Dell :: Wireless (5100) Dropping Connections
Aug 28, 2009
i was wondering if anyone else had this issue. My SXPS 16 has an intel 5100, and whenever I do any heavy downloading it invariably drops the connection after anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes. I called Dell up over it, and they claimed that it could not be a hardware issue or it would be dropping the connections more frequently, and I would see the problem worsen.
I know it isn't the network, as my old Inspiron 6400 could handle heavy network use and never had these issues. Yet, my shiny new Studio XPS 16 seems to have difficulty with it.
Anyone else notice anything like this, or have an idea of a fix? I've already tried updating the drivers, which did not fix it.

I have a Latitude XT running Vista 32bit, 64GB SSD, Bluetooth 360, and Dell 1395 WLAN card. My issue has been when I am pulling or sending large amounts of information accross the network, my Wireless stops functioning and acts as if I disabled the card. I cannot search for any networks and opening the mobility center I can turn the wireless off and on but it will not work till I reboot the Tablet.
My XT has all the current OS and Driver updates but this is really starting to bug me. This happened to me 2 times yesterday when I was copying an Adobe Standard 8 DVD to a server so that we can do installs without needing to carry the DVD. I would get about half way through the file transfer and my network would disconnect with a red X.

I comleted a factory restore on my FW, now I cannot connect to the internet.
Network Connections only shows LAN and Bluetooth options. Wireless mecha switch is on, Smartwi utility shows the wireless LAN is on. Of course, status is disconnected.
I can't find any wireless networks around me, including my trusty linksys G that would connect flawlessly prior to the restore.

HP pavilion 15.6 inch screen laptop (15-e084ca), AMD Quad Core A10-5750M and 8650 Radeon graphics, 1TB hard drive, 8 MB DDR3 SDRAM, Windows 64-bit 8.1.
I have a Monster bluetooth HD Clarity micro speaker, a Philips bluetooth shoqbox and a Philips bluetooth sound shooter.
In all 3 cases, I have been able to connect the speakers and use them but the connections are unstable. The laptop automatically breaks the connection. It's happened several times. I have many different versions of this problem.
Once the speaker is disconnected ( either I manually disonnect it myself or the laptop does it on its own) it can be extremely difficult to establish a reconnection.

I purchased a HP Pavilion g6-2288ca notebook, product number C2N59UAR, running Windows 8. Recently I've been having issues where the wireless internet will drop without warning. I've already established that the problem is not with my router or ISP, so I can only assume that there is an issue with my wireless adapter, either hardware- or software-related. I can usually connect to my home internet with no problems. However, as I've stated, the internet has been dropping unexpectedly on my computer when it can be demonstrated to be working fine on other computers and internet-connected devices in my home. Now, the thing is, running the troubleshooter and having it reset my wireless adapter usually does the trick. Unfortunately, it's often a temporary solution, as the connection will usually drop right back out after a few minutes. I've attempted to manually update my drivers, but that seems to have been fruitless. Also, the rate at which it drops seems completely random. Sometimes I'll reset my adapter and it'll work for the next six hours, and sometimes I'll reset it and it'll drop within thirty seconds.

I've been using my Sony Vaio Z-540 without a problem for about a YEAR
until recently (about a month?), my wifi has been acting up.
My wireless card is Intel 5100 AGN
The problems are:
1. Sometimes, I do not get wireless from the startup . my wireless isn't even in the Device Manager...
2. When I do get wireless (Device manager confirmed), wifi connection disappears with even the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT!
3. When I do lose the wireless driver (no more on the device manager), I put it to sleep, wait 5 seconds, wake up, and my vaio detects it. [but this isn't the case for ALL the time, sometimes I have to restart the vaio]
I thought it was a loose wire or loose card, so I opened it. The wireless card is bolted down with 2 screws. So i put everything back and it still has the SAME issue.
Also, I've updated the Intel 5100 Driver to the latest (When I finally got my Wireless driver seen on the device manager) but still the SAME problem, so I'm back on my OLD driver. still same problem, of course.
when I do have my wifi, my wifi just disappears with the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT on my laptop. It has to be still...
Ethernet connect, however, works 100%

I normally mess around with desktops but this is my first laptop. I am hoping I can put a better wirless card in the damn thing.

