Last week I ordered a XPS laptop from Dell with 4gb Ram. I had read that the full 4gb would not be available as the sipplied Vista would only be 32bit ?
When I was on the Dell site configuring my purchase it wouldn't allow me to upgrade to the 64bit Vista although the option was there.
When I selected the 64bit option I just kept getting a box saying there were compatibility issues with the Resource DVD .....
I have always ran 32bit operating systems and i am having some blue screen issues with the win7 beta so i was thinking of going back to vista but thinking of the 64 bit version. What will happen with programs that are 32bit? I use photoshop cs4 daily as well as some other cs4 suite apps (illustrator, indesign, dreamweaver) as well as programs like VLC, winamp, firefox, MS office, and some games as old as quake 3 and new games.
My question is will they work and what advantages and disadvantages do i gain from vista64 over vista32? and do i need to get a whole new set of drivers as well for my M1530?
I'm currently thinking about installing windows 7 64bit instead of vista 32bit, which I am running atm.
Partly to get use of all 4gb and partly cause I've heard good stuff about windows 7, at least compared to vista, which is utter *beeep*.
My questions is now - where do I find compatible drivers for windows 7 64 bit.
My laptop is as the thread name reveals a Dell xps m1530.
I just upgraded the memory in my XPS M1330 to 4GB, so if I choose to I can now go from 32bit to 64bit Vista. It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? And one last thing, is there really a big difference in performance going from 32bit to 64bit? I don't do anything very intensive with it, but if it makes everything seen snappier than.......

I have a hp with 32bit vista ult. Can I upgrade to 64bit with an hp oem disk with no problem? I work for dell and we upgrade people everyday. But I never upgraded anyone to 64 from 32bit.

I modded it for nvidia gf 9300m gs and tested on vaio vgn-cs with win vista 32bit but should be compatible with some of the newer VAIO models.
-h264 hardware GPU-decoding is supporing now (It utilizes only a few percent of the CPU)
Instalation:
1. If you already have an existing nVidia driver installed, uninstall it with its Uninstaller, then use Driver Sweeper to remove any remaining files/registry keys and reboot before you attempt to install this driver.
2. Overwrite the existing nv_disp.inf in 19040_win7x32.exe with my moddified v190.40 INF file.

why is my installation of vista freezing on the last step? its either freezing or taking a very long time. its been at the last step for about 20 minutes so far. It did this last time i tried to do a clean install with a dell disc without knowing about installing vista on hp machine with a dell disc. but now i have used vlite and made a anytime upgrade disc and took out the tell stuff according to this tut. the green progress bar isn't moving either. at the bottom of the screen where it says the upgrade may take several hours to complete, my screen doesn't have that.

I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.

I have a new XPS laptop and wish to sell on my old Inspiron laptop, however I've lost all my restore disks and OS disk for it that came with it. What I do have is my OS disk and driver disks that came with my new XPS laptop.
I know I'm not able to use the driver disks on my Inspiron because it's different hardware, but do we think the OS disk will install Vista on my Inspiron?
Both have their own Vista licences stuck to the bottom of the laptop and both are licenced for Vista Home Premium, so as far as I can make out this would be lawful.
So would the OS disk work? I can't see any reason why not and suspect that the OS disk doesn't include any specific drivers or anything. The only thing I noticed is that the installation doesn't prompt for a key, so I was concerned about that part.
I took Vista off about two months ago and would love to put it back on but Dell still has not updated their video card drivers and I am told thats what has to happen to make Vista compatible with Dells D/Dock. Does anyone have the D/Dock working with Vista or have any goo ideas how I could get he D/Dock to work with Vista?

My question being, would it be faster to have x64 bit Vista on my computer over the x32 I have right now for everyday applications and stability? I web browse, do some audio editing, listen to music, manage cameras and other devices, and download and watch TV shows etc. Would I notice a speed improvement over x32 besides the obvious "fresh install" feeling? I also should mention that I do some moderate gaming on the computer, CS:Source and BF2 mainly.

Alright, my XPS M1530 which I got 1.5 years ago came with Vista Home Premium 32bit. I want to install 64 bit and I only recently found out that Dell will send you out a 64 bit disc at no cost if you have the 32 bit version of the same edition.
I asked them but since my warranty is over they can't help me.
I've looked for torrents but I can't find any for a 64 bit Dell OEM Vista Home Premium iso. All I can find are 32 bit ones..
