View 4 RepliesLooks like the m1730 now carries 45nm Penryn processors: The base is now 2.4GHz T8300 and T9300 option is for ~$125 more. I wonder if the performance differences justify that extra $125.
View 10 Replies View RelatedDell is offering for the same price.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI was wondering that since the socket for the processor in the M1730 is a socket P and thats the same socket the new Penryns will use, will it be possible to just drop one in like we were able to do so on the E1705 when Merom came out? The run at a much lower voltage and from this review [url] it would increase battery life and is more powerful to boot so it just sounds like a good idea.
Crap, looks like I messed up the topic for this thread.
In the US, the M1330 already has the LED backlit and the penryn for some time now. Yet the 1530 is just sitting there...
Other manufacturers have began offering newer GPUs than the 8600, but still nothing from dell on their 15.4".
They teased us with the addition of the 1530 under the "XPS Gaming Laptop" header, but its exactly the same as the regular one.
I know some folks have put a T9300 in their m1330, but the screenshots I've seen show the bios incorrectly detecting the CPU speed (A06 I believe). I want to know if the new A07 bios has corrected this issue, but I never saw any followup. Can anyone who has done this upgrade confirm/deny if A07 fixed the detection issue?
View 15 Replies View RelatedIt seems like the temperature readings from both cores of my P8400 on my Dell Latitude E6500 running Windows 7 RC have some sort of minimum built into them. The reported temperatures will never drop below 32 for Core 0, and 39 for Core 1. Even after I resume from suspend, when the CPU should be at room temperature, as soon as I boot up it's 39/32. Similarly, while temperatures above that on SpeedFan show normal fluctuations, like you expect from a CPU temperature reading, once it hits the floor, it just becomes a flat straight line.
I'm not sure if this is the sensors, the software, or what.
I thought I had a Montevina CPU but according to CPU Z it reports it as Penryn
what's the diff? which is better?
I have 6 MB L2 cache
i am interested to know if the pogo stylus will work on the trackpad of the penryn mbp; also, what is a good software that allow us to draw mindlessly? since i am only drawing some simple graphs for economics classes i am not looking for a wacom intuous/bamboo level of precisions and wanting to use it before making a 300ish purchase of a new HDD for my x41t (233x CF isn't fast enough i guess)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought the new 13" MBP 2.53Ghz 128SSD. Which CPU code name is in my MBP and what size nanometer is it?
Also is it the same code name as the 15" and 17" with higher clock speeds?
i got my santa rosa MBP not too long ago (i bought it second hand). i am extremely happy with the machine as it is a 2.4ghz c2d with 160g hdd at 5400rpm and 8600gt 256mg gpu. i know this has been discussed many times, so i have been reading about the multi touch trackpad and was a bit bummed that i didnt get the newer 2008 penryn model instead. 2 days ago i was thiking about replacing the SR MBP top case with a penryn MBP top case and have the multi touch, 4 finger gesture ability on my SR MBP. therefore i started googling to see of people have actually done conversions and worked..fortunately, i found a member on this forum and confirmed that it actually works...but unfortunately there was not guide for this operation. I would really want to hear from those that has performed such replacement operation and perhaps give me some tips and what i may need to watch out for. in addition to that, does anybody know of a guide for this replacement? would the penryn top case keyboard and trackpad connections fit the SR MBP? any modifications needed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ordered my M90 on Dell Outlet a while ago. Top of the line everything except the CPU. It's a T2300, I believe (Core Duo, 1.6 Ghz). In preparation for Windows 7, I want upgrade the CPU for speed and for 64 bit.
I'm looking at a T7200 (2.0 Ghz, 667 fsb) for under $100 new, but pulled. First off, just to double check, this will work in my laptop, right?
Second, how involved is replacing the CPU? I've built desktops before no problem, and I've repaired my wife's screen on her HP, but never on my M90. I assume it won't be too bad as long as I follow the manual and keep track of parts.
I've been putting together cheap, old Gateway Solo 9550 notebooks for a few years now. They use the Coppermine 1066, which is just good enough for Win2KPro, and really light work.
I got a great deal on my Inspiron 9200 from Dell only to find it discontinued just weeks later. My fault, but then again, I got the best I could afford at the time, which was the most slimmed down version.
Here & there, I upgraded everything; CPU, RAM, hdd, DVD-RW, added Bluetooth, better battery, etc.
But I've reached the limit. I can't even overclock it .....
I have a Latitude E4200 and I want to upgrade the SSD to an Ultra performance SSD, is this possible and how would you do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to upgrade my M90's Quadro FX 2500M (WUXGA) to another one wich support CUDA (2700M, 160M or any other geforce, i'm not sticked with Quadro ).
Is this possible ?
Do I have to purchase another version of Vista Home Premium to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought this the other day for my Latitude XT:
http://www.amazon.com/32GB-1-8-inch-...4&sr=8-2-fkmr0
Wanted to replace the 4200rpm hard drive currently in there with something faster. I updated the BIOS to A09 (January 2010) to prevent any compatibility issues. I plugged it in and booted the computer, popped my Windows CD in, goes through the pre-load stuff. When it gets to the part about setting up (prior to where it asks about formatting and all that) I get a BSOD.
