HP Audio :: Pavilion E040us / No Sound Through HDMI To TV
Jun 2, 2014
When I first used the laptop sound would sometimes come through the HDMI to the TV. Now it never does. When I look at playback devices there is no HDMI playback, but only "Speaker/HP". I have gone into the DTS audio panel, which also only lists one playback device. I have also right clicked in playback devices to show all disabled or disconnected devices and there aren't any others.
Laptop speakers or speakers plugged into the jack work fine. The video on the HDMI connection also works fine.
So far I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and also uninstalled the realtek audio driver and installed the latest driver from HP's website.
None of this has caused sound to work through the HDMI or even an HDMI playback device to appear.
I recently noticed my Pavilion dv7 entertainment notebook won't play sound through the tv anymore. The picture is on the tv but sound is running through the laptop speakers? I never had a problem with this until now. When i open up the sound options, the ATI HDMI output says it's not connected and so it wont let me select it, but it is connected?
When I connect my laptop to my tv the sound does no come out the tv, but remains coming out the pc speakers. it is not a cable issue as my other hp laptop works fine. i can't find a setting to change it to hdmi audio output.
HP spectre G4X24PA#ABG, bought a few days ago, links in via HDMI cable to Sony HD TV - picture fine but no sound.. tried Control Panel, Sound etc but no HDMI sound to click and make say default?? IDT High Definition Audio Codec listed but no connect to HDMI - suspect drivers not up-to-date?? But HP assistant says all is up to date?? Have looked on web - many answers for Win XP/Vista etc but I am running WIN 8.1- can always connect external speakers or use Y-connector but I think this single HDMI cable SHOULD work?
I have the Envy 15 which came pre-installed with Win8. When the 8.1 update came out I installed and now can't get any audio when connecting via HDMI to my TV although image is there.
I've ensured all the drivers are updated AFAIK, but in the Device Manager I get the highlighted, obviously as above, the cable is plugged in.
All was working fine prior to the update and I have also used 4 different cables, which are all fine as I also have an old Compaq laptop which is still running Win8 allows audio via HDMI.
The sound on my HP Pavilion G6-1a19wm is not working. Sound "does" work when using the audio jack with external speakers. I have tried uninstalling the driver, updating the driver, microsoft fix-it, and troublshooting steps. audio device shows in device manager and is supposedly working properly, mute is "not' enabled. visually all audio related things suggest that the audio is fine and troubleshooting finds no problems..
I have an HP Pavillion g6 and the sound is not working at all. I tried troubleshooting the audio playback and then it started working. Then i realized only the system sounds started working.
When i play a video or any audio on my browser (Google Chrome and Internet Explorer) it does not work, but when i play a video/audio downloaded onto the pc, it works. Why is that?
I checked all my browser settings aswell and nothing is wrong.

My laptop has no sound at all - built in speakers, earbuds, not even when connected to my TV using the HDMI port (which is a separate driver).
2 weeks ago all sound was working. I was watching (and listening) youtube videos using my earbuds. I stopped a video and left my laptop unused until the next day. There were no installs or updates applied that I am aware of. The next day I closed Youtube and played words with friends and there was no sound. I restarted the laptop and still no sound.
I have read and worked through many processes and fixes found on this and other forums but have been unable to get sound working. I also attempted to restore my laptop back to prior to this issie but my restore points fail (corrupted).
Drivers: Both drivers are present and state they are working properly - they are current versions ATI high definition Audio Device Date 5/6/2010 Ver 7.11.0.7706 IDT High Definition Audio Codec Date 6/17/2010 Ver 6.10.6289.0
I have uninstalled (checked delete the driver software for this device) and reinstalled multiple times. I have uninstalled, shutdown, removed power and battery, held power button for 30 seconds, then repowered and let the drivers reinstall (they automatically installed upon boot I was not able to run the sp50642.exe that I downloaded).
I also used the HP Recovery tool and reinstalled the drivers to factory default
I have run Microsofts problem finder and it reports all is working. I have verified there are no settings muted or disabled. When I test the speakers from"Sound and Headphones" Properties, I get "Failed to play test tone".
