HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Ze5400- To Speed Up My Laptop
Sep 17, 2009Just needing to speed up my laptop.
View 4 RepliesJust needing to speed up my laptop.
View 4 RepliesI have a HP DV9700 laptop that I bought about 1 and half year ago. The RAMS need to be replaced, and what's the maximum RAM speed (The Mhz, not the amount of GB) can I use in this laptop?
The old one was PC5300 667 Mhz 2 x 2GB RAM
Can I use PC6400 RAM? because It's more easily available than the old PC5300.
I just reinstall windows xp pro on my dell inspiron 9200 and it show that I only useing 600MHZ CPU speed eventhough I have 2GHZ...
I used to change it back to 2GHZ nad I forgot how to do it..
My laptop G505 59379534 has become horribly slow. In fact it is so right from beginning when I purchased six months back. Around 50 GB of data consisting of audio, video files are stored in it. It takes atleast 2 to 3 minutes to open even a small file of 5 Mb size. Also I have installed all latest drivers from AMD site. Also I am using Kapersky internet security 2014 and it is up to date. No virus or spyware is detected when I run full scan. Can I improve it's speed and if so how.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop that all of the sudden goes into hibernation on me. When it restarts it has error message indicating that the computer should be plugged in -but it is always plugged in. I don't use it on the battery except on rare occassion.
The blue charge light is on at times, not at other times, sometimes blinking. I don't see any pattern in the problem.
I've installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop HP Pavilion G6 2241sa. Everything is perfect, I downloaded all drivers, internet works fine BUT I've noticed that the speed of my broadband after few minutes goes down by 80%. My broadband speed is 30meg down/30 megs up. Download speed reduces to 2-3megs but upload speed remains the same...Â
Â
My network card (shown in device manager) is Qualcom Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter. When I uninstall it, Windows automatically detects it and installs it back. Internet speed returns to normal but after few minutes or maybe 10-12 minutes speed again goes down, up speed is unchanged... I deleted it 10 times, all the same, tried to reinstall all ralink drivers found for Win 8 or Win8.1, but Windows says that I have the perfect driver and doesn't install anything else. I removed antivirus just in case, doesn't work. I checked the speed on other computer - no issues there, but on my laptop it persists. On Windows 7 i didn't have this problem, it started after putting Win 8.1.
Laptop is on and plugged into the docking station which is "powered". Â Connection to monitor / keyboard and mouse is fine, however I'm surprised to see a lower power - plug is soon message. Â Isn't docking station supposed to provide power to the laptop?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI've got an HP Pavilion g6-2260sh notebook with Windows 8.1 Pro operating system. My problem is that the internet download speed had fallen from 80 Mbits to 3-4 Mbits. The upload speed stayed the same as before, 25 Mbits. My notebook is connected to a router with another notebook and a PC. Those 2 computers have excellent internet speeds. I've reinstalled the operating system, but the issue still persists. After the reinstallation, the speed was fine for maybe an hour and then it dropped to 3-4. I only installed drivers from the hp driver finder, nothing else. I've tried the connection with cable and wi-fi with the same results. The device manager shows 1 Unknown device and 1 missing driver for Ralink_RT3290_Bluetooth_01
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a pretty basic DV4t for my daughter for Christmas. Did a fresh Vista 32 install and everything is working nicely as advertised. However, when I check through CPU-Z (v1.49) it only indicates a down clock to 1595Mhz. The Vista CPU meter gadget though shows one processor at or near 0 at idle with the second at about 28%. I also have a DV2700tv in the house, also with a fresh Vista install, and it down clocks to 800Mhz.
CTO Spec’s are:
DV4t, P7350, 4GB ram, 160GB HD, Webcam, 802.11n w/Bluetooth, Lightscribe,12 Cell, BIOS F.24 (factory).
Unlike AMD systems, my understanding is that there is no driver required like there is for AMD Cool-n Quiet and that the speed steps are initiated between the BIOS and the OS with the correct chip-set drivers installed. My thoughts are that either:
(1) There is a problem with the BIOS F.24
(2) There is a problem with CPU-Z and this config
(3) The is a problem with the processor
(4) Or the P7350 doesn’t down clock like the T8100 that is in the DV2700tv
I re-installed the chipset drivers just to make sure all was correct. Device manager is clear and no problems there. I checked Intel and the P7350 supports "Enhanced Speedsteps" and it at least is down clocking from 2Ghz to 1595Mhz. I’ve also searched the forums and no luck there either.
I just found out about ReadyBoost. I have a 2 gig that it can use.. Has anyone tried this.. does it do more than just prefetch?
Again, I am reading a LOT of great things about using the exFat file system on your Flash drives with ReadyBoost.. anyone tried this?
You see, my thinking is I have a CQ61 with 2 gigs of ram and on board video with 128 ram shared up to 1 gig. Windows needs a gig and the games need a gig. At some point memory should get sluggish and effect either windows performance, the running game, or both.
I am trying to minimize the processes and services windows runs, and leave more available Ram for the games to make them run as best possible. The ReadyBoost thing is just one trick I am trying to do this as well as disabling tons of unwanted processes and services using tools like Autoruns by Sysinternals, Smart Utility by TheWindowsClub and IoBit's GameBooster.
(I do plan on getting more ram when I can afford it but this is just a temp measure)
Also your thoughts.. isn't a USB Flash drive faster than your hard drive? if so, why not use one for your page file? If that works.. wouldn't that be better to help out those times when you run low on ram?
Also, what do you think of using a ram drive with a USB drive to simulate extra ram in general? (Like with Ramdisk)
if you could only spec up one (or two but not all) of the above, which would you chose?
A higher/faster processor, more ram, or a faster (rpm) or even dual HD's. I'm just trying to get an idea of what's really the most important.
is there any easy way to change fan speed on my dv9740us by via software? i usually here the fan operating but it doesnt seem to be doin so at mex speed even on max cpu/gpu load
at present im using rivatuner to ic my gpu and rmclock to undervolt my cpu could i possibly use these programs to control my fan? if not then are there any programs that would allow me to do this?
The few programs that I know that detect fans won't even show a fan on my laptop, nor does it show on my Friend's G60 (or whatever the silver one is, I don't remember it exactly).
Mines isn't broken or anything,
my dv7 fan, increases its speed after coming from sleep mode...
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis notebook runs fans as soon as you start it, and it runs faster 5 minutes later even if it stays idle. The noise is too much. I don't care about performance, I just want it to run at minimum fan speed. I just need to be sure it won't melt. I don't see a setting in BIOS. What can I do? If I open it up and unplug the fans, will it melt or burn to destruction? Or how can I but a notebook cooler tray-thingy when the seller doesn't allow me to try and listen to the sound the thing makes?