Sorry for the brief description but I'm trying to work on it while I type. Any suggestions? Do I have it plugged in incorrectly? What should I be looking for?
EDIT: I checked for the hard drive in the BIOS. There's not many options to see what HDD is detected. However, when my 80GB drive is connected it shows "80 GB drive". When I have the SSD plugged in nothing shows up in the BIOS for it. Does this mean the SSD is not compatible with my machine?
EDIT2: Forgot to mention their website claims it's compatible with my laptop:
http://www.activemp.com/SSD/18-IDE-P...SD-upgrade.htm
EDIT3: I sent them a "polite" e-mail about my situation and will let you all know if I have any success.
I'm apologizing in advance if I am missing something or didnt perform a good enough search. I am usually very good with finding information but I think I have second-guessed myself to death on this now!
I am upgrading my t5670 in my vostro 1510. it has the GM965 chipset and I am talking to an ebay seller right now about buying a T9300 SLAZB chip. Now I have looked and found that it is "FCBGA6" vs. a "socket P" and this concerns me...will this 479 socket chip work just fine in my laptop?
Is there a difference (positive/negative) if I choose this chip over say, a SLAYY one?
Spending significant time tonight, looking through many tutorials, this site often being the one I visited the most, I've decided to upgrade my e1705 .....
View 4 Replies View RelatedNormally I can do this easlly, but for some reason I'm having a hard time bringing my XPS16 Video drivers up to speed.
Maybe it's because I'm used to dealing with Nvidia drivers....
Can someone detail the process?
So I bought a M65 precision a few years ago (3-4)
Now that a good windows OS 64bit is available, I decided to to upgrade my ram from 2gb to the maximum 4gb.
After seeing that my computer recognizes 4GB but is only using 3GB I got pissed off.
After some research I found this link:
[url]
"So you pay a really huge premium (compared with 2Gb RAM) to get 4Gb of RAM ... and so how much memory do you expect the BIOS to make available to the OS. For a Dell M65 the answer is just 3.071Gb.
Response from Dell ...
The processor only has 32 address lines, limiting it to an addressing map of 4 gigabytes.
The chipset, PCI devices, PCI express region, and video cards use some of this map, and the BIOS correctly reports this range as unavailable to the operating system. If the user installs 4 GB of physical memory, then the processor has no way to address the memory that overlaps with these regions, already in use. The chipset directs memory access to the appropriate device rather than sending it to random access memory (RAM).
On Dell's new line of desktops, PCI express uses 500 megabytes (MB) in the map; integrated video takes 256 MB right below PCI express, leaving 3.25 GB of memory available to the operating system via RAM. In some cases, less RAM is available depending on what other add-in cards are installed.
I've been the owner of an e1705 for about a year, and I'm really tempted to upgrade it.
Current base specs:
1.73ghz Core Duo T2250
80GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
1GB RAM
NVIDIA 7900GS
Windows Vista Home Premium
This notebook is used for occasional gaming (counter strike source) and has become my desktop replacement.
I was thinking of upgrading to 2GB RAM and either a 100GB 7200 RPM hard drive or a 160GB 5400 RPM hard drive.
Buying 4gb of ram for my 1710, what is the best? I found this but have no clue if it has fast enough
[url]
it has a Case Latency of 5. Where is the best place to buy memory?
got a tierd 6000 i know the hdd is on its last legs, and as ill be buying a hdd wondered what ram, cpu, gfx etc i can put in it, just want to know what parts are needed, i know its ddr2 ram and am i right saying there only able to cope with 2gb, seen corsair ones,
what pin is the cpu and whats the best one i can get? and what graphics card can i get?
So I have 2 days to decide whether I want the CompleteCare for my system which I've just bought or not. I have one question though..
Lets say my laptop breaks or I spill coffee all over it or whatever, will they be kind enough to send a better laptop as a replacement?
I was thinking of trying to upgrade a couple of parts of my Dell 1520, namely the hard drive and cpu (i've been told the 8600M GT is the best graphics card the 1520 can handle?).
Now I don't have a clue about what processors I'm able to upgrade to whatsoever, so if anyone can stear me in the right direction that would be fantastic. My current Dell 1520 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0GHz if that helps at all?
As for the hard drive, is the "Western Digital 320GB 2.5" Hard Drive Scorpio Black SATAII 7200rpm" drive compatible? I think the 1520 uses SATA right?
I'm sorry if this has been covered in some other thread. But I was wondering if you could tell me whether or not it is advisable to purchase a new CPU (for example the P9600) and installing it yourself?
It seems rather simple but according to Dell, changing the CPU yourself is not recommended.
I have built lots and desktop PC's in my time, but know very little about laptops. I have a few year old Dell M170 XPS which is getting a little ragged.
I thought I recalled when buying it that it had a dedicated graphics card which could be upgraded in the future.
It currently has a 7800 GO (I think) in it with PCI-E interface.
To upgrade my 9400's PSU can I just buy a 130 watt brick from eBay or do I need to upgrade something inside too.

I believe he has the Geforce 8400. What are your thoughts on this? Would upgrading the processor help?
