the page I was on, and when I clicked the window closed, I crashed to blue screen of death.
Haven't been able to do much since then. Not sure if its hardware or software related, but I do notice that my McAfee isn't running now and when I try to update it says 'Components Are Missing' and to reinstall.
Can't get far enough in a reinstall before I crash again, so thats getting me no where.
I was able to do a system restore to a day earlier, but the problem is still there.
I also have no way to network in safe mode due to only having wireless internet access.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to get help to find out what might be causing the problem. Please let me know. I can follow instruction if anyone can walk me through what I need to look for.
My 9months old XPS M1530 has still got the BSOD problem (after being replaced the faulty RAM). this morning i got the problem again but as i was dashing to my work i didn't take a note of the screen.

I've read posts and none have helped in this particular issue.
This first happened in Vista Home (came with laptop) and bsod at EVERY startup so I boot to cd and installed Windows 7. Ran great until I installed the new nvidia drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com.
I read threads where people have had no issue installing them on sxps13's and received better video performance. I guess my question is: should I waste my time battling with dell to receive another lemon unit that will take a month to ship to me again, never ever ever upgrade my video drivers or possibly I don't have a bad unit

Regular text "blah blah blah failed you suck at life uninstall kthxbye" It says the error is caused from nvlddmkm.sys.
I did some google-ing and came back with some kind of incompatibility between vista and nvidia drivers. I'm fully updated to SP1, I have the 177.70 forceware drivers; I've tried it with other drivers but it's still not working. Ive patched the game, tried it overclocking and not, and nothing seems to work.