FYI - I have not done an update to the BIOS but I checked and mine is the updated version F.29 but the date is 14 days older then the downloadable SP55299 version.
I've been having some problems hooking up my girlfriend's dv5 to our TV. It no longer plays audio over the HDMI connection.
I mostly use VLC player to play HD content and at first it worked, with some tweaking. I had to disable and enable the audio track in VLC and then it would play through the TV. Now, it no longer works. In the audio control panel, or whatever its called (Vista), it says the HDMI device is enabled, but nothing seems to be using it.
I was watching something online when the sound became distorted (has happened before) so turned off G6 laptop and restatred worked well for 20 minutes and then it went all distorted again. Turned it off again and started it up again however this time the sound completely vanished. Tried iTunes, internet, and a movie on laptop and nothing is working anymore. Have checked all the easy sound things making sure I didn't turn it off but nope it all says device is working.
Ok, I havent had sound on my HP for 8 months. I have done all the troubleshooting I can and I really need to have sound on this PC. I have been working on this all week. Do I need to do a factory restore?? Model XY980UA#ABA, HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook.
We have an HP Pavilion g6 with Windows 7 program. Until yesterday it was working fine. But now we do not have any sound from it except when playing CDs or media music. Have tried and checked several setting etc. but cannot correct this problem. Laptop sound test is ok with and w/out headphones or external but not when trying to listen or hear anything when connected to the internet.
I've recently installed windows 8.1 and now have no sound. The speaker icon in the bottom right corner has a small red x on it, when i have the mouse over it, it says 'no audio output device is installed'. I found that updating the driver in sounds via the at control panel but this the said:
'Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it
IDT HD Audio CODEC
A device attached to the system is not functioning'...
I can't set my sound default. I recently got my computer updated and a few hours later, my sound stopped working, then my videos, too. I reinstalled my computer, but when it got to the point where you set sound defult, it wouldn't work. The sections "Configure" and "Properties" worked, but "Set Default" wouldn't. I am so frustrated because I need sound and video to do a lot of things on my computer.
My product name is: Windows 8 HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 PC
Updated pc to Windows 8.1 today and now have no sound at all and the pc says no headphones or speakers are plugged in and detection finds no problem and also the AMD 'properties' say sevice is working properly (I have no back drivers to revert back to liste)
HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Product number C6M11EA#ABU driver version 8.0.0.8807
I have an older HP Pavilion dv 9000, with Windows 7. I was attempting to watch a video and noticed that the sound was muted. So, initially, I tried to turn it up, but it seemed locked. It had never done that before, so after several failed attempts, the mute sign disappeared and now it's just a red x, and when I go in to check it, it tells me that there is no sound hardware installed. I tried to install a new driver from your website but it is still not working.
Product Name is HP Pavilion 15 Notebook, Windows 8, no error messages, I did not make any change/s in the system. the problem now is that i cant hear any sound from the system
i'm the owner of a sleekbook HP Pavilion 15-b040sl. The OS is Windows 8.A few days ago i found a problem about the sound: the speaker didn't emit sound; all video or mp3 starts without sound.I decided to disinstall the driver of the sound. There were 3 driver; I found just 1, the others generated error during the installation.I miss two driver, i can't find them:
I'm using a HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC running on Windows 8 64bit. About a week ago, my sound is randomly disappearing and I have to restart my laptop each time. Then, the sound works like normal, but when I don't use my laptop for some time (while it is still on), and I start a movie or something, the sound doesn't work. When I click the sound bar on the bottem-right corner, there's no green bar indicating sound.I've tried reinstalling sound drivers and reselecting a standard sound device, but nothing seems to work.
I have an HP Pavilion dm4 that I bought last summer, but I'm not sure which model #s specifically comes after that.
I just updated my HP BIOS and now I am not getting any sound from the speakers or through headphones, this has happened before though I admittedly cannot remember what the solution was.
