Dell XPS 13 :: Crashing - Hardware Failure When Computer Goes To Sleep

I bought my XPS 13 3 months ago and I immediately found out that there was a hardware failure when the computer goes to sleep. It refuses to reboot after I press the power button and instead I have to force shutdown before rebooting it. I disabled the sleep mode and it has worked fine ever since. However, recently I am experiencing it again. I think it's just that it went to sleep after I let it sit for some time, but I still want to resolve this issue once and for all.

I recently went to turn my computer on after putting it into hibernation, and was greeted with an error screen telling me one of my RST drives had failed. After hitting CTRL-I and going into the config for it, I was able to disable RST completely and get my computer to boot back up. However, the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" monitoring program now shows no RST drive, and I am not sure how to troubleshoot it further without potentially affecting my C: drive. The computer is also running noticeably slower, though I would guess that's because it no longer has the SSD available.
I have already run the pre-startup diagnostics (F12 at boot) and have found no errors. I would like to know if this is something that can be corrected on my own, or if I will have to request parts or service from Dell. For reference, the laptop is a 7720R.

A common issue, but here is what I know:
My 1420 with a Geforce 8400GS will not wake up from sleep. I know that it is the graphics cards fault, because everything else seems to be fine when I poen the lid.
I am using laptop2go 185.20 drivers.
Does anyone know how I can try to fix this, or what geforce 18x.xx drivers still wake up properly with an 8400 gs?
I am committed to the non-dell drivers, because Dell is horribly out of date, and the performance boost I get from the newer drivers is very worthwhile.

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 that unfortunately shuts down on its own or fails to respond when it goes to sleep mode. This doesn't happen every time it goes to sleep but it still happens quite frequently. When it shuts down on it's own, it displays a "Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly" message once it is turned back on. It very rarely displayed a Blue Screen of Death that mentioned something about drivers but this hasn't popped up in a while.
I've been in contact with a Dell representative for about a week now, having him call me every day to remote control my laptop and try something new. He updated all of the drivers he could find (I previously did this but he decided to go ahead and re-download them anyways), updated the BIOS (again, tried that already on my own), ran all sorts of diagnostic tools (the only one that he ran that I hadn't already run was the WinDbg X86 program), changed sleep settings (tried that on my own too), had me scan the entire computer for about 3 hours to check for hardware issues (It was one of the options under the F12 key when the computer first boots up and it came up clean), and yesterday he set up a new user account and had me use that for a day to see if the problems were linked to my profile (didn't even think about that one). It's actually caused the problem to occur more frequently to be quite honest. Today was especially bad, as the computer crashed 9 times and ended up deleting the newly created profile on its own in an attempt to repair itself.

I have a dell Inspiron N5110 which is just over a year old. I upgraded to windows 8 not too long ago and my laptop has been just fine until today. When I close the lid or do anything to put my computer to sleep, it freezes up. The power button light stays solid and it seems like the computer is stuck. The only way to get it to do anything is to hold the power button down. My bios is updated to A11 which is the latest version. I don't know what else to do. Seems like I've tried everything but I can't figure it out.

I would like very much for the USB ports (or at least one of them) to stay on when the computer is in sleep. I'm having the following issue with myVaio-Z550n:
On random occasions, when I set the computer to sleep or hibernate (they seem to trigger this problem equally), the computer screen will go black, the fan kicks into a steady overdrive and on/off button's green led remains solidly lit -as if the computer were still on.
The only way to fix the problem is to manually power down the computer by depressing the the on/off button.
It happened under Windows 7 RC and it is happening under Windows 7 32-bit home premium as well. I haven't used Vista for quite sometime so I don't know if is an OS-triggered issue.
Anecdotally, it seems to occur more often when I close the lid to put it into sleep, rather than do it manually through the start menu.
It also appears to be occuring with more regularity in recent days. Before it was like 10% of the time... now it is something like 30%.