I've put an extra HD in a caddy delivered by newmodeus (converting SATA disk to the "PATA" connector in the DVD-bay in my 6510b - the harddrive is only able to read at 15 mb/s compared to the 100 MB/s when placed in the harddrive-bay (SATA).
Does anyone know if this is normal? is the the HP-connector or the chip in the caddy that is the bottleneck.... Any workarounds to improve the speed?
Ive tested both an intel x25M 80 gb and a Hitachi 7200 rpm 200GB in the caddy with the same slow performance...
Today I got my HP EliteBook 2530p in "FU432EA" configuration. It was important for me to have an optical drive, so i chose the configuration with the 120 GB 1,8" HDD.
The 2530p looks great so far and performs pretty well... If there weren't the extremely annoying noises coming from the notebook.
The HDD with its 5400 rpm (it's a Samsung HS122JF, very slow btw, not really faster than 4200 rpm drives) makes a clearly audible, very high frequency noise and turns on/off every 30-60 seconds resulting in clicking sounds. I can live with that for the moment, because I'll upgrade to some SSD in the near future.
But the second annoyance is the fan inside the laptop. Even when idling in windows with temps below 50 °C the fan turns on every few moments. Unfortunately I haven't been able to control the system fan or even read the actual speed. I tried Notebook Hardware Control, SpeedFan and HWMon, but neither of them reported me anything about the fan. I tried undervolting the CPU with RMClock (which doesn't really support the new Penryn CPUs) and got a few degrees less, but this wasn't enough to keep the fan quiet. In the BIOS there are no options regarding the fan, only some "keep fan always running on AC power", which I disabled.
I have a DV6-2170us. I would like to know the easiest/cheapest way to maximize my file transfers over my home network. The house is wired with a gigabit ethernet infrastructure, but the HP only has 100Mbs controller. I would like to get best speed possible for large media file transfers/backups.
My questions are:Can I add gigabit ethernet to the laptop somehow?Would it be easier to just add an eSATA card to my media server desktop PC?Should I just replace my 802.11g with a 802.11n router?
HP HDX16 with P7350. In CPU-Z I see core speed 1595.8 I'm observing and it changes to 1595.9 and then 1596.0 and then 1596.1 and then shoots up to 1995.0 - I have never seen it reach 2.0 and never go down below 1595. When processor speed changes I can here problems with sound while listening to music.
Another thing is the Bus speed, which is fixed at 266.0mhx, isn't it supposed to be 1066?
see attached screen.
I have a dv6t Quad ed with core i7 820QM processor. Is it possible to undervolt the processor or run it at lower speeds to save battery?

The laptop won't power on. Â I've tried it with and without the battery. Â I've tried it with just the power cord. Â The light near the power cord lights up. Â When I press the power button it flashes once there and on the CapsLock key, then goes dark. Â I've tried removing the battery and power cord, holding down the power button for a minute, then plugging in the power cord. Â Same result.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy hp pavilion touchsmart 14 sleekbook was acting funny so I decided it was time to reset it back to factory settings. I didn't realize it would take so long. I use my computer for work and I've got about 30 minutes before I have to leave. Is it safe to unplug the computer while in reset mode? The drive to work is ~40 minutes then it'll be put back on power.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverytime I go onto the internet, try to download something, try to open a new tab my Laptop will freeze, and usually it will not let me open the task manager when I press CTRL + ALT + DEL. I have run virus scans with Norton (I am still in my free 90 day trial) and no threats have been found, I have done disc defragmenter, I have scanned the computer for errors, I have performed disc clean ups and why it is still freezing. I have also changed my Internet browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox and I still seem to have the same problems.why it keeps freezing.

Symptoms are that with a battery installed, the laptop does not always progress on start-up beyond the initial HP screen, which can be fuzzy at the top.  A solution is then to remove the battery and restart on mains, which is fine, but not convenient to always only rely  just on mains power. conducting battery test indicates requires calibration

View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a pavilion g7 laptop about 2 years ago. Just recently I wanted to reimage the laptop due a virus and other issues. When starting the reimage (restore to factory settings) process, the system initially appears to be running the restore but eventually it will stop and hang causing me to reboot. Logging on and going to the D drive and running the executable to restore the system it states that the drive is corupt.
Â
How do I quest from HPÂ an image or disc with Windows 8 so that I can restore my laptop to factory new.
