HP/Compaq :: Does Sell Any 15" Notebooks With Mid Range Gpu's
Jan 16, 2009
I'm in the process of looking for a 15" notebook with an Nvidia 9600 gt (or ATI equivalent gpu). Up till now, I have always bought Dell notebooks mainly for their overseas business warranties. Since Dell is only offering the XPS 1530 with an outdated 8600gt gpu, I thought I would check in this forum to inquire whether Hp offers a comparable notebook with a newer mid sized gpu? (I'm interested in having the mid sized gpu mainly for simulation gaming for those overnight out of town business trips.)
Will HP offer a new series of Notebooks this year? Specifically 17 inch? I am assuming the 18 inch HDX and 16 inch HDX will be just getting spec upgrades.
my notebook has the optiarc 5500S BD Rom and I've only had it for a couple days. I've tried a few blu rays using quickplay but the playback is a little stuttery, especially when skipping from scene to scene. Overall, playback is fairly smooth but my eyes are really picky and I can tell it's not as smooth and fluid as it would be if I were to watch it on my ps3.
I'm wondering if PowerDVD (blu ray version) would be smoother. What are your experiences with blu ray on your notebooks and what software do you use?
The few programs that I know that detect fans won't even show a fan on my laptop, nor does it show on my Friend's G60 (or whatever the silver one is, I don't remember it exactly).
my dv6700 has it and i use it i dont know how many times with my SDTV. Ofcourse there is HDMI, but for SDTVs without HDMI, s-video was a good solution. Why did hp stop putting it on the notebooks?
I just noticed that the DV4t, 6t, and 7t notebooks all look to have been upgraded/updated to include DDR3 along with the Windows 7 release. Pretty nice for the power conscious I’d think. 1.5v RAM instead of 1.8v should match up well with a “P” series chip and a LED backlit screen... not to mention a bit of a speed boost. Not the newest stuff coming, but a nice update just the same for the Intel 4 Series chipset.

It was a fantastic laptop when I first got it and it still is. It's worked perfectly for me during its time.
I did have the heatsink replaced a few times as well as the motherboard due to overheating and not knowing exactly what the problem was, so it was more just a precautionary measure.
Eventually I found out that it was just due to the thermal paste needing replacement to lower the temps. So actually I haven't had any hardware problems at all.
Recently though I was tempted to buy the Asus G51VX-RX05 due to its cheap price tag and its slick look and ended up buying one. The hardware improvements that affect performance include:
i have dell studio 17 nb1735 in the quickset it has the option for backlit keyboard and its all turned on but no backlit lights come on at all how do i know if i actually have this on my laptop or if it simply is not working?
I have a business laptop (Precision M4400), how do I know if my warranty is transferable or not? If it is, what is the process of transferring the ownership to someone else?
I have been trying to determine the highest SAFE temperature for my SONY VAIO VGN-N105N. It seems that should be a fairly easy question to answer, but darned if I can find anything on it.
Even as I am typing this it takes like 4 seconds for the words to appear on the screen!
I have an acer 8930g which is one of the better models (904g50bwn) it has a quad core q9000 proecessor 2ghz 6mb l2 cache and 4gb ram, i installed a 2nd 500gb hd and have 1000gb in total.
I have installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (original copy) and it came with vista hp 32 bit
I am at the moment only running firefox with only about 18 tabs (Normally have around 50) memory usage is about 65% but cpu is 100% most of the time when using firefox.
Normal use cpu usage is 20-30%!
I spent £1200 on this laptop having never spent more than £650, the attraction was the blu ray player and big screen along with good spec. It is performing worse than my old toshiba p300!
I expected a big difference in performance but I am just having these issues.
Is the issue that I am using windows 7 or do you think my machine could be faulty? It does NOT get hot when using it like my toshiba did but it just gets sluggish very often. Also when using task manager it says firefox using 30% cpu usage and no other processes using anything yet it says 100% - doesnt add up?! Does anyone know what that means?
I have an Aspire V5-552P and ever since a few months ago its wifi range has been really small. It has to be right next to a router for it to connect when it didn't have this problem before. All of my other devices can connect from a distance just fine so I know it is not a problem with the router. Is my wireless adapter faulty?
I tried calibrating my profile so that it'd look a little better but does anyone know whether there are better programs to do this as opposed to by eye? (And are there software other than Apple's own?)
2 Those with the 9CC2 screen - is it just me or has the brightness range narrowed a lot? It seems like at the lowest brightness setting it's still damn bright (and not good for the battery), and Leopard didn't seem to have the same problem.
Intel provide a Tcase value:  "The normal processor temperature will depend on the chassis type, the hardware involved and the location of the computer, and it usually is lower than the Tcase."  Is there a place to find the "normal processor temperature" that Lenovo recommends for X Series laptops with various Intel CPUs operating at standard temperature (20 degrees Celcius)?  Here is an answer for the W Series.  Is it the same as for the X Series?
I have a Thinkpad T410 model 2518. I think it may be having fan issues. From time to time the machine will just shut off. It has a brand new battery so I know that’s not the issue.  While it often runs in the 60’s for temp for CPU and Motherboard it sometimes gets up to 81 – 91 for the CPU and 81 – 83 for the motherboard. What the normal temp range is for this computer? Would 81 and above be considered a hot temp that could lead to these computer shut downs ....
Speakers in the laptop play music fine. When I use the headphone jack the music in my headphones has very little dynamic range. The music sounds squashed. The loud parts are limited and the soft parts are raised to the point that I can hear the background noise in the recording. I have never had this problem on any other PC.
I am listening to iTunes, Soundforge and any other program that has audio.
Is it possible to sell a dell i bought online from dell.com on ebay? Its brand new i didn't receive it yet. I dont need it anymore because my brother wanted something else for his birthday, but i don't want to refund it. Is it possible to sell it on ebay? Would the service tag be affected?
I been working part time in computer service for 2 years now. Most notebook that come in are Dells, while Dell owns only 30% of Ukrainian laptop market. I have seen Dells that literally fall apart while under 3 years of usage. Most low to middle price boxes seem to be build from cheap plastic and 2nd grade parts.
Am I mistaken, is it a local phenomenon? What are your opinions of Dell notebooks?
I'm having to buy a new laptop soon - looking at the XPS - but I don't know when this premium XPS customer service care will subside (which I expect to happen when Dell releases their new solution to getting consumers)
since most of the e series amd precision m series have been out for over a year does anyone sense a new refresh coming its usually anually they do it so ...