I have owned a T440S since late 2013.
Relevant Details:
T440S
Model : 20AQCTO1WW
OS : Windows 7 professional (original installation by Lenovo)
Latest Drivers installed as of June 2014 - including HotKey and Power Management
HotKey ver : 8.30
Power Managment : 6.65.1
Since receiving this laptop, OSD birightness control has always failed to work, i.e. does not appear on the screen when using the Fn+F5/F6 key combination nor does it control actual screen brightness AFTER FIRST resuming from sleep mode.
Sequence of steps that demonstrates the above symptom:
1. OSD brightness works fine after reboot
2. Putting the machine to sleep (I do not use hibernate) for a duration longer than a few minutes
3. Open lid the first time, hit Fn to resume machine
4. Pressing Fn+F5/F6 key combo does not display the brightness slider nor does it control brightness
5. Closing the lid and opening it again, causes OSD brightness slider to flash briefly and is now fully functional using Fn+F5/F6 keys
Your tech department should easily be able to re-create this issue on any stock T440S/Win7pro machine, as I have seen others comment about this very issue across other T440/OS variants.

I've a dv7-4170us that's out of warranty and a dead battery. I cannot get the computer to wake from sleep mode.
I've removed the battery, the cmos battery, the hard drive, and the cd-rom drive. Nothing will wake this thing!
The wifi light is orange, the caps lock is flashing. The mute button is not lit. NUM lock doesn't have a light.
Nothing, not even a mouse, is plugged into the laptop.

Do Vaio Z Series laptop owners use their laptop as their main primary computer or a secondary computer? Do Vaio Z series owners also have a desktop pc as their primary computer and use their Vaio Z Series as a secondary computer? Or is your Vaio Z Series laptop your one and only computer that you always use? Is it comfortable using the 13 inch screen for long periods of time?
Reason i ask is some people have more then one computer and some people just have one.
I'm just wondering if the Vaio Z Series laptop is a good choice as a main computer since it's got good specs and it's nicely portable but will the 13 inch screen be ok to use for long periods even at the higher 1600 x 900 resolution?

I got it in November, sometimes when i go to ANY of my browsers to view pages with flash. The whole browser freezes and crashes, so i start it up again and go to the page, and crash again.. so i try to use another browser (i literally have chrome, Firefox, safari and IE) all of them do the same exact thing.. and once it crashes there's no way to get it back up unless you restart. It gets very annoying having to restart my laptop about 5 times a day. I've done everything, uninstalling flash player, reinstalling it, reinstalling browsers.. I've even reinstalled my OS because nothing else would work. I don't understand why this laptop has so many issues. Randomly freezes, crashes etc. Its basically brand new and i shouldn't have these issues. My old Compaq presario cq60-215dx NEVER ever did any of these thing this Studio laptop does. This laptop is about 400 dollars more than my Compaq.. Also, i dual booted Vista and Windows 7 and Vista is a hell of a lot faster, it boots up faster and never crashes.. It just seems as if Dell did something to this OS to make it a piece.. help?

Whenever I close the computer it will crash. Upon re-opening it I am greeted with the BIOS loading screen and the the message telling me my computer was not properly shut down.
I'm not really sure why this happens. If anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it ....

I have my 9400/E1705, when playing games for a while say sometimes 10min-1 hour it will lockup with garbulled sound from the speakers at full volume. Ive tried different video drivers and sound drivers and done a complete fresh install but the problem still exists.

When playing Bioshock my laptop turns it self off after 5min due to overheating.
I have not overclocked it in any way. I use the drivers from this forum, and have tried others, still the same resolut.
It works somewhat beter with the dell drivers. 7950 GTX.
When I feel on the back of the comp its not that hot.

i have owned this dell XPS M1730 for over a year now, and it has always seemed to have this weird problem with graphical pauses.... the setup is a core 2 extreme edition 2.8 GHz proc with "dual 8800GTX" graphics cards offered from dell. the rest is pretty standard but if needed i can just slap on the long and mostly useless dxdiag list now then, on to the problem. with certain games the game will play just fine at a high/good frame rate, but every so often the game will just freeze. sound will either not be effected, or also freeze with it, and naturally mouse movement I/O is also frozen. this usually lasts for about 2 seconds or so then everything resumes. originally i thought this was a graphical issue but one day i decided to look at the task manager after having it happen nearly every 30 seconds (although time and amount of pauses per time varies) the CPU usage would spike to 100 % from the normal 30 % or so. now originally i thought this was just the game having horrific coding issues but recently i got borderlands and it also has the same issue. i really am getting tired of the little "unknown nuances" of the 1730 and would like to fix these problems or know how to **** at dell tech support if possible.