The DV5T seemed to be working pretty well for me and no real wireless issues.
What has happened is that since I upgraded to Windows 7 and the new drivers, I get some hitching, rubberbanding in games, slow speeds at times, etc.
Now I know Windows 7 is pretty rock solid and the new drivers came from the HP site.
But when I started googling, seems TONS of people have issues with the 5100 card and maybe I was just lucky before.
At first I noticed my card speed goes from ~50 MBPS to max of 130 MBPS. After reading, it seems even though my router supports 40ghz dual channel yadda yadda, the card only goes to 2.4 so it can't really run at 40ghz is my understanding and that 130 MBPS is pretty much the cap.
That said, it was that way before the Win 7 upgrade so that shouldn't change anything.
One thing I noticed is that in my device driver before the upgrade, it was a normal 5100 but now with the drivers, I see a 5100 AGN.
I can't find how the AGN and non-AGN versions differ?
Could it be I have AGN drivers for a non-AGN card?
Lastly, is this wireless card removable and upgradable or can I use the slot (empty) that I have for another card and disable the wireless 5100 through BIOS?

as of 2 hours ago my high speed has been stuck at 1 Mbps, much slower then its usual 65+ that I've had over the last 6 days since I got my laptop.
I'm thinking I may have received a faulty wireless card, since when I checked my wired desktop downstairs it's still at it's usual 100Mbps, and my sisters Inspiron 1420 has its normal high speed.
Now when I restart my wireless adapter (Intel 5100) the speed fluctuates between 4-38 Mbps for about a minute before dropping- and staying at 1 Mbps once again.
I checked if there are any computers stealing my wireless connection just in case, and as I thought no one is .....

I'm really trying to like my new Acer 1410. Everything was working great until I tried to connect thru the wifi. Turned out the connection was really weak. This is in my house where all my other laptops have had no problem connecting.
So I try for a couple of hours trying every setting possible on my router and on my laptop settings. Finally, I open up the bottom of my laptop and find out the black wire that goes to the Intel Wireless card isn't even connected! In fact the metal connector itself is missing entirely
So me not knowing much about electronics, I cut off a 2 inch wire (with connector) from my old laptop's wireless card and taped it to the new laptop's open black wire. Plug it in and now the signal is better, but it still sucks. Any advice anyone? I really would rather fix it myself if I can. Would it work better if I solder the two wires together? Or is the Intel 5100 a POS and nothing is going to help it?

So she downloaded a recent WinXP update and when it restarted, she got the BSOD with this description only: 0x0000007e (0xc000001d, 0x80537008, 0xbaccf3b8, 0xbaccf0b4). Attempts to reboot just let directly to the BSOD. I couldn't even safeboot... it would just freeze up on me before it even got to the WinXp logo.
I did a several google searches for the error and tried a number of different things to no avail. I decided to just do a clean install of WinXP. The format/install went fine. BUT... the internet connections are missing. I installed all the drivers in the proper order. When I go to Control Panel>Network Connections there's nothing there. No icons or anything. PLUS none of the USB ports work .....

Product Name: HP Pavilion g4-2002tx Notebook PC
Operating System : Microsoft Windows 7 ( 64-bit)
My wireless internet connection has been working fine until recently when the connection with my home's internet modem became intermittent . There will either be a computer icon with a red cross icon shown which states " Not connected. No connections are available" or the fully filled white bars with a yellow warning sign icon which indicates "Limited Internet Access", thus I could not connect to the Internet anymore.
I believe that the fault does not lie in the modem because the other devices in my home such as smartphones or other laptops were able to connect well with the modem when the problem which the laptop encounters has occured.
I have tried restarting the laptop repeatedly or even perform a System Restore until there is Internet Access ,however I can only have access to the internet for a short while (not more than an hour) before the above mentioned problem occurs again and the whole vicious cycle continues.
For now, the internet connection seems to be working fine again , however I do not know when the wireless connection will go haywire again.

I just recieved my Latitude E6400 today. I like the laptop, but the Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN adapter continually drops my wireless connections to my home Linksys WRT54G access point and router. This is a version 5 Linksys unit running in mixed b/g mode with WEP encryption. It is running with a unique SSID which is not broadcast.
At first, my connections would drop and it seemed related to the Control Point software preinstalled on the E6400. So I uninstalled the Control Point System Management and Connection Management software, and this seemed to result in a small improvement: I can do a download successfully, but if I'm idle any amount of time the connection drops. This last makes me think power to the Wifi Link card might be getting turned off somewhere if there is no activity. However the Control Point Security Manager software is still installed (as it came from the factory) and might also be contributing to the problem.
I've used an 802.11n-compatible WiFi card in my home. The driver version for the WiFi Link is 12.0.0.82 and is dated 07/08/2008. The Linksys access point has been here a couple of years and is running Linksys firmware version v1.00.6. It is set up for 128-bit WEP encryption. I've had numerous laptops connect to it, all with older Broadcom b/g cards, and as long as the WEP encryption is set properly there has not been a connection problem. now to see if I can duplicate the connection dropping issue.

For some time now I have had the problem that the Access Connections configuration window doesn't open. The icon in the taskbar does work as expected, it shows the configured profiles and I can switch between them. But I cannot edit them or create new ones, because the configuration window doesn't start. The access connections task is running in the background, but there is no visible window.
I'm using version 6.10 under Windows 7, and the problem exists on several different ThinkPad models (R500, R61). Reinstalling didn't work.
In two cases I know that Windows 7 has been updated from Vista, I'm not sure whether this is the case for all of the affected machines.

