I have Thinkpad Edge E330 bought this July, with win8 downgraded to win7. It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have.Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.

I have an Intel HD 4400 graphics solution. The monitor says:

I use a Display Port cable for the connection.
My OS is Win 8.1 64bit
I have used the HP support assistant to update all hardware drivers...
The monitor on my HP Pavilion dv9830us laptop has not been working for some time and I have had to use an external CRT monitor for my display. A couple nights ago, my operating system (Ubuntu Linux 10.04) failed to load and because I can't get video feed to my external monitor until the video drivers on Ubuntu loads, I am unable to run Ubuntu's repair feature and the beginning of boot.
Is there a way I can get my laptop to use my external monitor at all times, even at the BIOS screen? Is there a setting in BIOS for this?
One of our employees has an HP Pavilion G6 laptop. He uses an external display at work but has to keep the screen of the laptop open. If he closes the screen, then the video to the external display is power off.
What are the settings to allow the laptop screen to be closed and still be able to get video to an external display.
My screen is no longer good so im trying to connect a external display.Been trying for hours trying to get the external display to work of boot.Ive tryed everything changing 2 sets of hd cables and svga cables. The function key. The Laptop does recognize the display but seems to go into powersave mode or something.The only way i can get the external display to work is if i pull the battery and wait a bit then power up the display will work with a notice on the screen that cmos will be reset to defaults then restarts and back to where i was again.Pavilion dm4-1160us.

I'm just wondering whether there is a way to attach two external monitors to the laptop, since there is only one VGA port.
I have a Vostro 13 with a hard drive ribbon cable problem that I now run with a Linux distro from a USB stick. The question is this: The GP60N External DVD drive has two USB connections (one of which I assume is primarily for extra power), but the laptop only has two USB ports, one of which is taken up by the OS stick - can I power one of the USBs on the DVD drive with an external power source? Or am I better off getting a powered hub and using that for the extra juice?
And, yes, I have replaced the ribbon cable. The new one failed after a day or two.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was getting frustrated with my external monitor because the screen color was turning dark purplish at times, so I went into Device Manager and deleted both default monitor entries instead of just one under Monitors in hopes that it would've gotten rid of the purple haze so to speak.
I tried unhooking the monitor and unplugging everything before I deleted the default monitor entries in Device Manager, but it didn't get rid of the purple screen.
I have a fairly old notebook Dell Inspiron 4000 with WinMe installed and the display is no longer working assumed due to a bad or broken LCD, which is why I'm using the external monitor.
The external monitor has been working fine for months until it started turning purple on me when it was being used with the notebook. When the monitor is hooked up with my desktop, the screen color is just fine.
The notebook has got a lot of storage on it. During the boot process on the notebook, the external monitor lights up at one point (no longer purplish), but goes blank/dark after a few seconds and says it no longer is getting a signal from the notebook
I just recently purchased a Dell Latitude E4300 and i'm pretty happy with it overall.
However, i'd like to connect an external monitor to it. I noticed that it only has a VGA port (unless i'm blind), but Dell's website makes many references to it having a DISPLAY-PORT.

my resolution on my external monitor wont display correction when hook up with the XPS 1647.
The connection is HDMI. Resolution has been set to the highest recommend 1920x1080.
If you look at the picture below, the edges of the screen won't fill up the whole screen, making everything so small and hard to read. I already turn off the display on the laptop, making the monitor as my default screen.
On my previous XPS M1530, the Nvidia 8600GT can display the resolution correction.. I find it hard to believe that ATI card are not capable of doing that or there might be something wrong with my setting
I've got a co-worker that just got an E6400 and E-Port Plus docking station with 130W power supply.
The machine is running 32-bit Windows XP with an nVidia Quadro NVS 160m and she has two Dell 2001FP monitors connected to the DVI ports on the docking station.
I can't seem to get dual displays on the external monitors. With the laptop closed and docked, the machine only recognizes one of the monitors that is plugged in to the dock.
So I've just got a e6400 for e-port plus.
Is it possible to have two external monitors AND the laptop display all running at the same time? If so how?
Even better would be this: I have two external monitors - both vga with no DVI (oh well). Can I get this working?
I bought HP 6930p with ATI graphic card, WIN 7, and connected to the external display 24" (1920x1080) trough VGA port. There is a very noticable blurry and annoying image on external display. I tried different settings, but nothing did not help. Is there any solution to this problem? could be my graphic card or vga output damaged? Since with my 4 years old toshiba notebook, image was clear.
Has anybody docking station and is DVI output working fine (clear image)?

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was working correctly and then I booted up one day, the bios worked fine but then the screen went black. I connected an external monitor to the lap-top and the laptop display works fine. As soon as I remove the external monitor, again, I get a black screen on my lap-top.
I have run the full system option of the Dell diagnostics and have 2 errors, battery and dvd flash rom. I have ordered a new battery. I have also noticed that my lap-top does appear to get quite hot.
Tried (and sometimes successful) to connect HDTV to laptop, Inspiron 5720. Now laptop screen does not display (goes black) without an external monitor physically attached. Tried using Projects and clicking on single laptop display, but if I disconnect the external monitor, the laptop screen just goes black. Not very portable if I have to lug around a second display.

Recently I am getting blue screens and later message appear saying the ATM driver stopped working. I found many problems with this driver in the past as well. When I check the relevent page for my laptop model, there is no update since 2012..
Can I update these two drivers seperately by getting updates from Intel and AMD sites?
Is there any update for catalyst control system (CCC) ?
When I try to update through the CCC or HP Support Assist, it is always no updates..
I just bought a second-hand Sony Vaio TZ 390, which came with Vista. I updated to Windows 7 and installed all the drivers. Everything seems to work but I cannot get the Vaio TZ to output to the external display. What happens is the external lcd gets a signal initially when I turn on the Vaio TZ (connected to the lcd) but it loses the signal shortly after I log into Windows 7. Btw, the lcd I use is a Samsung 2333HD.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a HP HDX18t w/ Windows 7 Home Premium and the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M video card. I'm trying to hook up a Dell 30" LCD monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 via the HDMI output using a HDMI to DVI cable. Doing so, the system will only allow the external Dell a max resolution of 1280x800 while the HDX screen stays at 1920x1080. The 1280x800 look really bad. I want to use its native resolution of 2560x1600 or atleast the 1920x1080. When I use VGA output, nothing shows up on 30" (blank black screen).
Using my 24" Dell, I can get 1920x1080 either via the VGA or HDMI (to DVI) fine. Based on my research it seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M because it just doesn't allow that high a resolution (i.e. no dual-link DVI capabilitiy). Is this true? Or am doing something wrong?
Is there any solution in using a 30" monitor with the HP HDX18t? Will one of those Matrox DualHead2Go devices work to run the 30" and 24 inch monitor simultaneous at 1920x1200. I'll be fine with that. My wife is firm in using the 30" monitor we have. Is this a loss cause and I have to get another laptop that will support a 30" external monitor? If so, any advice on which one.
Well as much as I like my MBPRO I find myself wanting an apple desktop setup...so I'm trying to figure out the best way to give myself that "desktop" feel. I'm debating the, wired keyboard, a logitech mouse (is this ok), display...I love the 24 LED but is there some adapter coming out? Or should I go 30" inch cinema? I basically want to LEAVE my laptop closed and just deal with the macbook pro as a desktop....