Is anyone else having stability issues with the Covet?
How would I go about measuring heat on the CPU and GPU? I can't seem to find any utilities.
NTune crashes Vista 64 so that's out...
What I'm getting is normal fast operation for maybe an hour, and then fairly reliably the screens will all blank out for a second and then come back. Windows delivers a popup saying the NVidia drivers have stopped responding and then recovered.
Event logs show the message also: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding.
I got the Quad Core Covet, and the Quadro 3700. I have it set in the High Performance power mode, plugged in to the wall on the (extremely large) factory charger. The system will run all day if I'm not using Maya.
Also ever since receiving this I have been getting a security audit failure:

I have a Motorola BT stereo headset....it connects fine, but shortly after streaming audio, whether Hulu, Music or Gaming....
maybe after 3 minutes, the entire BT system crashes, icon disappears and sound returns to notebook speakers. The only way to get BT back is a COLD boot.
I've tried cleaning removing and reinstalling all BT drivers to the same result.
Any clues anyone? I've read about some Win7 'quirk' w/ Bluetooth but don't know much about it ....

I've got a XPS 15 L521x that was running Windows 7 for weeks with out incident. I decided I'd like to try Windows 8. I installed (after changing Sata to AHCI) without incident. After the install completes I reboot and it crashes. The OS goes to "attempting repairs". I can run a "refresh" of the OS and it will fix the issue and then crash again after a reboot.

My 2013 Inspiron tended to come out of hibernation either quite slowly , taking 20 to 30 seconds to get to the log-in screen, or crash altogether (not every time, but every 2 or 3 wake-ups) which required a hardware reboot.. After doing some research, I found some information. It appears there may be some conflict between BIOS settings and Windows (8.1 in my case).
I checked BIOS settings and the only thing I found was that Intel's Rapid Start Technology was enabled. So I turned it off and rebooted. Turns out, the Rapid Start actually delayed the boot process: my computer boots MUCH faster now (about half the time from before) in the full boot process, it comes out of hibernation almost instantaneously (as I would expect from a system with i7 processor, 16 GB Ram and SSD) and it has not yet crashed when coming out hibernation.

I've had my inspiron 14z for about 2 months now. From the start I've had issues with the computer crashing (blue screen). It started happening about every hour, and has now increased to about every 20 minutes. If left it will be on an- on- crash- restart loop for eternity every 20 minutes. I have tried updating drivers, I have done diagnostics at startup, not working.

i have a late model hp laptop which i have owned for a little over a year, for majority of time i have not had any problems and it has worked fine.
recently it has been crashing on me, what happens is the cpu slowly powers down and a blue screen appears saying something along the lines of "crash dump in xx seconds", then it auto-restarts and before it gets to the windows screen it says "Non system file or disk, insert disk and press any key".
to get around this i have been pressing f10 on start up and restoring all settings to default and then the comp slowly but surely loads up again.
im having battery problems aswell and have found that the laptop overheats when i run it on normal or high performance mode therefore i always run it on powersaver (and even then it sometimes gets really hot),

I bought my laptop around a year and a half ago, I've been trying to fix this problem for months now. While playing pretty much all video games, whether through Steam, CD or through downloading, at random times while playing my computer will freeze, the sound will start to bug out and there is nothing I can do but manually shut down my computer. My warranty has expired and I am not sure what to do. I've done some reading about under-clocking my CPU and I have no interest in doing that. I keep my drivers and everything up to date so I'm pretty damn sure that this is not a software problem. I want to avoid replacing my motherboard and I will only do so if there is no other option. I am thinking of replacing my hard drive with an SSD

I have a new DV8T and I'm having a problem with the MediaSmart MVP crashing after i start the program. I have searched here and other sites for a couple of days trying to find a fix and haven't. Here is what it is doing...
It will crash within a minute of the program loading, it doesn't matter if it is in music, video or picture section. It has done this from the very start. It also does this from a clean install of Windows 7. I can't figure out what is causing it to crash all the time.

Not long had this laptop and it can happen once every couple of days then not happen for a week or so.
The screen will go blue there is a heap of text and it locks up and crashes. The text is not on screen long enough to see what the fault is.