I have a user with a 68855TU. Using Windows 7 64 bit.
When running dual screens and connecting to the Terminal server with Dual screen, dragging the mouse cursor to the top of the laptop screen the image on both screens will move a couple of inches.
Solutions tried so far:
-Tried lowering resolution of the screens on the client side. Issue still happened.
-Checked the driver driver. Going through Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings, under one of the tabs there was a check box for "auto scroll function". Tried with and without this checkmark with no change. Left it off, the way I found it.
-In the RDP software, checked the "Use all my monitors for the remote session" (It was off, but all screens seemed to be getting used). Scrolling still happened. Turned this off. Only only monitor got the connection, and no scrolling.
-Also tried changing the display config down a step in the RDP connection. Given the laptop screen size and no scrolling happened with that setup.
-Tried using only laptop screen. No Scrolling.
-Tried using only the external screen. No scrolling.
-Used the Lenovo software to check for driver updates. None found.
-Downloaded the latest driver from Lenovo. Driver from April this year. Updated the computer. Reboot. Scrolling still happens.
-Tried to install the latest Intel drivers for the video chipset. Get the message that it has not yet been approved for use by manufacturer.

It would be easiest if I just had a camera to take a picture of it, but, alas, I do not.
I have an Acer 22" monitor that I attach via mini display --> VGA to my 13" MBP, but for some reason it isn't aligning correctly. The external monitor is set up to the right of the laptop. The native resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050, which is displaying correctly, but the entire image isn't showing up on the screen. I moved the horizontal position all the way to the 100 mark, but there is just a 1.5-2" black line going down the right side of the monitor. Also, normally if you drag an app between the laptop monitor and the external monitor it is "seamless," but right now you have to drag a little further until it shifts onto the next monitor... if that makes sense. Essentially, the whole image on the external monitor is shifted to the left about 1.5-2". The monitor seems to be fine... when I make the resolution lower, the image fills the entire screen (it's just all out of proportion and hurts my eyes).
I have tried reconnecting all the connections and resetting all the settings, but nothing is working. It's still workable right now, but it's annoying as heck.

I have an HP Pavilion 17 e049wm Notebook PC, model: E0J75UA.Long story short my laptop no longer gives me an option to connect to the internet through my wireless router. It only gives me the option to connect through an Ethernet cable. If I click on the networks icon it says No connections are available. If I go to the network and sharing center and try to set up a network, it will never detect my router. The wifi icon reminds orange, despite airplane mode being off. If I type wireless in the search bar in the start menu, one option is to change wifi settings. From there it only gives me the option to add VPN connection.(?)Another option is to change wireless device settings yet it doesn't detect any. I tried doing a system restore to a save point where the internet was working,'didn't work. I know it's not my router as all other devices, phones, tablets,ps3 and other computers are working just fine. I did try though resting the router.

I am getting intermittently dropped wifi connection. It is a new/nearly new xps 12 convertible from the Dell outlet store a couple of months ago. I have installed all windows updates including win 8.1. My network adapter is an Intel Dual band wireless AC-7260 #2. I searched on the intel site using the auto driver function and it cannot find any new drivers there for it.
I have also set the wifi adapter to "maximum performance" whether on battery or plugged in and it happens anyway (even when plugged into AC).Is there anything I can do for this or does a technician need to replace the wifi card (or do I need to RMA the notebook)?

I have one of the Latitude D630 laptops with the bad Nvidia integrated graphics purchased in January of 2008. Does anyone have a solution for this problem other than giving Dell $400 to fix a two year old laptop that will probably just fail again? No one is responding to the Dell blog http://en.community.dell.com/dell-bl...t-details.aspx . Dell knew they had a problem when they sold me this laptop which is discouraging to say the least. So now what am I supposed to do? Dell was the only vendor I trusted. Has anyone had to deal with this problem and what did you do to fix it? I am stuck in nv4_disp.dll infinite loop hell...
Yes, the graphics chip is toast at this point. Please do not ask me to update the bios or instal latest drivers as this only prolongs the inevitable, complete failure. Is there anyone out there that upgrades these by sodering on a different chip or something?

I reinstalled Vista 64-bit Business on my laptop. And I've installed all of the drivers which are working, but my wifi drops out every 20-30 minutes. I've done some research and found this isn't uncommon...
so I installed the lastest Intel drivers, disabled all of the power saving features on my wifi card/DCP.
But, it still disconnects! What the heck!? I might have had this same issue in Windows 7, but I can't really remember. All I know is that when I tried to back it up using WHS, it would always fail.

I'm having an issue with my wifi connection, it keeps dropping without an apparent reason.
It's a Dell Inspiron 5748-10001.
I have updated the wireless drivers Dell [Wireless 1704 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver] to this version Network_Driver_D1DJJ_WN_6.30.223.181_A00, but it still doesn't seem to work.
I don't know if it's related but I can't seem to install [Dell Wireless 1705 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver] Network_Driver_HP06Y_WN_10.0.0.276_A00, the installation is always a failure.
